  • Patent number: 7857556
Abstract: A drill press has a bit, a base and a support shaft with a lower end supported by the base and an upper end supporting the housing. A lower plate with a connector coupled between the lower plate and the support shaft varies the angular attitude of lower plate with respect to the bit. An upper plate with threaded apertures, recesses, blocks and bolts secures the upper plate in preselected planar positions with respect to the lower plate. Aligned central apertures in the plates with a pivot pin provide a plurality of preselected rotational orientations of the upper plate with respect to the lower plate.

  • Patent number: 7854575
Abstract: A reference block 30 attached to a housing 20a is moved together with a main spindle 20 to a measurement start position A1, and the reference block 30 is so moved in a Z-axis direction as to across air injected from an air injection nozzle 25, so that a thermal displacement of the main spindle 20 is calculated based on change in pressure measured in the movement. The outer circumference of a tool mounted on the main spindle 20 is brought close to a leading end face of the air injection nozzle 25, and the air is injected to the outer circumference of the tool while rotating the tool at a predetermined position, and the air pressure is measured so that the rotational deflection of the tool is calculated based on the change in the measured pressure.

  • Patent number: 7850405
Abstract: The present invention relates to an improved hole saw boss (10) and in particular, to a boss including a threaded member (12) adapted to accommodate two hole saws of the same or different bore thread diameters. The present invention allows for a pre-existing aperture (22) in a work piece to be simply enlarged. This is useful if a new lock mechanism is being installed in a door with a pre-existing aperture where the lock mechanism requires a larger aperture than that which was in existence. Currently the aperture has to be enlarged by manual handwork since there is no centre-point to which a pilot drill may be enlarged. The threaded bore diameters of the present invention correspond with the commonly available hole saw threaded bore diameters. The present invention therefore provides the public with device for enlarging apertures which is simply, cost effective and can be used with currently available hole saws.

  • Patent number: 7832966
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a helical drill configuration that allows substantially flat bottomed holes to be machined. At the cutting end of the body member, there are at least two cutting edges that are symmetrically oriented on opposing sides of the rotational axis of the drill. In an embodiment of the invention, first and second cutting edge portions form a continuous surface which provides strength and tool stability. The height of the second portions of each of the cutting edges remains relatively consistent along the horizontal for formation of a generally flat bottom hole. In the embodiment, a center point is defined by two sloped peak surfaces. A central straight chisel edge is formed by the intersection of the two sloped peak surfaces. The first cutting edge section extends from the chisel edge to the second cutting edge section. The first cutting edge section for both cutting edges is formed by symmetrically thinning the two peak surface.

  • Patent number: 7832967
Abstract: A rotary cutting tool that is composed of a tool shank with at least one chucking groove or chip flute and one exchangeable cutting insert. At the tip of the shank a recess for accommodating the cutting insert is provided. The tool shank, on its circumference, has a limb with a bearing surface that is inclined relative to the tool axis and that corresponds to a likewise inclined bearing surface on a wing of the cutting insert. The inclination of the bearing surfaces produces an axial force that retains the cutting insert on the tool shank. • Patent number: 7832965
Abstract: A drill has a housing formed with an outlet hole, a fan expelling an air stream from the outlet hole, a drive spindle projecting from the housing adjacent the outlet and centered on and rotatable about an axis, and a chuck body carried on the housing. A tightening sleeve rotatable about the axis on the chuck body carries a plurality of radially shiftable jaws, and interengaging screw formations operatively engaged between the body and the sleeve can shift the jaws radially in the guides on rotation of the sleeve relative to the body. A shield sleeve angularly fixed to the housing and surrounding the tightening sleeve has a rear end juxtaposed with the housing radially outside the outlet hole such that the air stream enters the shield sleeve. Inside the shield sleeve forward of its rear end a passage and a particle-expelling hole collect drilling particles and blow them out the particle-expelling hole.

  • Patent number: 7824135
Abstract: The invention relates to a drill (4) and a device or a method for drilling boreholes in workpieces (3), in which a periodically acting radial force (19) is exerted on the drill head (5) of the drill (4). The drill head (5) of the drill (4) has a cutting edge (52) extending only over a part of the diameter D (51) and is designed to have a lateral, V-shaped chip removing groove or bead (59) and with a channel (12) with an outlet opening (56) in the drill head (5) for supplying a drill fluid (9). On a drill side (61) of the drill head (5) opposite the bead (59) between a first and a second cylinder casing partial surface (64, 65) of the drill head (5) a rear offset (63) is formed which reduces the cross section of the drill head (5) in relation to an enclosing cylinder casing surface (61) of the drill head (5).

  • Patent number: 7806635
Abstract: A tool for working a workpiece comprises an elongate member and a cam member. The elongate member comprises at least two extremities comprising at least one blade member. The at least two extremities are operable to separate in response to a pressurized medium. A conduit is in fluid communication with the extremities, and a pair of vents are in fluid communication with the conduit. The vents are operable to expel fluid communicated through the conduit. The cam member comprises an inner surface defining an opening. The inner surface of the cam resists expulsion of fluid from the vents, such that the cam and vents are operable to vary the pressure of fluid communicated through the conduit. The pressure variation varies the separation of the extremities as the elongate member is advanced through the cam toward a workpiece. The tool may be used to create bores having a non-cylindrical profile.

  • Patent number: 7806637
Abstract: A tool, such as a pneumatic tool, includes a casing, tool-holder spindle extending along an axis, and a drive mechanism for the tool-holder spindle. The mechanism uses a first member for driving the spindle in rotation about its axis and a second member for driving the spindle in translation along its axis. The second drive member is screwed onto a threaded portion of the spindle so that the spindle advances or returns as a function of the relative rate of rotation of the drive members. The second drive member is displaced along the axis between an advanced position and a returned position.

  • Patent number: 7794183
Abstract: A burrless, flexible track drilling system employing a counterweight tool balancing subsystem. The counterweight tool balancing subsystem provides essentially a “weightless” feel to a machining subassembly of the system that carries a drill and an electromagnet. This enables an operator to move the machining subassembly vertically with only a very minimal degree of effort being required. The machining subassembly also includes a plurality of lifting subassemblies that aid the user in lifting and lowering the electromagnet away from and toward a pair of panels on which a drilling operation is being performed. This also significantly reduces operator fatigue and contributes to a highly ergonomic system.

  • Patent number: 7785047
Abstract: The invention relates to a cutting element for a hollow drill comprising a cutting area and an essentially cylindrical area. The essentially cylindrical area has recesses, which are arranged on the inside at regular intervals and open toward the cutting area. In one embodiment of the invention, the recesses extend in an axial direction while being arranged in an interspaced manner preferably in the peripheral direction. The recesses arranged at regular intervals in the peripheral direction produce a geometric shape that is generally described as a polygon. The invention also relates to a cutter support and to a hollow drill. The cutting element is connected to the cutter support via a clamping connection preferably in a manner that enables the cutting element to be detached.
