  • Patent number: 6142716
Abstract: A cutting insert for milling comprises two major sides, two minor sides, and upper and lower sides. At least one pair of cutting edges is formed at the transition of the upper side with a major side and a minor side of the cutting insert. The upper side constitutes a chip surface, and the major and minor sides constitute clearance surfaces. Each pair of cutting edges comprises a major cutting edge extending along the major side, and a minor cutting edge extending along the minor side. The major and minor cutting edges intersect in the area of a cutting corner. The cutting corner is provided inside an imaginary extension line of a major part of the minor side. The major cutting edge slopes such that it forms an acute angle with the lower side. Each pair of cutting edges joins a first clearance surface protruding relative to a plane containing a major portion of the minor and major sides. Recesses are formed in the major sides.

  • Patent number: 6142044
Abstract: A system is provided for trimming excess vinyl film from a hoop assembly. The hoop assembly may be used to manufacture semiconductor workpieces. The system uses a pressure applying member applied to the excess film with a bearing surface sufficient to receive such pressure on the opposite side of the excess film. The system may be rotated such that the film is trimmed around the entire hoop assembly at the position of the pressure applying member. The bearing surface may be part of the support for the system or incorporated into the hoops.

  • Patent number: 6135682
Abstract: A multiple-spindle machine includes a support and a number of spindles rotatably mounted to the support. Each of the spindles is operably connected and in driving relationship to a respective one of a like number of cutters, each of the cutters having two or more cutting edges. Each spindle is operably connected to an individually controllable electric motor. A controlling device controls the speed of each electric motor and the angular position of its associated spindle. A phase control device adjusts the speed and the angular position of each of the spindles such that the cutting edges of each of the cutters are out of phase with each of the cutting edges of others of the cutters during operation of the multiple-spindle machine. Angular position and speed detecting devices are used for detecting angular positions and speeds of each of the spindles. The angular position and speed detecting devices are in signal transmitting relationship with the phase control device.

  • Patent number: 6122824
Abstract: Fluid compressor or expander having a main rotor with discrete arched-helical flutes that have ruled surface roots that match the predominantly planar tips of the teeth of the associated gate rotors and provide effective fluid sealing as the gate rotor teeth sweep through the flutes of the main rotor during compressor or expander operation. The flutes can be readily and economically made by end milling, in which a first flute is milled with a minimized number of milling passes such as a first pass to make one arched-helical flank and a portion of the arcked-helical root of a first flute and a second pass to make the opposing arcked-helical flank and another portion of the arched-helical root of the first flute. Additional discrete flutes are made in a similar manner until the main rotor is completed.

  • Patent number: 6099209
Abstract: A cutting tool has a compressing segment for imparting a compressive force to produce a non-porous surface layer on a workpiece of porous material. The cutting tool also has a cutting segment to machine the non-porous surface layer for a desired surface finish. Furthermore, a method for machining a workpiece using such a cutting tool may be implemented to produce a non-porous surface layer on a workpiece of porous material and then to produce a desired surface finish.

  • Patent number: 6079916
Abstract: A rotary power tool incorporates a remotely actuated chuck device. An engagement surface, such as a threaded or helical surface, is defined on an outer circumference of the chuck device over an axial length thereof. An actuator member is disposed concentric and rotatable relative to the engagement surface. In an actuation mode, the actuation member is brought into engagement with the engagement surface so that rotation of the actuator member drives the chuck device axially between gripping and release positions.

  • Patent number: 6045306
Abstract: A rotary power tool is provided having a remotely actuated chuck device. The chuck is mounted onto the end of a drive spindle that extends from the casing of the power tool. The chuck includes an outer sleeve member that is axially movable relative to a drive spindle between a gripping and release position. A sleeve actuating device is provided having a first member engaged with the outer sleeve member and which extends generally radially outward from the drive spindle or chuck. The first member is movable in a direction so as to move the outer sleeve member between the gripping position and release position. The sleeve actuating device includes an actuator member configured with the first member to move the first member upon an external force being applied thereto. A base is rotatably advanceable and concentric on the casing. A helical opening is formed in the base.
