  • Patent number: 8061866
Abstract: An automatic luminous device whose use does not require an external manual switch, which is substituted by another internal automatic switch, which activates the device only when it is placed on a sufficiently dense metal surface, nor does it require a connecting cable to an external power source, which is replaced by a preferably rechargeable battery. It was designed as an emergency light for police vehicles, and as a back-up light and is fitted with a base or casing (1) and a translucent shade (2), which, when coupled together, form a single body. Externally, the base of the casing (1) is fitted with two or more permanent magnets (3) in order to block the said casing (1), when it is placed on a sufficiently dense metal platform (4).

  • Patent number: 8028537
Abstract: Disclosed exemplary solid state light fixtures use optical cavities to combine or integrate light from LEDs or the like. In such a fixture, the cavity is formed by a light transmissive structure having a volume, and a diffuse reflector that covers a contoured portion of the structure. A heat sink member supports a flexible circuit board so as to position the light emitters to couple light to the transmissive structure and provide effective heat dissipation. The circuit board has flexible tabs mounting the emitters. When installed in the fixture, the tabs bend and the emitters press against a sufficiently rigid periphery of the light transmissive structure. TIM may be compressed between the heat sink member and the opposite surface of each tab. Heat conductive surface pads and heat conductors through vias through the tabs conduct heat from the emitters to the heat sink member, e.g. through the TIM.

  • Patent number: 7278756
Abstract: A light-emitting diode (LED) (10) includes a chip body (103), an encapsulation can (105) surrounding the chip body, and a base (106) supporting the encapsulation can and the chip body thereon. Numerous fluorescent particles (1050) are provided in the encapsulation can. With the fluorescent particles, light beams from the chip body are diffused and attain wider irradiation angles. A backlight system (900) includes a light guide plate (20), and a number of the above-described LEDs disposed adjacent to the light guide plate. Light beams having wide irradiation angles are emitted from the LEDs and enter the light guide plate. This enables a light emitting surface of the light guide plate to have highly uniform brightness.

  • Patent number: 7261457
Abstract: A surface light source conversion member, which converts emission light from a light source to planar light, has a predetermined thickness at a part thereof where a light incidence surface of a light guide, which is opposed to the light source, is located. A reflector, which reflects emission light from the light source toward the light incidence surface, includes a clamp portion that clamps the surface light source conversion member in a thickness direction thereof. The clamp portion contacts a corner portion that is formed between a light emission surface of the light guide and the light incidence surface of the light guide and is separated from the light emission surface. The reflector creates a gap, which is smaller than a predetermined thickness, between the light source and the light incidence surface.

  • Patent number: 7237937
Abstract: In a touch panel assembly, the thickness of a touch panel is successfully reduced by using a touch panel 10 provided with no reinforcement member. A housing frame 50 that supports the components of a front light unit 20 in an integral manner is provided with a touch panel positioning mechanism, and the touch panel 10 is fixed to the positioning mechanism, whereby the absence of a reinforcement member is duly compensated for, thus ensuring the strength of the touch panel 10. Deformation of the touch panel 10 that occurs when the touch panel 10 is pressed for operation can be attenuated by a transparent buffer member 5 disposed between the touch panel 10 and a light conductor plate 22. Therefore, the touch panel 10 deformed is prohibited from contacting and damaging the light conductor plate 22, thus preventing the light conductor plate 22 from deteriorating in its functional performance.

  • Patent number: 7229193
Abstract: A backlight unit, suitable for a large sized LCD device, includes a plurality of fluorescent lamps alternately provided under an LCD panel in at least two parts, formed by dividing a light-emitting surface. Adjacent end parts of the fluorescent lamps are overlapped partially. Each fluorescent lamp is shorter than a length (e.g., horizontal dimension) of the light-emitting surface. A reflective plate is provided below the plurality of fluorescent lamps, and has a rugged part underlying the overlapped portion of the fluorescent lamps. Alternatively or in addition, a light-scattering pattern can be provided in a portion of a light-scattering means, over the overlapped portion of the fluorescent lamps. The rugged part and/or light-scattering pattern prevents obscure rays in the overlapped portion and improves a uniformity of luminance of the backlight unit.
