  • Patent number: 4890359
Abstract: The apparatus monitors lap formation at a pair of rolls guiding a slubbing or sliver in a drafting arrangement for spinning machines. In the event of a lap or coil forming, for example, on a pressure roll, a piston rod of a piston is shifted away until a switching element touches a contact edge or region of a switching sleeve. A cylinder housing encircling the switching sleeve and otherwise electrically separated from the piston is thus short-circuited with the piston. Since the switching sleeve and piston are separately connected to a control unit, a switching function is effected in the control unit by this short-circuit and the drafting arrangement is thereby stopped. The switching sleeve is slidably guided on a guide rod mounted at an upper part in such a manner that the frictional resistance is greater than the weight of the switching sleeve.

  • Patent number: 4882812
Abstract: A method of manufacturing an opening roller assembly for an opening roller of an open-end spinning machine is provided. A hardened cylindrical sleeve made of a hardenable steel alloy has at least one circumferential groove formed in an outer cylindrical surface. After forming the at least one circumferential groove, the cylindrical sleeve includes a remaining wall section having a thickness no greater than 2.2 mm extending from the base of the cylindrical groove to an inner surface of the cylindrical sleeve. circumferential ribs are formed when the circumferential grooves are formed. The ribs have a base thickness of no greater than 0.7 mm. The sleeve wall radial thickness is about 0.06-0.72 times the height of the circumferential ribs. The circumferential groove base width is about 2.5 to 3.5 times the base thickness of the circumferential ribs.

  • Patent number: 4876769
Abstract: The fiber processing installation monitors the operation of a discontinuously operating stop/go stage to obtain an actual value signal corresponding to the ratio of operative time to inoperative time as well as the total production of a continuously operating downstream stage, such as a card room, to establish a set value signal. A deviation of the actual value from the set value provides a control signal to adjust the ratio of operative time to inoperative time of the upstream stage so as to maintain the total production of the installation constant.

  • Patent number: 4871200
Abstract: A fixture for facilitating the tying of a given knot in a fishing line comprises a platform member providing a flat surface for mounting a plurality of assemblies. These assemblies include a spool assembly having a spool for respectively taking up or letting out line, a spool crank for rotating the spool in at least one direction, a spool frame for mounting the spool for rotation about a first axis of rotation, and a spool frame base for mounting the spool frame to the platform. A spinner assembly comprises a spinner base mounted to the platform and a spinner bidirectionally freely rotatably mounted to the spinner base for rotation about a second axis of rotation.

  • Patent number: 4860405
Abstract: An apparatus for drying material transported in a fluid stream including a nozzle borne in the described embodiment by a suction tube of a cotton gin and defining an air channel which is operable to direct a stream of heated air to the intake end of the nozzle; a fan and a conduit are mounted in fluid transferring relation with the nozzle and are operable to deliver air to the nozzle; and a heater borne by the conduit is adapted to impart heat energy to the air passing therethrough, the heated air discharged by the nozzle adapted to dry the cotton drawn into the suction tube thereby decreasing the moisture content thereof and facilitating the removal of trash therefrom.

  • Patent number: 4860407
Abstract: A device for blending different fibres in a desired ratio to make envelopes for drain pipes has at least two pressure passages in a parallel relation, with a small space therebetween. Different fibres are introduced into the first ends of each pressure passage by a conveying fan outlet, and the fibres so introduced build up in each pressure passage into material columns of homogeneously compressed fibres. Each pressure passage has at least one exit port for venting pressurized air in front of its column. Conveyors are provided at the second ends of the pressure passages to feed the compressed fibres into a longitudinal opening in one side of a stationary drum which extends over the width of the second ends of the pressure passages. A pin-feed drum is rotatably arranged within the stationary drum and is driven to convey the compressed fibres to a common suction passage on the other side of the stationary drum, which in turn is connected to a suction tube.

  • Patent number: 4852218
Abstract: A process and apparatus for automatically changing drums which are to receive wicks which are delivered by textile machines. The apparatus includes a translationally movable table. A means for gripping and pulling a wick in a second opposite direction and a means for gripping and severing a pulled wick are provided. At least a portion of both of these means are carried on the table. Positioned thusly, when the table moves in a first direction, that is opposite to the second direction. The table passes under a feeding head that distributes the wick, such that the wick is received on the table and on both of these means. In second position, the one means grips the wick and pulls it in the second opposite direction. Simultaneously, the other means grips and severs the pulled wick. The one means then advances and guides the wick into a drum being filled by the feeding head. Means is also provided for moving the drums in the first direction concomitantly with the movement of the table.

  • Patent number: 4837866
Abstract: A shock attenuation tension mounting for connecting a face guard to a helmet wherein a pair of looped straps are provided on each side of the helmet. Each pair of looped straps includes an inner relatively stretchable looped strap enclosing a wire segment of the face guard, and an outer, relatively stiff looped strap enclosing the inner loop. The inner looped strap allows controlled movement of the face guard toward the helmet with increasing resistance force for shock attenuation, and the outer strap limits the movement of the face guard toward the helmet, the amount of movement being controlled by the selection of relative loop lengths of the outer and inner straps.
