  • Patent number: 9896093
Abstract: A technique is provided in which detection of an impending collision results in the vehicle's control system taking steps to minimize damage to the passenger cabin, thereby increasing passenger safety. In particular, once an object is detected in the vehicle's pathway, the on-board controller determines whether or not a collision with the object (e.g., an on-coming car or a stationary object) is imminent. Once the system determines that a collision is imminent, the controller (i) deactivates the car's anti-lock braking system, (ii) locks-up the wheels, and (iii) rotates the front wheels to minimize intrusion of the wheels into the passenger cabin. The system may be configured to tailor the response to an imminent collision based on (i) vehicle speed, and (ii) probable impact area.

  • Patent number: 9880004
Abstract: A not crossable element (NCE) is marked using a shape on a map. A map data does not prevent a route from crossing the NCE. A closed area is selected on the map, which includes a polygon bound on one side by a portion of the shape. A set of mapping points (MP) that are included in the closed area is selected. A route is formed by connecting one MP to another MP. A subset of MPs is identified as a set of candidate MPs (CMP). Each CMP lies within a search distance of a not-mapping point (NMP). The CMPs are sorted according to CMP-NMP distances. A subset of CMPs is selected whose paths to the NMP do not intersect with any shape corresponding to any NCE in the closed area. The NMP is linked in the route with a selected CMP from the subset of CMPs.

  • Patent number: 9829328
Abstract: A method and apparatus of calculating a route involving a freeway junction determines an undesired freeway junction that can pose a driving difficulty, and performs route recalculation that avoids the undesired freeway junction. A distance from a freeway entry to a freeway junction, or a number of freeway entries up to the freeway junction are used to determine the undesired freeway junction. A distance from the freeway junction to a freeway exit is also used to determine the undesired freeway junction. An intermediate point is set to recalculate a route that does not involve the freeway junction to create an overall route.
