Abstract: A method and apparatus for sterilizing access sites such as attachment points for various therapeutic and diagnostic medical devices. More particularly, the invention concerns a sterilization apparatus which includes a substantially UV-C transparent closure cap for closing the access site and a compact, easy to use irradiating apparatus for controllably irradiating the closure cap with UV-C radiation.
Abstract: A C-Band Disinfector disinfects objects placed within the interior of the device by subjecting the objects to emissions of UV-C radiation. Multiple UV-C sensors measure UV-C radiation dosage to the objects and control the period of operation of the device, terminating the emission of UV-C radiation only after all of the UV-C radiation sensors have received a minimum predetermined dosage.

Abstract: A urinary catheter clip-on device applies surface acoustic waves of Rayleigh-Lamb and/or Love type to a urinary catheter for preventing biofilms on the catheter surfaces. The bacteria is forced to move relative to the vibrating catheter surface. The amplitudes of bacteria vibrations are in nanometer range. The relative motion of bacteria results in bacteria quorum sensing, and disrupts the bacteria attachment process. The method is preventive as surface acoustic waves create low acoustic energy and bacteria is not killed.
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for decellularising allogenic and xenogenic foreign material for the subsequent production of bioprostheses, coated with endogenous body cells, whereby the foreign material is firstly treated in a solution of bile acid and then alcohol, each with an intermediate or subsequent rinsing step, in combination with a mechanical action on the tissue and the cells by the force generated from a flowing treatment medium, at least in the final rinsing step. After said treatment the tissue is completely rid of foreign cell material and viruses and represents an excellent starting material for the coating with cells of the bioprosthesis recipient.

A heated fluid is provided to the confined volume from an external heater.
Abstract: A device for disinfecting a head of a stethoscope has a receiver adapted to hold a supply of disinfecting agent. A dispenser that is mounted to reciprocate relative to the receiver has a receptacle for receiving the head of the stethoscope. The dispenser can communicate with the supply of disinfecting agent and deliver its disinfecting agent to the receptacle. By pressing the head of the stethoscope against the dispenser, disinfecting agent will pass from the receiver through the dispenser and onto the head of the stethoscope.
Abstract: A brine tank provides a supply of brine to a commercial water softening system that is located remotely from the brine tank. Fresh water is delivered into the brine tank through a central header pipe from which a plurality of perforated risers extends laterally to both sides of the central header pipe. The perforated risers are located beneath the inlet opening for the delivery of loose salt, yet spaced from the brine pump so that a uniform salt concentration will be attained in the brine before being pumped to the water softener. The inlet opening for the delivery of loose salt is provided with a double leaf hatch cover to provide a receiving opening that is larger than the inlet opening into the brine tank so that loose salt can be funneled into the brine tank without significant spillage on the ground.
Abstract: A device and method provide an aerosol germicide to a device having a lumen within a container. The container is divided into at least two compartments by an interface across which extends the lumen device, with one end of the lumen in one compartment and another end of the lumen in another compartment. A pressure differential can be used to flow the germicide through the lumen.
Abstract: A consolidated vacuum sublimation module (VSM) can comprise an upper body portion, a middle body portion, a lower body portion, a bushing, and a seal. A vapor director cartridge can be loaded with a crude material and manually inserted into a cartridge-holding member of the lower body portion. Assembly of the middle and upper body portions form a structural unit that can compressively and sealably connect to the lower body portion. During sublimation, heat is effectively transferred to the lower body portion that contains the crude material. A substantial fraction of the middle body portion is conically tapered about a central longitudinal axis to promote desublimation. The middle body portion is a unitary structure that consolidates valving, cooling, and desublimation functions.
Abstract: A medical swab pouch is disclosed. The inexpensive elastic pouch contains disinfectant and is configured for protecting and swabbing a wide variety of luer systems to prevent and eliminate bacterial contamination. The pouch has a flattened configuration and can be elastically dilated, as by squeezing the pouch between the thumb and index finger and is readily carried in large numbers in nurse's pockets (in a manner similar to that for conventional alcohol swabs). The pouch covers and protects the luer valve at the discretion of the user and without transmission of torsion or longitudinal force which might loosen the luer valve or otherwise be transmitted to the vein.
Abstract: A medical fluid machine, such as a dialysis machine, includes a pump that pumps a medical fluid and sterile water or other disinfecting liquid, such as ozonated water, for flushing and reconditioning the medical fluid machine. The machine may also include a heater that heats the medical fluid or disinfecting solution in order to kill bacteria and other microorganisms that may contaminate the machine after use. Disinfecting the machine, and a disposable kit used with the machine, may allow re-use of the disposable within a reasonable amount of time after completion of the disinfecting procedure. Dialysate treated with ultra-violet light or water with low concentrations of ozone also helps make the disposable kits suitable for reuse.
