  • Patent number: 5521441
Abstract: A starter which assuredly and simply sealed an outer circumference of one engagement portion between a housing and a yoke or the other engagement portion between the yoke and an end frame with a band-shaped seal member. The banded-shaped seal member covers each engagement portion of the yoke, a center plate, the housing, a brush holder, and the end frame. The seal member has a clearance which is placed to correspond to a notched ventilation hole so that the yoke can be opened in the direction of the starter bottom or the ground.

  • Patent number: 5512788
Abstract: A system which utilizes wasted or exhausted air flow from one or more ventilation systems of a bounded area such as a mine, a tunnel or some other area requiring ventilation. The exhaust fan of the ventilation system expels air causing air velocities to be directed out of the bounded area at one or more locations. The exhaust air from these necessary ventilation systems is captured and converted to electrical energy by existing wind-powered electrical energy generating equipment suitably positioned in front of the exhaust fan.

  • Patent number: 5512787
Abstract: A facility for the generation of electrical power and products for the refueling of clean air vehicles (CAV's) and marine craft and for use by the facility and/or general market. A host of electrical power generation devices including solar panels, solar collectors, wave action generators, reverse osmosis water purification apparatus, electrolizers, hydrogen/oxygen purifiers and compressors, storage units, fuel cells, AC/DC motors and generators and the various connectors, gauges and networks used for interconnecting and dispensing the products of a combined source system are used jointly and severally in a unique siting about an elevated roadway or railway. The idealized site for this combined system is a bridge, or other elevated structures such as lock superstructures, dam faces and otherwise towering facilities. The siting structure is most desirably located adjacent a water source, be it a river, bay, tidal estuary or the like.

  • Patent number: 5510656
Abstract: In a method and apparatus for anchoring a structure such as a wave collector, sediment is pumped from the sea bed into the base of the structure. Hydraulic tuning of a wave energy converter collector, an advantageous rotor structure and a means of smoothing wave-to-electricity energy conversion are also described and claimed.

  • Patent number: 5508566
Abstract: A starter for starting an engine with a ring gear includes a starter motor having a plurality of field poles disposed around an inner periphery thereof, an output shaft for transmitting rotation of the starter motor, a pinion mounted on the output shaft for meshing with the ring gear, and a magnet switch including a fixed contact and a plunger with a movable contact, which abuts the fixed contact. By moving the plunger and causing the movable contact, to abut the fixed contact electrical current is passed to the starter motor. The magnet switch is disposed in an end of the starter opposite an end where the pinion is disposed, with the plunger being disposed orthogonal to a longitudinal axis of the starter motor. The starter disclosed herein reduces the axial and diametral lengths and overall volume of the starter.

  • Patent number: 5506453
Abstract: A machine for converting wind energy into electrical energy comprising in combination a housing; propellers at the forward and rearward ends of the housing mounted on shafts for rotation upon a common horizontal axis of rotation; post means supporting a central extent of the housing for rotation in a horizontal plane to face into the wind; an alternator within the housing formed of a power take off member coupled to one shaft and a rotor coupled to another shaft for counter rotating when the propellers rotate for thereby generating electricity; centrifugal pitch control mechanisms for varying the pitch of the propellers as a function of the propeller speed; transmission mechanisms for varying the speed of rotation of the rotor and power take off member as a function of the wind speed; brake mechanisms for proportionately restraining the propellers against rotation; and an aerogovernor operatively coupled with the brake mechanisms for control thereof in response to the speed of the wind as determined by the ae

  • Patent number: 5495128
Abstract: An electrical power generating system that uses wind power to drive hydraulic pumps or motors that in turn drive electrical generators. The system uses a plurality of squirrel-cage type fans or turbines arranged with their axes in different intersecting planes to more efficiently utilize the wind. The wind turbines are mounted on a partially enclosed supporting structure that directs the wind for the most efficient use of the turbines, and the entire unit is rotatable about a pivot support so that the unit can swing through a full circle to orient itself to the wind direction.

  • Patent number: 5495127
Abstract: Disclosed is an engine starting apparatus which suppresses engine vibrations and noises during engine cranking and reduces consumption of electric power supplied for engine cranking. When an engine starts to rotate to produce its torque, electric power supplied to a starter motor for engine cranking is reduced gradually so that a sum of torques produced by the starter motor and the engine may be prevented from increasing excessively. In the case a generator/motor is used for engine starting, operation of the generator/motor is switched from motor operation to generator operation for suppressing excessive speed rise when engine starting is completed.
