  • Patent number: 5192294
Abstract: A surgical tool for cutting an opening in a blood vessel. The tool or punch has pistol-like housing, a blade pusher barrel at the front end thereof and reciprocally movable therein with a trigger for causing forward movement of the blade pusher barrel and a hollow blade drum. The hollow blade drum has a blade at its proximal end, which is inserted therein when an arm of the trigger is moved distally, whereby the blade enters and cuts the opening in the vessel. The barrel also contains a spring, behind the blade drum, which is compressed during the forward movement of the barrel. When cutting the opening the blade and proximal portion of the drum pass over a circular disc at the front of a non-movable punch mandrel contained within the hollow portion of the blade drum, the mandrel disc having been previously inserted into the vessel through an incision therein.

  • Patent number: 5184606
Abstract: A portable device for cardiac massage comprises a portable case 10 having a lid 20, the case is adapted to accommodate an extensible lever 50, one end of which is adapted to be pivotally detachable from one of a variety of positions within the case 10, a contact pad 60 is pivotally secured to the lever 50 to project downwardly from the lever. In use the lid 20 is laid on a flat surface with the case 10 extending substantially vertically and the end of the lever 50 is pivotally attached to a selected position on the case 10. The patient is laid chest upwards on the lid 20 and the contact pad 60 is positioned over the sternum of the patient so that cardiac massage can be applied to the patient by a downward force on the free end 54 of the lever 50. When the device is not in use the lever 50 is stored within the case 10.

  • Patent number: 5147295
Abstract: An implanting gun apparatus (10) is described. A drive rod (23) is linearly moveable in a handle assembly (11) by a first pivotable linkage (16) actuated by a trigger (14), to urge a pellet (101) from a carrier (100) through a head assembly (12) and into a needle (13). A second pivotable linkage (24), also actuated by the trigger, retracts the needle, the head assembly, and the carrier into the handle after the pellet has been urged into the needle. The gun apparatus is particularly adapted to implant pellets in animals, particularly as medicament pellets.

  • Patent number: 5123405
Abstract: A hand held electronic massager with a retractable handle. The handle provides an extension for the unit so that the vibrating surface can reach more remote locations. The massager has a vibrating motor attached to a power cord by an "on/off" switch, all concealed and supported by a housing. The vibrating motor has a vibrating surface at one end of the housing, adapted to massage the muscles of the user when the surface is pressed against the user's skin. At the other end of the housing is an opening that allows a handle to slide in and out of the housing between an extended and a retracted position. The handle is captured by the housing, so that the handle cannot slide completely in or out of the housing.

  • Patent number: 5063939
Abstract: A male contraceptive device includes a resistive heating unit secured in an insulated scrotum sack. The heating unit is linked to a control unit by conductors. The control unit forms part of a carrying case worn at the user's waistline and which contains a power source, on-off switch, low battery indicator, defective element indicator, timer, beeper and telethermometer. The control unit and heating unit produce a significant increase in intrascrotal temperature which creates a suppression of spermatogenesis rendering the person temporarily sterile. The heating unit can be concentrated at the posterior end of the sack for quickly suppressing spermatogenesis in the human epididymis.
