  • Patent number: 9649868
Abstract: A method of extending the gamut of standard 4 color process printing is presented. The method thus yields various novel process printing ink sets. According to exemplary embodiments, an extended color gamut can be provided without requiring the addition of a sixth or seventh primary ink to the existing 4-color ink set. In some embodiments, an enhanced gamut can be achieved by changing the colors of the four basic primary inks and only adding a fifth primary ink. This may be done, for example, by shifting the hue of two or three of the CMY primaries and adding an additional primary. Using only five process inks thus provides, for example, the typical packaging printer with more open print stations for spot color printing or for overprint varnish application. In another illustrative embodiment, a sixth process color may be added to the inventive five color ink set.

  • Patent number: 9643398
Abstract: An improved apparatus and method for printing directly onto Infra-Red (IR) transparent material (print media) such as Mylar using a method that is capable of using medium to high viscosity materials such as those needed for printed electronics. The proposed method would be able to print with variable data/imaging. A proposed method uses an IR receptor of which a print media is placed or passed over. Prior to irradiation the print media is coated with a sub-micron layer of dampening solution such as silicone oil that is then selectively evaporated off via a laser imaging device which passes IR energy thorough the dampening solution, print media and onto the receptor to evaporate dampening solution in areas that will be inked.

  • Patent number: 9630397
Abstract: After the end of a preceding print job, a printing press is stopped, and ink form rollers (6-1 to 6-4) of an ink roller group (6) are thrown off. After that, a printing plate (7) is exchanged with a printing plate (7?) of a next print job, and a blanket (91) mounted on a blanket cylinder (9) is cleaned. The opening amounts of ink fountain keys (4-1 to 4-n) corresponding to the image of the printing plate (7?) of the next print job are obtained. The obtained opening amounts of the ink fountain keys (4-1 to 4-n) are corrected by correction values of the opening amounts of the ink fountain keys (4-1 to 4-n) considering the influence of cleaning of the blanket (91) to obtain corrected opening amounts. In a state in which the opening amounts of the ink fountain keys (4-1 to 4-n) have been set to the corrected opening amounts, a corrected ink film thickness distribution corresponding to the image of the printing plate (7?) of the next print job is formed on the ink roller group (6).

  • Patent number: 9592662
Abstract: In a method to damp an oscillation of a roller driven via a drive in a printing system, a printing substrate web is directed across the roller, the roller and the printing substrate web forming a system capable of vibrating. With the drive the roller is driven with a predetermined nominal moment. With a sensor, a real value is determined of a variable representative of a velocity with which the printing substrate web is transported by the roller. In aid of a predetermined calculation rule, a correction moment is calculated from the determined real value such that a damping of the vibration-capable system results like a mechanical viscous damper. The correction moment is added to the predetermined nominal moment upon activation of the drive.
