  • Patent number: 7461573
Abstract: The described actuation device comprises a casing, intended for the attachment to the handlebar of the bicycle, a cable-winding bobbin, angularly mobile in the casing about a main axis of the device, a first driving mechanism, acting on the bobbin to rotate it in a first angular direction, a second driving mechanism, acting on the bobbin to rotate it in a second angular direction opposite the first, as well as indexer assembly for removably holding the bobbin in predetermined angular positions. In accordance with the invention, the indexer assembly comprise first countering means, to counter the rotation of the bobbin in the first direction, and second countering means, distinct from the first countering means, to counter the rotation of the bobbin in the second direction. Asymmetric operation is thus obtained which allows active actuation to be set both for upward gearshifting and for downward gearshifting.

  • Patent number: 7444901
Abstract: A transmission case is provided with a housing enclosing a clutch and/or torque converter connected to an engine, and a shifting mechanism case enclosing a shifting mechanism in an oil-tight state that is connected to the housing. A focus for stress resulting from an impact load acting on the transmission case is formed as a frangible portion in the housing. Thus, damage to the transmission from an excessive load is limited to the housing, and by absorbing the impact from that damage, damage to the shifting mechanism case is prevented and oil leakage from the transmission case is avoided.

  • Patent number: 7428949
Abstract: The invention describes an arrangement of lubricating grease inside the housing of a gear unit with rotatable components, particularly the gear unit of a jack. It also describes a grease pouch for receiving lubricating grease and a method for lubricating the gear unit with lubricating grease. Since the gear units are often not transported in their installed position, oil that has separated from the lubricating grease may leak from any gearbox openings. Thus, one of the objects of the invention was to provide an arrangement of lubricating grease in the housing of a gear unit, which on the one hand provides lubrication of the gear unit so that it is ready for operation in its delivery condition and on the other hand effectively prevents the oil separated from the lubricating grease from leaking prior to initial startup. This object is attained by enclosing the lubricating grease within at least one grease pouch prior to initial startup of the gear unit.

  • Patent number: 7418457
Abstract: Methods, systems, and data structures for communicating object metadata are provided. A generic metadata container is presented that allows object metadata to be described in an extensible manner using protocol-neutral and platform-independent methodologies. A metadata scope refers to a dynamic universe of targets to which the included metadata statements correspond. Metadata properties provide a mechanism to describe the metadata itself, and metadata security can be used to ensure authentic metadata is sent and received. Mechanisms are also provided to allow refinement and replacement of metadata statements. Communication of metadata is expedited using hash digests to confirm metadata versions, and by piggybacking policy metadata requests and responses on other substantive data communication messages, thereby dynamically altering future communications.
