  • Patent number: 6070944
Abstract: A boom mounted cutter drum assembly of a continuous mining machine includes a center drum section, a pair of intermediate drum sections, and a pair of end drum sections. Spray nozzles on the cutting elements of the cutter drum assembly phasingly direct liquid spray at the mine face as mine material is dislodged to suppress dust and frictional ignition. Liquid for the spray nozzles is supplied on the mining machine through stationary annular housings positioned between the intermediate drum sections and the end drum sections. Water is conveyed through passageways in the annular housings to corresponding passageways in a sealing and valving assembly located in the end drum sections having stationary and rotating components. The gear case is surrounded on one side by a cat seal and on the other side by a lip seal to prevent liquid leakage from flowing into the gear case.

  • Patent number: 6070677
Abstract: An apparatus for enhancing production from a wellbore hole may include a body member having at least one cutting assembly. Each cutting assembly may have an upper, middle, and lower cutting arm. The cutting arms are hingedly connected to one another. An upper end of each upper cutting arm is hingedly connected to the body member. A lower end of each lower cutting arm is hingedly connected to a corresponding beveled attachment that is slidably received within a corresponding beveled groove in the body member. The body member includes an interior longitudinal bore in fluid communication with a jet nozzle that is located beneath each cutting assembly. The apparatus is connected to a drill string. As the drill string is rotated, each cutting assembly is moved to a fully-deployed position under centrifugal force, thereby enlarging the wellbore hole. Drilling fluid may be pumped into the apparatus to generate hydraulic power to carry loose cuttings to the surface.

  • Patent number: 6068425
Abstract: A method and apparatus for raising concrete members and maintaining the members in a raised position. The method and apparatus may be utilized for raising or leveling flat slabs such as sidewalk sections, driveways and patios or for raising sunken sections of curbs and gutters, and the apparatus includes a portable mud pump to provide grout or mud under the raised members for maintaining same in the raised position. The method is carried out by attaching the sunken member to an apparatus including one or more lifting jacks, raising the member by the jacks, and at least partially filling the cavity under the member with a grout or mud. The portable mud pump, which includes a limit switch controlled double-acting air driven piston, is connected to a mud or grout supply (tank) having a check valve, and withdraws mud from the tank during an intake stroke and forces the mud, during a power or output stroke, into a cavity under a raised concrete member.

  • Patent number: 6065544
Abstract: A system for relieving pressurized fluid entrapped in a annular space between a casing (12) and the surrounding wall (11) of a well bore hole (10) during deployment of a packer exterior (14) of the casing (12) for sealing engagement with the wall (11). When packer (14) is inflated in a zone (17) where fluid is entrapped, such as an intermediate packer between two previously inflated packers (13, 14), the squeeze pressure developed by the inflating packer (14) has been found to be sufficient to prevent effective and lasting sealing of the intermediate packer (14). The present system includes a valve mechanism (35) which is activated by the pressurized fluid providing for inflating the packer (14) to open a passageway (90, 94, 91) to bleed the entrapped fluid into the casing (12) and to then close the passageway (90, 94, 91) as inflation of the intermediate packer (14) is completed.

  • Patent number: 6062769
Abstract: A riser arrangement increases the stability and/or decreases sensitivity to vortex induced vibration of risers of a riser system including steel tubular lines, SCRIBS and flexible hose risers leading to a floating storage/production vessel. A cross-link is placed between two or more steel tubular lines in order to enhance the stability of the riser system. Devices are coupled to the steel tubular lines for increasing their tension in order to increase the natural frequency of vibration in order to reduce sensitivity to vortex induced vibration.

  • Patent number: 6062770
Abstract: A method for underpinning a building comprises arranging at least one elongated supporting element below and substantially parallel to the foundation of the building. A whole side wall of the building may thus be underpinned in a single operation without unnecessarily weakening the existing underground. By coupling a plurality of elongated supporting elements, a kind of large-surface foundation that securely supports the building can be created. The architectonic substance of very old buildings may thus be preserved in a non-aggressive manner. In addition, the underpinning method can be carried out very quickly and at a relatively low cost.

  • Patent number: 6061859
Abstract: A self releasing hold-down device for a dock leveler having a ramp mounted for pivotal movement about a hinge axis between a stored position and a working position includes an elongates ratchet bar engageable with a pawl mounted on a body connected to a rod which is anchored at one end to the leveler frame. One end of the rod includes a retainer and release pin member mounted thereon and whose position is adjustable by a nut threadedly engaged with the rod. A coil spring is sleeved over the rod and engageable with the retainer and release pin member. The body includes an elongated tube journalling the coil spring and a portion forming a recess for supporting the pawl. A release actuator is pivotally mounted on the body and is engageable by release pins on the retainer and release pin member in response to forces acting on the ramp to effect momentary release of the hold-down device. • Patent number: 6062767
Abstract: A storm water receptor having at least one inlet and an outlet positioned at a discharge level lower than the level of the intake provided with a novel, removable divider which divides the receptor into an upper chamber and a lower chamber, having a float-actuated trap door that permits water entering the upper chamber of the catch basin or field inlet to be diverted and flow into the lower chamber until the lower chamber is filled with liquid, at which point the entrance into the lower chamber closes, and water entering the upper chamber passes directly out of the upper chamber through the discharge pipe. In an alternative embodiment of the invention, the float-activated trap door can be replaced with a stationary, removable plate or ramp.
