  • Patent number: 4869631
Abstract: An expansion dowel assembly includes an expansion sleeve, an expanding member and a bolt for pulling the expanding member into the expansion sleeve. The expansion sleeve has a leading end and a trailing end with a bore extending between its two ends. At the leading end, the bore is conically shaped and converges toward the trailing end. From the trailing end of the conically shaped section, the bore is cylindrically shaped and extends toward the trailing end to another smaller diameter cylindrically shaped section of the bore. At the transition between the two cylindrically shaped sections there is a stop shoulder which limits the pulling-in action of the expanding member and the radial widening of the expansion sleeve.

  • Patent number: 4866960
Abstract: A device for protecting a padlock from tampering. The device consists of two separate plate sections which wrap around respective posts of a gate to be padlocked and are secured onto the posts via nut and bolt assemblies. Extending outwardly on the front of each plate section is a semicircular shield which, when the two plates are brought together, will meet the shield on the companion plate and encircle the padlock. On the back side of one plate section is a housing which is also secured to the plate section via a nut and bolt assembly and which receives the shackle of a padlock. To lock the gate (or other similar opening), the padlock shackle is passed through an opening in the plate section, into the housing, and through an opening in the companion plate section. An alternative form of the invention utilizes hinged latch plates secured to the flat portion of a solid door instead of the plate sections of the former embodiment.

  • Patent number: 4864835
Abstract: A door latch and lock mechanism especially for storm doors and screen doors, having a latch and a lock bolt. The latch can be retracted from the outside by a button which pushes a plunger in a lengthwise direction. When the plunger is rotated in one direction it will lock the latch in the latched position and also extend the locking bolt to its locked position. When the plunger is rotated in the opposite direction, the latch is released and the bolt is retracted. The plunger is rotated in one direction or the other from the outside of the door by a key operated mechanism spaced from the push button and operatively connected to the plunger by connecting links.

  • Patent number: 4861207
Abstract: A barrel nut fastener apparatus that includes a nut loosely retained in a prescribed position by a retainer that is adapted to be slidably received in a cylindrical bore formed in a panel. The nut is carried loosely on a seat formed in the retainer and is positioned to threadedly receive a bolt projecting through aligned transverse holes in both the panel and the retainer. The nut and seat have conforming cross-shaped configurations such that the compressive force of their engagement is distributed over a relatively large area, thereby substantially reducing the possibility of the nut being deformed if the bolt is overtightened.

  • Patent number: 4850207
Abstract: A cable unit includes a cable with a cable eye on one end. A lock body of a lock has a through-passage through which the cable extends and a pin recess extending parallel to the through-passage. The one end of the cable is bent back to the lock to form the eye. The locking pin is secured to the cable and releasably secured in the pin recess. A closed cable eye is fully secured to the opposite end of the cable. A flexible protective sheath covers the cable to the opposite sides of the lock. The through-passage diameter is slightly larger than the cable and smaller than the sheath. A lock recess in the body extends parallel to the through-passage with a key lock cylinder located in such recess. The body side including the lock recess is a flat plane which extends perpendicular to the lock cylinder axis and extends over the opening of the through-passage as an inclined plane at a selected angle to the cylinder axis.

  • Patent number: 4848112
Abstract: A lockable rotary attachment device including an axially threaded attachment member having an externally splined drive head and a flange defining oppositely facing annular shoulders, and a knob mounted for axial translation on the attachment member between first and second axial positions on the attachment member. The knob is freely rotatable relative to the attachment member in the first axial position and has an internally splined socket for non-rotatably receiving the drive head when in the second axial position. A lock is mounted on the knob for moving a latch member between a first latch position in which it is disposed outwardly of the flange on the attachment member to allow axial translation of the knob between the first and second axial positions, and a second latch position disposed radially inwardly of the flange for engagement with the first shoulder when the knob is in its first axial position and for engagement with the second shoulder when the knob is in its second axial position.

  • Patent number: 4846612
Abstract: A fastener designed to be securerd into a hole in an aircraft panel can be manufactured from an integral engineering thermoplastic structure which includes a centrally located cylindrical body carrying flanges at its ends. One of these flanges has diametrically opposed notches leading through it. Ribs are located on the flanges so that when the fastener is within a hole in a panel and a fluid resin composition is forced in to one of the notches the flow is divided into two separate streams, each of which flows in a labyrinth-like manner in reaching the other notch.

  • Patent number: 4842461
Abstract: An anchoring bolt including an expansion sleeve and an expander member insertable into the sleeve to expand the latter. The anchoring bolt has an inner thread at the end which faces the end face of the wall of the supporting structure to which an object is to be fastened by the anchoring bolt. A removable spacer is inserted into the borehole of the supporting structure after the anchoring bolt and is engaged with the inner thread thereof so as to determine a distance between the end of the inserted anchoring bolt and the end face of the supporting structure. This distance corresponds to the distance that the expander member is to be drawn into the expansion sleeve.

  • Patent number: 4840522
Abstract: A synthetic resin rivet comprises a rivet body having a hollow cylindrical portion and an integral flange portion extending radially outwardly from the upper end of the cylindrical portion and a pin for radially expanding the cylindrical portion of the rivet body when inserted thereinto. The rivet body has a double-layer structure constituted by two different synthetic resins, one relatively hard and the other relatively soft. At least an outer layer of the cylindrical portion and a cap layer closing an end opening of the cylindrical portion is fabricated from the soft synthetic resin so as to provide reliably effective annular sealing defined between the cylindrical portion of the rivet and the interior peripheral surfaces of the holes defined within panels within which the rivet is to be disposed.

  • Patent number: 4836729
Abstract: An anchoring unit is made up of a screen-type sleeve and an insert sleeve to be placed into the screen-type sleeve. The unit is anchored by a hardenable mass. After the screen-type sleeve is inserted into a borehole in a structure with internal open spaces, the hardenable mass is injected into the screen-type sleeve. When the insert sleeve is placed into the screen-type sleeve, the hardenable mass is forced outwardy through openings in the screen-type sleeve into the open spaces in the structure. The two sleeves each have an inside surface and an outside surface with alternating projecting surfaces and recessed surfaces to facilitate a positive lock with the hardenable mass. Further, the alternating surfaces improve the distribution of the hardenable mass. Preferably, the two sleeves are formed of a plastics material. A fastening element can be inserted into the insert sleeve for securing an object to the structure.

  • Patent number: 4826380
Abstract: A pre-cast dome-like shell is loaded with a predetermined amount of curable sealant. The sealant and dome are similar in composition. The dome is pressed over the exposed end of a fastener. An elastic portion of the shell can expand, thereby increasing the internal volume of the shell to accommodate small variations in sealant amount. A close fit between the shell and fastener, combined with an adequate shell wall, insure proper shell orientation and barrier thickness.
