  • Patent number: 8196500
Abstract: A stitch flap cutting block is mountable to a cutting head of a board blank cutting machine, along with a slotting knife. A sheet of board passed between the cutting head and an anvil head is cut to form a blank for a box or the like. The cutting block comprises a steel body with a cylindrical barrel holding a cylindrical spring block, to which is mounted a blade holder carrying an elongate blade. The blade moves within a transverse slot across the body and is deflectable into the body and may rock about a midpoint of the slot. Impact forces are reduced, cleaner cuts are produced, and re-setting of the blade is required much less often. An alternative stitch flap cutting block is mountable to the cutting head by a separate side arm, facilitating mounting to cutting heads having different diameters.

  • Patent number: 8191453
Abstract: A specimen slicing guide for use in slicing a biopsy specimen taken from a human patient or an animal patient includes a base extending in a longitudinal direction. A plurality of needles extends substantially perpendicularly to the base and the needles are spaced along the longitudinal direction of the base. Two specimen slicing guides are coupled via at least one link, which is adapted to allow an adjustable spacing of the two specimen slicing guides in a parallel relationship. A method of cutting a biopsy specimen includes fixing the biopsy specimen relative to a support surface using the needles of two, parallel-arranged specimen slicing guides, inserting a cutting tool between corresponding needle gap pairs and then downwardly moving the cutting tool under guidance of adjacent needles.

  • Patent number: 8166859
Abstract: Methods, systems and components for paper trimmers cut paper placed on a planar base using a blade that is moved transversely across the paper. A recessed cutting track containing a desired cutting pattern is inserted into the planar base and a counterpart guide track suspended thereover. A blade assembly is inserted through a channel in the guide track with the cutting blade residing in the counterpart channel in the cutting track. Material to be trimmed is placed between the recessed cutting track and the guide track. As the blade assembly is directed along the length of the counterpart channels, guides on the blade assembly interact with the channel and cause the cutting blade to rotate, cutting along the path of the channel. Desired cuts are made by selecting appropriate interchangeable cutting tracks and counterpart guide tracks.
