  • Patent number: 8811369
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for supporting multiple modes of communication operation, e.g., with different parameters and/or frequency bands being used in the different modes of operation are described. One or more adjustments are made based on a signal or signals received in a first frequency band from a second communications device, e.g., an access router with reliable timing. The communications device selects between and operates in either the first frequency band, e.g., a WAN frequency band, or in a second frequency band, e.g., a LAN frequency band. The WAN and LAN frequency bands may be non-overlapping. One or more parameters used in the second frequency band have a predetermined relationship to one or more parameters used for communications in the first frequency band making the adjustment based on the signal received in the first frequency band relevant and useful to support communications in the second frequency band.

  • Patent number: 8811225
Abstract: A wireless network system (30, 60) and a method for commissioning a wireless network system (30, 60) is described. The network system (30, 60) comprises at least a network device (1, 1?, 1?) and a joining device (21, 81, 91, 101, 111). In a commissioning mode, the network device (1, 1?, 1?) broadcasts network identification information. The joining device (21, 81, 91, 101, 111) sends, upon reception of the network identification information, a request to said network device (1, 1?, 1?) to join the network, comprising a predefined address of said joining device (21, 81, 91, 101, 111). The network device (1, 1?, 1?) assigns said joining device (21, 81, 91, 101, 111) a network address and stores corresponding data.

  • Patent number: 8780857
Abstract: Described aspects provide for improving the mobility of wireless communication devices between one network domain and another network domain, specifically, but not limited to, between a Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) and a cellular network and the like. Present aspects provide for services to be moved seamlessly and in a reliable manner between the cellular and WLAN domains in order to minimize service disruption for the end user and provide the requisite Quality of Service (QoS) for the different applications. The aspects herein presented provide for various mechanisms that serve to improve the decision points related to when and what technology each service is expected to be associated with and provides better techniques to move the wireless communication device between cellular and WLAN domains when in-traffic and when idle.

  • Patent number: 8750192
Abstract: Multi-user uplink communications within multiple user, multiple access, and/or MIMO wireless communication systems. Within such communication systems, uplink communications from various receiving wireless communication devices (e.g., STAs) to a transmitting wireless communication device (e.g., AP) may occur in any of a number of various dimensions or combinations thereof including MU-MIMO dimension and frequency dimension (asynchronous FDM or synchronous FDM). In accordance with such uplink communications, various considerations such as time synchronization, frequency synchronization, and/or power control (including wireless communication device grouping). When performing uplink asynchronous FDM signaling, power control as grouping is used. When performing uplink synchronous FDM signaling, time synchronization, frequency synchronization, and power control (such as including wireless communication device grouping) is performed.

  • Patent number: 8737349
Abstract: An automatic and network-transparent “handover convenience information support” method for a subscriber of a primary communications process in which an handover takes place—wherein this handover process can comprise arbitrary times prior or after the “actual handover”. “Convenience information support” means that this PTCP-SUBC has not necessarily requested the convenience information, but he nevertheless regards this then unasked-for support as convenient or helpful, such as for example a passenger on a flight regarding associated announcements/references/measures at the departure or arrival airport. As opposed to such often uniform measures the convenience information is as a rule individually configurable by someone affected by it.

  • Patent number: 8737210
Abstract: Presented is a system and methods for routing Stream Control Transmission Protocol (SCTP) between a client and a back-end server by a front-end server operating transparently between the client and the back-end server. The front-end server uses a distribution key created by the front-end server to route the SCTP packets to the proper destination. The distribution key is comprised of a client SCTP port number, a back-end server SCTP port number and a back-end server Initiate-Tag. The front-end server arbitrates clashes between distribution keys of different back-end servers by replacing the back-end server generated SCTP Initiate-Tag with a front-end server generated SCTP Initiate-Tag.

  • Patent number: 8730922
Abstract: Methods and devices are described for use in a wireless communications system supporting uplink transmit diversity. If it is detected that a user equipment is currently in one of a predetermined set of situations, a set of restrictions associated with the detected situation is applied when the user equipment changes pre-coding weights. The set of restrictions limits how much the pre-coding weights can be changed. A user equipment in soft handover may also be restricted to only consider feedback information from a serving base station when selecting pre-coding weights. Thus it is possible to ensure that pre-coding weights are carefully selected in situations where there is a high risk for detrimental interference and/or inferior uplink/downlink performance. A network node may be configured to detect such a situation and notify the user equipment of any restrictions to be applied on the pre-coding weight selection.

  • Patent number: 8725900
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and apparatus for pipelined processing of data. When a data packet containing information is received by a processor operating according to pipelined processing, bits are added to the data packet and an intermediate packet, comprising more bits than the received data packet, is generated. To the intermediate packet is associated information reference, the information reference comprising information regarding the length and position of the information in the intermediate packet. As the intermediate packet is processed, changes to the intermediate packet resulting in changes of the length or the position of the information in the intermediate packet will trigger changes of the information reference. When the intermediate packet exits the processor, superfluous bits are removed.

  • Patent number: 8676972
Abstract: A method and a system for identifying unauthorized accesses to a data network service by a particular node in a data network is disclosed. The NMC communicates with an agent periodically to gather a list of users of the service node. An agent is installed on the service node to monitor all network accesses to the service. By configuring the agent to monitor all access to the service node, through SNMP or a similar protocol, the agent maintains a list of all accesses to that service node. This list is stored internally by the agent and queried for by the NMC periodically. The access information stored by the agent is periodically retrieved by the NMC for all monitored nodes and compared with the authorization list for the node. If unauthorized accesses are found, they are identified by the NMC. These unauthorized accesses can be notified to the appropriate entity in a number of ways such as through paging, email or a report viewable through the NMC.

  • Patent number: 8638666
Abstract: In the method for operating a multi-port bridge for the routing, differentiated in accordance with traffic classes, of data packets which are subdivided into different priority classes in accordance with the IEEE802.1D standard, an additional traffic class “isochronous channel” is introduced. The multi-port bridge is configured in such a manner that at least one predetermined port in the case of unidirectional transmission and at least one predetermined port pair in the case of bidirectional transmission is operated in the “forwarding” state in which the predetermined port or the predetermined port pair forwards data packets of the additional traffic class IC from a queue. During the forwarding, all ports are deactivated with the exception of the predetermined port or port pair. The isochronous data stream is not restricted to one port or port pair but can be executed several times in dependence on the data rate of the transmission channel.
