  • Patent number: 10640697
Abstract: Certain metal surfaces are often unable to be effectively contacted with fluids containing hydrofluoric acid due to significant corrosion issues. Titanium and titanium alloy surfaces represent but one example. Corrosion inhibitor compositions comprising an N-(phosphonoalkyl)iminodiacetic acid or any salt thereof can be used to suppress metal corrosion, including that taking place on titanium and titanium alloy surfaces. Methods for suppressing corrosion of a metal surface can comprise: contacting a metal surface with a corrosive environment, the corrosive environment comprising hydrofluoric acid; introducing a corrosion inhibitor composition to the corrosive environment, the corrosion inhibitor composition comprising an N-(phosphonoalkyl)iminodiacetic acid or any salt thereof; contacting the metal surface with the corrosion inhibitor composition; and allowing the corrosion inhibitor composition to suppress corrosion of the metal surface being contacted by the corrosive environment.

  • Patent number: 10641077
Abstract: An apparatus is directed relative to geomagnetic and gravitational fields of reference while advancing with rotation in a borehole by determining angular position of the apparatus during the rotation and correcting the angular position of the apparatus relative to an offset of a toolface of the apparatus. To do the correction, a magnetic toolface of the apparatus during the rotation is determined based on geomagnetic readings of the apparatus in each of a plurality of divisions of the rotation relative to the geomagnetic field, and a gravitational toolface of the apparatus during the rotation is determined based on gravitational readings of the apparatus in each of the divisions of the rotation relative to the gravitational field. The offset of the toolface is then calculated as a difference between the magnetic toolface and the gravitational toolface. The corrected angular position can then be used in directing the apparatus.

  • Patent number: 10633941
Abstract: Monitoring drill cuttings suspended within a drilling fluid with one or more cuttings detection devices as the drill cuttings traverse one or more shaker screens of a shaker. Drill cuttings data of the drill cuttings is then generated with the one or more cuttings detection devices. Analyzing and processing the drill cuttings data with one or more processors included in a data acquisition system and thereby generating processed drill cuttings data. The processed drill cuttings data is indicative of at least one of a cuttings size distribution and a density of the drill cuttings. One or more operational parameters of the shaker may then be modified based on the processed drill cuttings data.
