Patent number: 7956815Abstract: A low-profile antenna structure can control its directivity with great flexibility. Excited elements 11 and 12 are symmetrically arranged on a y-axis, whereas parasitic elements 13 and 14 are symmetrically arranged on an x-axis, with respect to an origin. The excited elements, as well as the parasitic elements, each have an inverted-F antenna structure and are a distance of ?/4 apart from each other. Feed circuits 21 and 22 are respectively connected to and feed signals to the excited elements 11 and 12, such that phases of the signals to be fed are different from each other by a desired degree. Variable reactors 23 and 24 (i) are respectively connected to the parasitic elements 13 and 14, and (ii) in accordance with reactance values thereof, can each change an electrical length of the corresponding one of the parasitic elements.Type: GrantFiled: January 4, 2008Date of Patent: June 7, 2011Assignee: Advanced Telecommunications Research Institute InternationalInventors: Masataka Ohira, Wuqiong Luo, Makoto Taroumaru, Amane Miura, Shigeru Saito, Masazumi Ueba, Takashi Ohira

Patent number: 7928912Abstract: A multiband antenna includes a long radiating branch, a short radiating branch, a short strip, a feed point, a grounding portion, a connecting portion, a long parasitic strip, and a short parasitic strip. The feed point, the long radiating branch, the short radiating branch, and the short strip are in a first plane. The grounding portion connects to the short strip. The connecting portion connects the long radiating branch, the short radiating branch, and the short strip. The long radiating branch, the short strip, and the connecting portion form a first inverted-L shaped antenna structure. The short radiating branch, the short strip, and the connecting portion form a second inverted-L shaped antenna structure. The long parasitic strip and the short parasitic strip are in a second plane and respectively connected to the grounding portion. The first plane is parallel to the second plane.Type: GrantFiled: July 11, 2008Date of Patent: April 19, 2011Assignees: Tsinghua University, Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., Ltd.Inventors: Wen-Hua Chen, Xin Wang, Zheng-He Feng

Patent number: 7876277Abstract: An antenna coil formed on a substrate surface of an insulating substrate has conductor lines forming four sides of a basic loop shape. Furthermore, the antenna coil has corner lines at a corner portion of the loop. For example, by forming trimming lines on the inner side of one of the corner lines, it becomes possible to adjust the resonant frequency in various ways without considerably disturbing the shape of distribution of magnetic flux density generated by the antenna coil as a whole.Type: GrantFiled: June 10, 2008Date of Patent: January 25, 2011Assignee: Alps Electric Co., Ltd.Inventor: Yuichi Shimizu

Patent number: 7868833Abstract: The invention as disclosed is of a buoyant cable antenna for use with underwater vehicles having improved bandwidth through the use of discrete distributed loading along the antenna. The buoyant cable antenna is designed with an antenna wire that is divided into N equal length segments of length d/2. A capacitor is coupled between every other segment such that capacitors are separated by a distance d. A shunt inductor is coupled to the antenna wire between the adjoining segments not separated by a capacitor such that the shunt inductors are separated by a distance d. This antenna design provides a substantially improved impedance bandwidth over existing prior art antennas at high frequency without increasing the physical profile of the antenna and without the use of active circuit elements.Type: GrantFiled: August 20, 2008Date of Patent: January 11, 2011Assignee: The United States of America as represented by the Secretary of the NavyInventor: David A.
