Abstract: A substantially surface active agent-free and substantially polymeric agent-free foamable composition is disclosed, which includes short-chain alcohol, water, fatty alcohol or fatty acid or a combination of fatty alcohol and fatty acid and propellant. Also disclosed is a method of treatment by applying the substantially surface active agent-free and substantially polymeric agent-free foamable composition.

Abstract: Disclosed herein are apparatus and methods for producing emulsions, and, in particular, for maintaining laminar flow during production of emulsions containing microsuspensions. Disclosed herein are columns for receiving a packing material that permits fluid flow through the column. The columns have a periphery that defines an interior cavity in fluid communication with inlets and outlets of the column. Disclosed herein is a method of preparing an emulsion that includes (1) forming a first phase typically containing an organic solvent, a polymer, and one or more biologically active agents and/or chemicals; (2) forming a second phase typically containing water as the second solvent, an emulsion stabilizer and optionally a solvent; and (3) passing the first and the second phases through the column to form a “water in oil” type emulsion.

The microporous material may be incorporated into articles and the articles may include one, two or more layers of microporous material.

Abstract: The present invention provides a novel radiosensitizer or anti-cancer chemotherapy sensitizer. In particular, the invention provides a radiosensitizer or anti-cancer chemotherapy sensitizer that can relieve the irritation of an affected area caused by hydrogen peroxide, is safe when injected into a human body, and can delay or reduce the degradation of hydrogen peroxide and thereby can efficiently exert a radiation sensitizing effect and an anti-cancer chemotherapy sensitizing effect. The radiosensitizer or anti-cancer chemotherapy sensitizer comprises a combination of (a) hydrogen peroxide and (b) hyaluronic acid or salt thereof.
Abstract: The present invention is in the field of personal care compositions; in particular skin lightening compositions. A more effective way to reduce melanin content in melanocytes remains to be desired. It has been found that 4-hexylresorcinol in combination with MMP inhibitor galardin synergistically reduces melanin content in melanocytes. The invention thus relates to a composition comprising a synergistic combination of 4-hexylresorcinol and galardin for use in skin lightening. Thus the composition, when applied topically over an appropriate length of time in-vivo, may be used to lighten the skin, or to reduce age spots or freckles.
Abstract: The invention provides a particle comprising a metal oxide which is doped with at least one rare earth element, wherein the metal oxide is selected from titanium dioxide, zinc oxide, cerium oxide and mixtures of two or more thereof. The invention also provides a pharmaceutical composition comprising the particles, and to uses of the particles and composition in the treatment and diagnosis of cancer.

Abstract: The embodiments herein provide a nano-carrier system for delivering a long-acting injectable drug of morphine and a method of synthesising the same. The morphine entrapped nanoparticles are prepared using a lipid/phospholipid core which is coated by a polymer. The lipid and phospholipid are dissolved in organic solvent. This solution is transferred into an aqueous phase consisting of distilled water or a buffer. A solution of polymer is added drop wise. The drug entrapped nanoparticle formation is achieved by diffusion of the organic solvent within the aqueous solvent to obtain the nanoparticles. The drug gets entrapped within the nanoparticles via the anti-solvency effect of the aqueous matrix. The resulting drug nanocarriers are capable of releasing the drug in a slow rate upon injection. The synthesized drug carrying nanoparticles are cryopreserved stored for future administration. For better storage, the nanodispersion is dried to form a powder.
Abstract: An antimicrobial sanitizing composition in the form of a gel or cream containing an alcohol in an amount of at least 55% by weight. The sanitizer is capable of disinfecting a variety of surfaces, including the skin. In addition to alcohol, the sanitizer contains an anionic phospholipid in a controlled concentration as well as components conventionally found in skin creams and gels such as emulsifiers, emollients, moisturizers, rheology modifiers, and neutralizers.

Abstract: The invention relates to polymeric systems for stabilizing, storing and delivering hypohalide salts. One system consists of material coated with two layers: one prepared from polyethylene glycol epoxide and melamine solution and second prepared from inorganic hypohalide salt solution. The material can be fabric, cotton, bamboo, cellulosic materials, blend of cellulosic and synthetic fibers. Antimicrobial materials comprising this system are also described. Another system consists of material containing pre-formed spaces coated with water-polyethylene glycol solution of hypohalide salt and encapsulated by film forming polymer. Hypohalide salts within both systems are in some cases storage stable for at least three months.
