  • Patent number: 8898771
Abstract: One or more embodiments of an apparatus and a method prevent a dangerous user behavior with a mobile communication device with an integrated pedometer. In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the integrated pedometer comprises a pedometer sensor and an associated software executed on a CPU and a memory unit of the mobile communication device, wherein the pedometer sensor is configured to detect a user's movements and vibrations to determine whether the user is walking or jogging based on a real-time determination from a sensor threshold value and an operation of the associated software. If the integrated pedometer determines that the user is currently walking or jogging, the associated software can dynamically activate a “walking lock” or a “jogging lock,” which prevents, prohibits, and/or limits the usage of certain device functions as long as the user is determined to be walking or jogging by the integrated pedometer.

  • Patent number: 8897365
Abstract: A system for executing video encoding operations. The system includes a video encoder for encoding an incoming video stream into a plurality of macro blocks. A motion estimation engine is coupled to the video encoder for controlling the encoding of the macro blocks. A video rate control processor is coupled to the video encoder and coupled to the motion estimation engine. The video rate control processor receives a plurality of parameters from the video encoder that indicate an encoding complexity for a macro block and a video frame of the video stream and, upon receiving an indication from the motion estimation engine, computes a quantization parameter for the macro block. The quantization parameter is dynamically adjusted for the video stream to achieve a target bit rate.

  • Patent number: 8897449
Abstract: Quantum computing methods and systems are described. A computing device receives an encrypted state from another device. The encrypted state is stored on a quantum register, and a sequence of operations is applied to the encrypted state in the quantum register. The sequence of operations includes an operation parameterized by a control message from the other device. Applying the sequence of operations manipulates the state of the quantum register and an auxiliary quantum system. The auxiliary quantum system can be, for example, a qubit selected from four specified quantum states. Applying the sequence of operations produces encryption-key-update information. The computing device may send an encrypted output state and the encryption-key-update message to the other device.

  • Patent number: 8869245
Abstract: A user device is associated with a dynamic trust score that may be updated as needed, where the trust score and the updates are based on various activities and information associated with the mobile device. The trust score is based on both parameters of the device, such as device type, registered device location, device phone number, device ID, the last time the device has been accessed, etc. and activities the device engages in, such as amount of transactions, dollar amount of transactions, amount of denied requests, amount of approved requests, location of requests, etc. Based on a transaction request from the user device, the trust score and a network reputation score is used to determine an overall trust/fraud score associated with the transaction request.

  • Patent number: 8850608
Abstract: Aspects of the disclosure relate to combining on-chip structure with external current measurements for threat detection in an integrated circuit. This method considers Trojans' impact on neighboring cells and on the entire IC's power consumption, and effectively localizes the measurement of dynamic power. An on-chip structure can permit threat detections. In one aspect, the on-chip structure can comprise a plurality of sensors distributed across the entirety of the IC, with each sensor of the plurality of sensors being placed in different rows of a standard-cell design. In another aspect, data analysis can permit separating effect of process variations on transient power usage of the IC from effects of a hardware threat such power usage. The on-chip structure also can be employed for implementation of a PE-PUF.

  • Patent number: 8826419
Abstract: A computer device provides an execution environment that supports a plurality of processes. A plurality of key resources are associated with a security application that may perform process elevation to grant privileged access rights to a user process. A security module controls access to the key resources using an access control list. An anti-tamper mechanism creates a protection group as a local security group and adds a deny access control entry to the access control list. The anti-tamper mechanism intercepts the user process and creates a revised access token identifying the user process as a member of the protection group. The security module matches the protection group in the revised access token of the user process against the deny access control entry in the access control list of the key resources thereby restricting access by the user process even though the user process otherwise has privileges to access those resources.

  • Patent number: 8824564
Abstract: Aspects of a method and system for redundancy-based decoding of video content are provided. A bit sequence comprising video content may be decoded in a multilayer process based on a decoding algorithm and at least one physical constraint. The decoding algorithm may be based on the Viterbi algorithm. Whether the bit sequence comprises video content may be determined based on information provided by a portion of a packet header or by packet priority information necessary for enabling quality of service applications. The physical constraint may be based on border, DC component, and/or low frequency continuity between neighboring discrete cosine transform (DCT) blocks. The physical constraint may also be based on the consistency of video data coded by a variable length coding (VLC) operation. At least one physical constraint test may be performed on selected estimated video bit sequences to select a decoded output video bit sequence.

  • Patent number: 8819846
Abstract: A method and a terminal device for making multi-system constraint of a specified permission in a digital rights. A rights object related to content object is obtained by an executing device. The specific permission descriptions of the rights object include system constraint descriptions of a plurality of systems of the same type. The executing device obtains a corresponding system information in the device according to the system constraint descriptions and compares the system information in the device with the system information in the system constraint descriptions, so as to judge whether there is any system permitted in system constraint descriptions. If yes, it determines to permit executing the specific permission for the content object; otherwise, it determines not to permit executing said specific permission for the content object.
