Abstract: Multi-part business forms having speciality electronically imaged indicia are produced in a low-cost, high speed, low waste, and enhanced flexibility manner. While two part or four or more part forms may be produced, especially advantageous is the production of three part forms, such as airbills. After individual first, second and third parts are produced using conventional presses, the individual webs are separately fed to a collator and while fed to the collator are electronically imaged with speciality indicia, such as the name and address of the sender, airbill number, and—for the third part—a bar code. The webs are then collated on the collator, two business forms wide. A three part airbill produced includes first and second parts of carbonless paper stock having personalized first indicia electronically imaged on them, and a third part of carbonless label stock having the personalized indicia, and including bar code indicia, electronically imaged on it.

Abstract: A color identification and selection display for use in connection with the retail sale of custom-tinted architectural coatings and paints is based on lightness values or levels and is assembled from a plurality of take-home cards in the form of elongated strips that are placed with their longer axis in horizontal rows, each strip containing a plurality of color fields arranged in stripes separated by narrow neutral bands. Adjacent color stripes in a given row are of closely related hues that preferably decrease in wave length when moving from left to right along any given horizontal row. Since each strip contains a plurality of closely related colors, only one, or perhaps two, take-home cards need be removed to assist in the final selection of the desired color. Each horizontal row includes a family of colors formulated from a single type of base, i.e., a tint base, a pastel base, a deep base or an accent base.

Abstract: An aesthetically pleasing greeting card having a light transmitting carrier with a scene printed on both sides of the front cover thereof inserted and adhered between two substantially equal sized folded over sections with substantially equal sized cutouts therethrough. The scenes are identical with one being the reverse of the other so that when viewing through the cutouts and the light transmitting carrier from either side thereof toward a light source one bright common scene is viewed with one side having a reverse scene from the other side. The greeting card has a solid back either with printed indica thereon or left blank for the user to inscribe thereon.

Abstract: An office binder, having a surface made of board, paper, coated paper, paperboard, or plastic film, on which a transparent film is attached over part of it surface via attachment surfaces in order to form a film pocket. A method for equipping the office binder, having a surface made of board, paper, coated paper, or plastic film, with a film pocket, in which a film having an adhesive side is laid onto the surface and is attached over part of the surface via adhesive attachment surfaces.

Abstract: A specimen container label is particularly suited for use by robotic elements to improve the tedious process of aliquoting urine samples to increase productivity and decrease costs in laboratories. The label has a substrate with top and bottom surfaces and pressure sensitive adhesive provided on the bottom surface to effectively secure the label to a specimen container. The substrate also includes a central enlarged, preferably circular in plan, portion, with at least one wing, typically two opposite wings, extending outwardly from the central enlarged portion, and an opening in the substrate at the central portion which allows a robotic element to handle a specimen container cover over which the substrate central portion is applied. The opening may be covered with a glassine patch, which is easily pierced by the robotic element. The label may initially be provided with a release liner of the same dimensions and configuration, and the wings may be necked down where they engage the central portion.

Abstract: A business form is provided which is particularly useful in shipping products where certain preprinted information can be provided and then individualized information is printed before the form is applied to a substrate. The form includes a face ply which has a pattern of adhesive applied to at least a portion of the inner face, and a release liner which includes a pattern of adhesive which exposes a portion of the release liner to direct adhesive contact to the face ply without intervening release coating to permanently adhere a part of the release liner to the face ply. The release liner has a surrounding protective border provided with release coating on the release face thereof and which is removed prior to application to the substrate, and a slip which remains with the form as applied to the substrate. The face ply includes lines of perforation defining a central portion.

Abstract: A business card assembly having a standard wallet-sized card with top and bottom surfaces. Business card identification information is printed on the top surface. Two or more adhesive-backed removable labels are secured to the bottom surface of the business card, and each of these labels has the business card identification information printed on it. The labels may be peeled off and placed, for example, in one's personal planner, file, or other convenient location. The card may be a traditional flat style, or a tent style. The card may also include a release liner beneath the removable labels, the release liner also optionally including additional printed information.

Abstract: A security document or token such as a banknote is provided which has a transparent portion of plastics material which includes a security device. The region surrounding the transparent portion and preferably all the remaining part of the banknote is printed with indicia. The security device includes regions of embossed lines extending at different angles to each other defining different shapes that are visible to a greater or lesser extent upon transmission and reflection of light as the note is tilted, rotated or viewed from different angles relative to the light source. The embossed lines in some of the regions are finer than coarser and deeper and more widely spaced lines in the other regions. The coarser, deeper lines are of such a thickness and width as to be detectable by touch in addition to being visible by the naked eye.

Abstract: A binding assembly includes first and second sheet retaining members which are releasably attached to a base member by first and second latching mechanisms. The sheet retaining members include a pair of side members which support a pair of pins and tubes onto which sheets of paper or other materials are placed. Each of the side members includes an engaging rod which is receivable in a channel provided in the base member to retain the sheet retaining members to the base member. Each of the latching mechanisms are independently pivotable about an axis perpendicular to the pins and tubes from a retaining position where the sheet retaining members are constrained to the base member, to a releasing position where the sheet retaining members may be detached from the base member.

Abstract: The pliable, readily flattenable loop binder for retaining loose-leaf sheets has a mounting strip with an elongated spine, an adhesive on the back of the spine, and a removable liner over the adhesive. Paired transversely aligned loop-forming elements project outward from opposing longitudinal edges of the spine. Off one edge are pliable and readily bendable straps. Off the other edge are strap receivers. The strap of a pair is threaded through a punched hole of punched paper and drawn over the spine and then threaded through its receiver so that the back surface of the strap faces the back surface of the receiver. Each loop formed by a pair of loop-forming elements is teardrop in contour and is flattenable toward the front surface of the spine with a single folded bend in said strap. Locking structures on straps engage the receivers to resist shifting of straps in their receivers.

Abstract: A multi-ply business form, comprising a chain of custody form having a first section for recording information required by federal drug testing regulations, and a second section containing one or more adhesive labels for labeling containers of body fluid specimens to be tested, and, an airbill form detachably secured to the chain of custody form, the airbill form containing a first part for recording information about sender and recipient of the container, and a second part containing an adhesive label containing information about sender and recipient, the adhesive label arranged to be secured to the container.

Abstract: A device for the back rounding of book blocks in a book binding machine cooperating with a conveyor device. The device includes a driving arrangement and rounding elements driven in rotation by the driving arrangement. The rounding elements taking up the book block following release of the book block by the conveyor device. The rounding elements acting on both sides of the book block through pressurized rotational movement thereof. When the book blocks are gripped by the rounding elements, the rounding elements may selectively travel in a lifting movement which is separate from the rotational movement into preselectable, defined vertical positions.

Abstract: A label which can be attached to a commercial article for the emission of an alarm signal, includes a body of the label containing a device which can be perceived by suitable detection equipment for emission of an alarm signal, a band for attachment to the article for connecting the body of the label to the article, and a structure for restraining the band and the body of the label firmly one to the other. The label body includes a housing suitable for being entered by the band. The band has an end band section and an intermediate section which oppose each other and are compressed one in relation to the other in the housing. The band has, along at least part of one longitudinal face, securing teeth so that the portions of securing teeth on the parts of the band in contact in the housing are compressed against each other in such a way as to block relative sliding of the portions of the band in the housing during an attempt to disengage the article from the band.

Abstract: A book is provided, especially for children, having a cover and a content including several pages, on which pictures and/or text are found. In order to ensure that children approach a book of this type with great enthusiasm, this book is individualized, in that the owner of the book appears in the book him-/herself. Since mentioning by name in the continuous text would lead to undesirable empty spaces, or even to unwanted line, paragraph and page breaks, however, areas are provided in the pictures, which are already present in the book, for applying a photographic representation of the owner of the book.

Abstract: A multi-part (e.g. three part) business form is particularly suited for use in dispensing sample drugs where it is necessary to have a label to be placed on a sample medication container, a like label to be placed on the patient's chart, and a record sheet, to be placed in the sample medication distribution log. First and second top and intermediate, respectively, label parts each have a face ply having pressure sensitive adhesive on a back surface and in engagement with an adhesive release coated liner ply, and a third, bottom, paper part underlies the first and second parts. Common non-variable indicia is imaged on the first part face ply, the second part face ply, and the third part, and the parts are releasably connected together (e.g. by permanent adhesive and a line of weakness, adjacent the top edges of the parts) so that at least some of the common indicia is in alignment. Carbonless coatings transfer indicia imaged on the first part face ply to the second part face ply and to the third part.

Abstract: A slide chart in which the sleeve and the slide have mutually engaging flaps which click past one another upon insertion of the slide into the sleeve but engage to prevent withdrawal of the slide from the sleeve.

Abstract: A wallet size pocketed booklet which has been adapted to hold a card having the dimensions of a conventional credit card, and is particularly designed to be carried in the credit card compartment of a wallet or similar size compartment holder. The use of a resin emulsion adhesive, a vinyl acetate ethylene copolymer emulsion, in the pocketed booklet makes it possible to create a properly formed pocket closed on three sides for holding and protecting the card.

Abstract: A binder for storing collectibles in holder pages of a material dissimilar to the binder cover. The sheets of pages are fastened to each other and to the binder cover by ultrasonically sealing the sheets directly or indirectly through the internal surface of the cover to a concealed anchoring rib of the same material as the holder pages, which anchoring rib is disposed and secured in the spine of the cover. A method of manufacturing a binder for storing collectibles is also disclosed in which a series of sheets of pages is superimposed over the internal surface of the binder cover and then the sheets are fastened by ultrasonically sealing them to the cover by means of ultrasonic sealing tools which pierce and fuse the sheets along the desired line of attachment to form a single booklet, and then continue directly or indirectly through the internal surface of the cover to contact a concealed anchoring rib of the same material disposed in the spine of the binder.

Abstract: This need is met by the present invention wherein an improved shipment form is provided comprising a partially releasable liner ply, a peel-out package label portion, and a peel-out signature tab. In accordance with one embodiment of the present invention, a shipment form is provided comprising a face sheet, a liner ply, and an adhesive interposed between the face sheet and the liner ply. The face sheet includes printed indicia for indicating an attempted delivery. The adhesive includes a laminating adhesive portion and a reusable adhesive portion. The liner ply defines a releasable liner ply portion adjoining a laminated liner ply portion. The releasable liner ply portion is configured to releasably adhere to the reusable adhesive portion while remaining adjoined to the laminated liner ply portion.

Abstract: A hole-punching and binding apparatus for papers includes a hole-punching device drivable to move along a vertical direction. The hole-punching device includes a cutter seat carrying thereon a number of cutters that are equidistantly spaced in a row to punch a row of holes in a stack of papers. Each cutter being freely movable in a row of compartments in the cutter seat so as to optionally follow a hole-punching travel of the cutter seat under control of a slidable shield. A lever-like resilient load-on plate is used to press and thus close open ends of helical coils and to help the user extend the helical coils through a stack of punched papers. The coil-closing device is drivable to move along a horizontal direction. The coil-closing device cooperates with a fixed plate to turn the open ended helical coils into closed ended helical coils.
