  • Patent number: 8264162
Abstract: A switching circuit includes multiple transistors connected to the primary winding of a transformer, and alternately applies an input voltage and a ground voltage to the primary winding according to the ON/OFF operations of the transistors. Multiple ballast capacitors are respectively provided to multiple fluorescent lamps. One terminal of each ballast capacitor is connected to the secondary winding so as to form a common terminal. The other terminal thereof is connected to the fluorescent lamp. A first capacitor and a second capacitor are arranged in this order in series between an connection node that connects the fluorescent lamp to be monitored and the corresponding ballast capacitor and the ground terminal. An abnormal state judging unit compares the voltage at the connection node that connects the first capacitor and the second capacitor with a predetermined threshold voltage.

  • Patent number: 8247983
Abstract: The present invention provides a lamp driving circuit. When it is used to drive a number of lamps arranged in a hybrid serial-parallel configuration, the lamp driving circuit eliminates the parasitic current in series branch circuits by using an inverse transformer, which makes the current passing each of the lamps in each of the series branch circuits consistent and consequently eliminates the imbalance of each of the lamps.

  • Patent number: 8227996
Abstract: A dimmable LED driver provides accurate full range dimming for LED lighting. The driver utilizes the timing of an AC signal rather than its power output or other characteristics to accurately determine the level of light a user desires. In this manner, the driver provides accurate full range dimming without the need for calibration to specific AC power levels. The driver may detect the period of an AC signal allowing the driver to be used with various frequencies without the need for calibration. In one or more embodiments, the driver compares the pulse widths of a dimmed AC signal to the period of the AC signal to determine the desired light level. The driver may comprise a signal processor and controller in one or more embodiments.

  • Patent number: 8217596
Abstract: A method of avoiding CSR induced beam quality defects in free electron laser operation by a) controlling the rate of compression and b) using a novel means of integrating the compression with the remainder of the transport system: both are accomplished by means of dispersion modulation. A large dispersion is created in the penultimate dipole magnet of the compression region leading to rapid compression; this large dispersion is demagnified and dispersion suppression performed in a final small dipole. As a result, the bunch is short for only a small angular extent of the transport, and the resulting CSR excitation is small.

  • Patent number: 8198827
Abstract: A dimmer switch has a user adjustable high-end trim. The dimmer switch includes a bidirectional semiconductor switch, such as a triac, for controlling the amount of power delivered from a source of alternating current power to a lighting load, such as an electric lamp. A user-adjustable timing circuit controls the conduction time of the triac from a minimum time to a maximum time. The maximum possible conduction time of the triac is the high-end trim. The minimum possible conduction time of the triac is the low-end trim. The timing circuit includes a user-accessible switch that allows a user to reduce the high-end trim from a first nominal level to a second reduced level, lower than the first level, without substantially affecting the low-end trim.
