  • Patent number: 5129868
Abstract: A quick-return motion mechanism for use in an automatic magnetic drilling machine including a feed motor for generating power transferred through a worm wheel and a high-ratio reduction gear to a handle shaft to drive an electric drill. A one-way clutch is provided inside the worm wheel so that the handle shaft races on feed and is locked on return. The high-ration reduction gear is composed of elements which are arranged to cause the input and output sides of the high-ratio reduction gear to rotate in the same direction. The quick-return motion mechanism consists of an arrangement for restraining the input side element of the high-ratio reduction gear on feed and for releasing it on return to race the high-ratio reduction gear.

  • Patent number: 5111714
Abstract: A torsional damper type flywheel device including a drive side flywheel, a driven side flywheel rotatable relative to the drive side flywheel, at least one kind of spring mechanism connected between the drive side and driven side flywheels, and a friction mechanism arranged in series with the spring mechanism. An inertial plate is fastened to the drive side flywheel so as to construct one portion of the drive side flywheel so that a mass center of the drive side flywheel is shifted to an engine side to prevent the drive side flywheel from being deformed to an engine side when rotated at high speeds. Further, the engine side drive plate is bent at its radially intermediate portion so that a radially outer portion of the drive plate approaches the axial center of the drive side flywheel. As a result, an axial increase in width of the flywheel device due to the provision of the inertial plate is minimized.

  • Patent number: 5108353
Abstract: A gear differential includes planetary gear sets made up of two side gears (26, 28) mounted for rotation about a common axis (24) and pairs of element gears (36, 38) mounted for rotation about respective parallel axes (48, 50) that are both offset and inclined through acute shaft angles (L.sub.1, L.sub.2) with respect to the common side gear axis (24). The two element gears (36, 38) have first gear portions (52, 54) that mesh with respective side gears (26, 28) and second gear portions (56, 58) that mesh with each other. The side gears (26, 28) have respective helix angles (A.sub.1, A.sub.2) that are substantially equal in absolute magnitude but opposite in hand. However, lead angles of the side gears (26, 28), as the complements of their respective helix angles (A.sub.1, A.sub.2), are larger than the shaft angles to provide opposite directions of relative rotation between the side gears.
