  • Patent number: 7706603
Abstract: A detection method is based on a statistical analysis of the appearance of model patches from all possible viewpoints in the scene, and incorporates 3D geometry during both matching and pose estimation processes. By analyzing the computed probability distribution of the visibility of each patch from different viewpoints, a reliability measure for each patch is estimated. That reliability measure is useful for developing industrial augmented reality applications. Using the method, the pose of complex objects can be estimated efficiently given a single test image.

  • Patent number: 7672521
Abstract: A system and method for page composition in a processor-controlled printing system. Formatted image data is first received to a processor, the data representing image elements to be merged into a new document. At least one compressed cell describing each of the page elements is generated based on the formatted image data. A compressed cell contains pixilated image data of a predetermined pixel size. An element table including at least one cell pointer for each page element is generated. Each cell pointer includes a memory location and a cell type for each compressed cell that is pointed to by the generated element table. A merged page is composed based on the cell type entries of the element tables. • Patent number: 7657087
Abstract: This invention provides a method and computer-readable medium for detecting flesh-tone regions in pictures, images, and videos. First, a flesh-tone axis is defined in a color space coordinate system, the flesh-tone axis passing through both the center of a flesh-tone region and the origin of the color space coordinate system. A perpendicular point, is then calculated on the flesh-tone axis as being the point having the shortest distance to an input pixel. A first distance and a second distance are then calculated based on the coordinates of the input pixel, the perpendicular point and the center of the flesh-tone region. The determination as to whether the input pixel is in the flesh-tone region can be made based on the first distance and second distance.

  • Patent number: 7627187
Abstract: A method and apparatus is disclosed herein for decoding data (e.g., video data) using transforms. In one embodiment, the decoding process comprises scaling a block of coefficients using a scaling factor determined for each coefficient by computing an index for said each coefficient and indexing a look-up table (LUT) using the index. The index is based on a quantization parameter, a size of the block of coefficients, and a position of said each coefficient within the block. The method also comprises applying a transform to the block of scaled coefficients.

  • Patent number: 7620224
Abstract: A path 22 representing the center line of a curved cylinder 21 is acquired (step S1). The path 22 can be set by a GUI while a volume rendering image displayed on a display device is viewed. Alternatively, the path 22 can be set automatically when the curved cylinder 21 is designated as a subject of observation. Then, a region of the curved cylinder 21 is extracted as a subject pf observation with the path 22 used as the center (step S2). Then, sections 23 and 24 are generated as if the extracted region was cut open along the path 22 (step S3). In this case, the sections 23 and 24 are curved along the curvature of the curved cylinder 21. Accordingly, CPR images are synthesized on the curved sections (step S4).

  • Patent number: 7609846
Abstract: In a digital image matching method, reference calibration data associated with one or more reference digital image files is ascertained. The reference digital image files each have reference calibration data that is hidden metadata and can also have public metadata that is readable by a different procedure. A test digital image file is obtained and a data structure capable of holding the reference calibration data is detected in the test digital image file. The presence of second calibration data within the data structure of the test digital image file is determined. If the reference and second calibration data match, then the test digital image file and reference digital image files are from the same digital acquisition device.

  • Patent number: 7596265
Abstract: Methods, machines, and computer-readable media storing machine-readable instructions for segmenting pixels in an image are described. In one aspect, a region of background pixels is identified in the image. At least some of the background pixels in the region are located on a boundary spatially delimiting the region. One or more orientation-dependent adaptive thresholds are determined for one or more respective candidate growth directions from a given background pixel located on the region boundary. Color distances between the given background pixel and candidate pixels in a neighborhood of the given background pixel are determined. The region is grown based on application of the one or more orientation-dependent adaptive thresholds to the determined color distances.

  • Patent number: 7593574
Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed that facilitate normalizing and beautifying digitally generated handwriting, such as can be generated on a tablet PC or via scanning a handwritten document. A classifier can identify extrema in the digital handwriting and label such extrema according to predefined categories (e.g., bottom, baseline, midline, top, other, . . . ). Multi-linear regression, polynomial regression, etc., can be performed to align labeled extrema to respective and corresponding desired points as indicated by the labels. Additionally, displacement techniques can be applied to the regressed handwriting to optimize legibility for reading by a human viewer and/or for character recognition by a handwriting recognition application. The displacement techniques can comprise a “rubber sheet” displacement algorithm in conjunction with a “rubber rod” displacement algorithm, which can collectively preserve spatial features of the handwriting during warping thereof.

  • Patent number: 7587081
Abstract: An image collection system collects stereo image data comprising left image data and right image data of a particular scene. An estimator estimates a reference three dimensional image density rating for corresponding reference volumetric cell within the particular scene at a reference range from an imaging unit. An image density compensator compensates for the change in image density rating between the reference volumetric cell and an evaluated volumetric cell by using a compensated three dimensional image density rating based on a range or relative displacement between the reference volumetric cell and the evaluated volumetric cell.

  • Patent number: 7558413
Abstract: A method for detecting target objects in a three dimensional (3D) image volume of an anatomical structure is disclosed. A set of candidate locations in the image volume are obtained. For each candidate location, sub-volumes of at least two different scales are cropped out. Each sub-volume comprises a plurality of voxels. For each of the sub-volumes, each sub-volume is rotated in at least two different orientations. A shape classifier is applied to each sub-volume. If the voxels in the sub-volume pass the shape classifier, a gradient direction is computed for the voxels. If the gradient direction for the voxels is one of a predefined orientation, a probability classifier is applied to the voxels. A probability measure computed by the probability classifier as a confidence measure is used for the sub-volume. If the confidence measure is above a predetermined threshold value, the sub-volume is determined to contain the target object.
