  • Patent number: 4949629
Abstract: An oven and method for cooking solid foods. The oven comprises an elongated housing divided into tandem cooking zones each with separate cooking and heating chambers. Food products are carried on a vapor pervious conveyor through the cooking chambers as a distinct cooking process vapor is recirculated in each zone at different rates between the heating and cooking chambers. In one zone, the process vapor is circulated generally laterally of the conveyor over the food in a turbulent mode and then recirculated for reheating in a path parallel to the conveyor.

  • Patent number: 4945578
Abstract: A flush control device for use in a toilet tank of the type containing a standpipe and a flap valve pivotally mounted on the standpipe for closing an outlet in the bottom of the tank includes a cylindrical sleeve for slidable mounting on the standpipe and a bulbous float at the bottom of the sleeve. The float is defined by an upwardly opening first cup integral with the bottom end of the sleeve, and an inverted second cup slidably mounted on the sleeve, so that the buoyancy of the device can be changed. Thus, the water level at which the flap valve closes, and consequently the quantity of water discharged through the outlet can be controlled.

  • Patent number: 4944425
Abstract: A fuel cap where a valve body held to a valve support plate for performing pressure adjustment is arranged in a cap body installed to a filler neck of a fuel tank, and the part number can be decreased. The valve body has an outer circumferential lip element which is projected from an outer circumferential edge and pressed against an annular projection projecting inward in a fluid flow path of the cap body, and an inner circumferential lip element which is projected from an inner circumferential edge in reverse direction to the outer circumferential lip element. The valve support plate supports the valve body from rear side of the outer circumferential lip element, and has a seal member against which the inner circumferential lip element is pressed from the support position to inner circumferential side. Biasing means for pressing the outer circumferential lip element of the valve body is connected to the valve support plate.

  • Patent number: 4942969
Abstract: A vapor pressure retention apparatus for applying pressure to the outside surface of a container holding a carbonated beverage. Application of the pressure increases the vapor pressure of the air above the carbonated beverage and thus allows less of the carbon dioxide dissolved in the beverage to escape into the air.

  • Patent number: 4938125
Abstract: A dispenser for liquids or granular materials suitable for use in an automatic cooking apparatus. Liquid ingredients are held in a container with a dispensing orifice in the bottom. The orifice is sealed by a valve at the underside of the container, which is mounted on an actuator member pivotally mounted to the underside of the container. The actuator member holds the valve seal over the orifice. The cooking apparatus rotates the container into position for dispensing, and as it approaches the dispensing position, a camming pin engages the actuator member causing it to rotate the valve seal away from the orifice. As a result, the contents of the container are dispensed.

  • Patent number: 4936474
Abstract: This relates to an improved container tamper evident bead and neck finish arrangement which provides improved tamper evident band breakage upon removal of an associated closure. Most specifically, beneath the customary retaining bead, a container neck finish is of corrugated or scalloped configuration and is of a size whereby the tamper evident band or a retaining bead thereof is stretched across the space defined by a groove between two adjacent ribs so as to provide for a degree of interlock between the stretched tamper band and the container neck finish such that the tamper evident band is restrained against rotation with the remainder of the closure when the closure is rotated to effect removal thereof. This provides for a much quicker and more reliable breaking of the webs joining the tamper evident band to the closure skirt.

  • Patent number: 4934543
Abstract: A pressurizing cap which may be readily attached and detached from the discharge neck of a bottle of carbonated liquid includes a housing having a first chamber proximate one end thereof and a skirt portion at an opposite end thereof which engages the bottle's neck. The first chamber retains a pressurized canister of innoxious gas such as carbon dioxide. The housing also comprises a second chamber. A first conduit leads from the first chamber to the second chamber, and a second conduit leads from the second chamber to the neck portion of the bottle. Means are provided within the second chamber for selectively connecting the first and second conduits whereby gas is released into the bottle. Liquid discharge means may also be provided which comprises a nozzle extending from the housing and a tube coupled at one end thereof to the nozzle and having an opposite end in communication with the liquid in the bottle. The cap is collinearaly mounted with the neck of the bottle.

  • Patent number: 4934544
Abstract: A z-tab innerseal for a container and method of application involves an innerseal having a first sealing portion for sealing a first portion of an opening defined by an upper rim of a container, a second sealing portion for sealing the remainder of the container opening and a flap portion between the first and second sealing portions which is adapted to be grasped and pulled upwardly by a user to remove the innerseal from the container opening. An advantage of the flap portion is that it allows the innerseal to be removed without having to penetrate or scrape the innerseal with a sharp object such as a knife. A method of forming the improved innerseal includes providing a blank of stock material having a folded portion, cutting the blank to form an innerseal, mounting the innerseal onto the rim of a container and sealing the innerseal to the container by passing the assembly through a heating station.

  • Patent number: 4930658
Abstract: An improved easy open can end having a retained tear strip extending diametrically partly across the can and defined by a score line, and a graspable pull tab adjacent and outside the open end of the score line. The pull tab is attached to the can end by means of a rivet, the can end around the base of the rivet being deformed so as to slightly tilt the rivet toward the finger end of the pull tab. Accordingly, initial lifting of the pull tab is fully directed to the initial fracture of the score line immediately in front of the rivet, thereby ensuring desirable venting action of internal pressure and allowing opening of the can end with less effort.

  • Patent number: 4930644
Abstract: A collapsible thin film plastic container assembly is provided which includes a unitary extrusion blow molded container body having a main peripheral side wall portion, a closed lower end and an open upper end. The side wall has thickened upper and lower minor portions, the upper minor portion provided with means for receiving a removable lid. The thickened upper and lower portions permit the container to remain in a substantially upright, self-supporting position, but permit the main peripheral side wall portion to collapse upon exertion of an axially directed compressive force. The process includes extruding a parison and blow molding the parison within a mold to form the container.

  • Patent number: 4930647
Abstract: A thermoplastic closure comprises an annular tamper band connected to the skirt of a cap by frangible bridges. In one embodiment of the closure, axially extending ratchet teeth on the bottom of the tamper band cooperate with axially extending lugs on a container shoulder or transfer bead. As the cap is screwed onto the container, the teeth ratchet over the lugs. When an attempt is made to unscrew the cap, the ratchet teeth engage the lugs to prevent rotation of the tamper band so that continued application of an unscrewing force to the cap results in fracturing of the bridges along the intersection of reduced cross-section between the bridges and the skirt. The axial length of the engaging surfaces of the ratchet teeth and lugs is sufficient that they remain axially aligned through any initial axial separation of the cap and transfer bead until the ratchet teeth and lugs engage.

  • Patent number: 4930656
Abstract: A lid for sealing a container has a removable tear skirt. The lid includes a cap portion with a circular crown and depending sidewall. An undulating annular groove which defines a frangible thin walled strip divides the sidewall into an upper section and a lower tear skirt. The cap portion has a reinforced inner wall assembly that is spaced apart from an outer depending wall, the tear skirt being attached to a lower portion of the outer wall. A weakened area adjacent to and intersecting a small lateral slot formed in the undulating groove facilitates breaking of the tear skirt. When the tear skirt is removed, a plurality of bendable flaps are formed at the lower portion of the outer wall. A fastening rib formed on an inner surface of the outer wall is configured to lockingly engage a locking flange on the container for securing the lid to the container. Opening slots provided in the flaps are configured to receive a tool for disengaging the fastening ribs and the locking flange.
