Abstract: This device includes two separate impression-molded all gum and cap-cup encasements (upper and lower arches) with veneered artificial teeth mounted to the encasement walls. The veneered encasements comprise the completed all gum and cap-cup dental device. The completed cap-cup encasements cover the upper and lower arches of full sets of natural teeth and gums.

Abstract: A dental control unit of the kind pivotally mounted on a swinging arm and having a support base for operatory equipment and a housing covering said equipment and base includes a pair of fully interchangeable handles, releasable mounted to the bottom of the base and means on the top of the base to lock the handles to the bottom of the base with the handles being selectively locked in place and released by movement of finger tabs projecting through the base by an operator grasping the handles beneath the base.

Abstract: A clinical appliance which is useful for taking samples from a tissue or a tissue-associated material is disclosed. The appliance has a head and a handle and a pressure-sensitive means which comprises the head and the handle attached by a resiliently deformable member, and an instrument retained in the head. Marks are provided respectively on the head and the handle to indicate that when the marks are aligned, a selected force is being exerted on the instrument. A portion of the instrument which, in this case, consists of a needle member for probing periodontal pockets. A handle which is useful in a clinical appliance is also disclosed. The handle is an elongate member having an attachment means at one end which comprises a pair of spaced-apart parallel plates and a shaped opening intermediate the plates. The attachment means is to allow the fitting of a head to the handle. Adjacent to the attachment means is a grip portion of the handle. The handle tapers from the grip over its length to a distal end.

Abstract: A buccal tube insert including a frusto-conically shaped main body having a predetermined cross-sectional dimension and which defines a longitudinally disposed passageway which extends substantially therethrough, the main body disposed in friction fitting relation within a lumen defined by a buccal tube.

Abstract: Method and device for fracturing the interface between dental structures that have been secured together, and for adhesive removal and cleaning of the teeth. The device comprises an ultrasonic tool for providing hi-directional movement of a preferred amplitude and frequency. The tool is applied against one of the dental structures at an acute angle with respect to a plane in which the interface between the dental structures lies. Alternatively, the dental tool is applied against the adhesive on the tooth surface for removal thereof. In another alternative, the dental tool is utilized with a liquid layer to provide cavitation of the liquid, thereby cleaning and polishing the enamel surface.

Abstract: A system and method is disclosed for providing a simulation of a flashover condition that can occur during the course of suppression of a live fire. The flashover simulation is implemented by selectively supplying and igniting fuel to an auxiliary or flashover fuel burner assembly positioned adjacent the ceiling of the burn room of a firefighter trainer. Preferably, the flashover simulation is implementable only upon attainment of a threshold value of one or more pre-selected trainer operational parameters that are monitored throughout the course of a training scenario. Preferred trainer operational parameters for such monitoring include flame height at a main burner assembly and air temperature adjacent to or near a ceiling portion of the burn room.

Abstract: A system for displaying and selecting, a process for selecting, and a device for selecting hair dye shades, which allow the consumer to make a knowledgeable and informed hair dye selection. A horizontal or vertical axis along which hair dyes are arranged by similar colors and shades; another axis, perpendicular to the first axis, along which hair dyes are arranged by the length of duration of effect; a hair dye shade selector comprising color samples that each represent the haircolor that will result when hair of a particular color is treated with a particular hair dye are included; on-shelf consumer education and instruction materials regarding hair dye; display system indicators; and packaging indicators.

Abstract: An educational medical mannequin comprising head, neck, torso, arms and legs. Alternate embodiments of the educational medical mannequin may comprise, in any combination, a tracheostomy opening, injection zones disposed at various locations, nitro patches, a J feeding tube, a stoma, a supra pubic catheter opening, a wound, a decubitus site, a vein with phlebitis, an edematous hand, a breathing sound generator, and kidney location indicia. Additional equipment that may be used in combination with the educational medical mannequin include an intravenous assembly, a catheter and a hypodermic syringe. The educational medical mannequin is used for training nurses and lay persons in various medical procedures.

Abstract: A CPR mannequin for practising cardiopulmonary resuscitation of a human has a simulated human head and neck portion with an air passage extending from a mouth opening to neck opening in an end of the neck remote from the head, and an inflatable simulated human chest portion secured to the neck and having a flexible wall member simulating a chest which rises and falls with inflation and deflation of the chest portion. The inflatable chest portion has an air capacity representative of a lung capacity of a human adult, and a further air passage connecting the air passage in the neck to the inflatable chest portion.

Abstract: Apparatus and process are provided for arbitrary drawing of planar objects wherein an air current is created in a receptacle, and planar objects, having two opposing faces each having the reproduction of a picture, are introduced into the receptacle. The apparatus includes elements for capturing a planar object in an arbitrary manner, and the captured planar object can be extracted from the receptacle. The receptacle has, on its portion located toward the front, a groove having a trapezoidal section whose width decreases from its upper portion to its lower portion. The base of the groove extends, at its lower portion, beyond the outer surface of the receptacle so as to define a space which is adequate to enable passage of a planar object. The space is blocked by a retractable bar forming the base of the groove for engaging the planar object.

Abstract: A disposable dental curing light guide which can be made of a low cost polymer. The light guide can be radioactively sterilized and packed in a sterilized dispensing envelope to maintain it in a sterilized and clean state. The light guide can provide satisfactory transmission of light between 400 nm and 500 nm for dental curing purposes.

Abstract: The present invention provides an improved endo-osseous implant which has sufficient binding force against occlusal pressure from every direction and does not cause any inflammation. The endo-osseous implant of the invention includes a large number of concaves on the circumference of a cylindrical main body embedded in dental alveoli. Each of the concaves has a shape of hemisphere or alternatively a shape of double hemisphere consisting of an upper hemisphere of greater diameter and a lower hemisphere of smaller diameter. Part of the cylindrical main body in contact with gingiva is covered with a polycrystal ceramic layer, and fine notches are further formed on the residual surface of the main body.

Abstract: A card game to facilitate the learning of spelling words. The card game is comprised of a number deck and a word deck. Players play the numbered cards and are then commanded to spell a word from a card from the word deck having a length equal to the additive sum of the numbered playing cards played.

Abstract: A dental apparatus, in combination with a dental handpiece that incorporates a rotable chucking mechanism with a locking means, and a driving mechanism that rotates the chucking mechanism at high speeds when actuated, comprising a dental bur which has a tool head at one end and a shank segment at the other end, a portion of the shank segment is received and locked in the chucking mechanism, and a barrier and deflecting means mounted intermediate the ends of the dental bur, the barrier and deflecting means upon being rotated by the chucking mechanism forming a barrier or shield and also creating air streams to intercept and prevent air-borne particles generated by dental procedures from being deposited on and in the handpiece.

Abstract: A surgical suture demonstration portfolio for demonstrating the use of various surgical sutures is provided. Suture packages and suture manipulating tools are provided in conjunction with an area having materials which facilitate demonstrating the sutures.

Abstract: A disposable hand tool of the compressed air drive type is disclosed for use in performing dental procedures on a workpiece. An elongated body has conduits penetrating a base at one end of the body. The conduits allow entry of a light beam, a pressurized water stream, and a compressed air stream into the body. The base includes attachment threads for securing the body to a source of the light beam, pressurized water stream, and compressed air stream. A plurality of passageways are in communication with the conduits for conducting the light beam, the water stream, and the air stream through the body. A head at the opposite end of the body contains bearings attached to a supporting shaft. The shaft includes a turbine impeller and a clamping hole for removable attachment of a dental bur to the shaft. The air stream drives the impeller at a high speed for rotating the bur about a rotational axis.

Abstract: A dental handpiece holder adapted such that the length of the handpiece holder for holding and accommodating a dental handpiece is shortened in the axial direction, whereby the main unit of the handpiece can be attached to and detached from the joint section of the handpiece for the purpose of replacement with one hand of an operator. Also a dental treatment assembly by use of the holder.The handpiece holder comprising a gutter-shaped receiving seat, first and second grip sections extending from both side fringes of the receiving seat, contact sections formed at the leading ends of the first and second grip sections respectively and an engagement groove or projection extending across the contact sections or the peripheral areas thereof in the internal circumferential direction of the grip sections.

Abstract: A reading apparatus for a handicapped person includes a reader for optically reading character information from a recording medium and photoelectrically converting the character information so that it is displayed by a pin pattern on a display. When the operator detects a character area from the display result, an area of an object for character recognition is designated by an input unit and the execution of the character recognition is instructed. A processor recognizes the character read by the reader and displays the character so that it can be perceived in a tactile manner. Whether the result of the reading of the character is correct or not can be checked by tactile perception. The recognition result of the character recognized can also be converted into an audio output by an audio output unit.

Abstract: A syringe tip is locked into a three-way dental handpiece body by means of a syringe tip locking assembly that screws into a threaded receiver in the body of the handpiece. The locking assembly comprises an adaptor that has a central tapered male member that receives one end of the syringe tip, a gripping member that fits over the tapered male member and a locking cap that screws onto the adaptor and over the gripping member. The gripping member includes a plurality of gripping fingers that engage the syringe tip and the locking cap effects the tightening of the gripping fingers into the syringe tip. The locking assembly both applies a positive gripping action to the syringe tip and also pulls the syringe tip onto the tapered male member to securely hold the syringe tip in the adaptor during use by the dentist. The gripping member is captivated inside the locking cap to prevent inadvertent separation of the pieces.

Abstract: A book is provided to teach and encourage writing skills which includes a picture printed on each leaf of a multi-leaved tear-off pad of identical leaves in each bundle of pages. The picture page is without words but has space in which the learner, typically a child, will generate writing to form a story which the learner imagines from viewing the picture. The multiple leaves, each having an identical picture, provide for the learner to tear off the top picture when a story has been written by the learner. Having a pad of identical pictures in each bundle of leaves provides the learner with a plurality of opportunities to re-formulate his or her written story, or to write a variety of different stories based upon the same picture. The sheets which have been written upon and then torn off from the picture pad will comprise a portfolio of the learner's educational progress. The teaching book is comprised of a number of such picture pads bound together to form a larger aggregate tear-off pad.
