  • Patent number: 6481203
Abstract: A variable speed transmission including a rotatable input member, a fluid pump operatively engaged with the input member, a fluid in the pump being pumped in response to rotation of the input member, and a fluid motor in fluid communication with the fluid pump, fluid pumped by the pump being received by the fluid motor, the fluid motor being driven by fluid received by the fluid motor and having a variable output speed. Means are provided for selectively varying the displacement of the fluid pump or the fluid motor, whereby the output speed of the fluid motor is varied. A rotatable output member is operatively engaged with the fluid motor, and a reversible electric motor having an output shaft is provided, the output shaft having varying angular positions. The output shaft is in mechanical engagement with the displacement varying means, and the displacement of the one of the fluid pump and the fluid motor being varied in response to changes in the output shaft angular position.

  • Patent number: 5345337
Abstract: Optimized design forms are provided for glass-liquid lens triplets for use as telescope objectives having reduced secondary spectrum. Each lens triplet comprises an abnormal-dispersion liquid lens element contained between two normal-dispersion glass lens elements. The glass lens elements are made of readily available and relatively inexpensive optical glasses. The liquid lens element in each lens triplet consists of a commercially available viscous supercooled liquid of abnormal dispersion, which is transparent to optical radiation at visible wavelengths without freezing at temperatures in a range from about -50.degree. C. to about 50.degree. C.

  • Patent number: 5193980
Abstract: A hollow turbine blade equipped with a cooling system comprises a pair of internal partitions connected to the intrados and extrados walls of the blade and dividing the interior of the blade into at least one internal cavity extending from the root end to the tip end of the blade, a median partition connected to the two internal partitions to divide the cavity defined between the two internal partitions into two half-cavities, the median partition leaving an aperture at or near one end of the blade to establish communication between the two half-cavities, air inlet holes opening into the half-cavity on the intrados side of the median partition at or near the other end of the blade, air flow disturbing regions disposed on at least part of the internal face of the intrados wall opposite the median partition, and air outlet holes provided in the extrados wall opposite the median partition.

  • Patent number: 5193342
Abstract: A hydraulic circuit for controlling the speed of multiple hydraulic fluid power devices when the flow demand of the devices exceeds the flow capacity of a pressure source supplying hydraulic fluid under pressure to the devices has multiple pressure controlled proportional flow supply valves for controlling the supply of hydraulic fluid to the power devices. Load sense pressures which indicate the pressure delivered by the valves to the corresponding devices are compared to determined the highest load sense pressure, which is compared to the supply pressure by a proportional speed sensing valve to regulate the pilot pressure. In the preferred embodiment, the pilot pressure is regulated by the proportional speed sensing valve to be equal to the differential between the supply pressure and the highest load sense pressure, and a limit control is provided in one form of the proportional speed sensing valve.

  • Patent number: 4898075
Abstract: An indexing mechanism comprising a member adapted to be advanced a predetermined amount and along a predetermined path, a pair of spaced drivers, and a control valve for operating the drivers in an alternative manner. The member adapted to be advanced defines a profile surface including a plurality of spaced radial segments. Each radial segment includes a crown section which is joined to an adjacent crown section by two oppositely directed ramps defining a fillet radius therebetween. The spacing between the drivers being such that when one driver is urged against a crown section the other driver acts against a fillet radius. The drivers are operated by the control valve 180.degree. out of phase relative to each other. A driver, after moving off a crown section, coacts with ramp to impart a driving force to the member. The driving force being sufficient to move the member in an indexed fashion the predetermined amount of its movement.
