Patent number: 4426822Abstract: In a ceiling assembly, a parallel array of horizontally elongated panels each having vertical major surfaces and a horizontal top flange and a plurality of spaced parallel horizontally elongated stringers extending above and transversely of the panels for supporting the panels, the stringers having horizontal flanges formed with slots in which the top edge portions of the panels are received. The slots are shaped to provide, in the stringer flanges, pairs of facing spring tabs to facilitate insertion of the top portions of the panels in the slots and to interlock with the panel top flanges.Type: GrantFiled: November 1, 1982Date of Patent: January 24, 1984Assignee: Alcan Aluminum CorporationInventor: J. Patent number: 4400919Abstract: A continuous skirt for surrounding an elevated building to close the space therebeneath is provided with a series of releasably interconnected panels wherein the interlocks therebetween are, in turn, provided with elongated, upstanding stays capable of rendering the interconnections rigid. The stays operate to present guides or tracks for restraining the panels to vertical reciprocation as the result of changes in the contour of the ground arising from expansion and contraction and also to resist lateral movement of the panels under blowing wind conditions. In each of the embodiments, structure is provided for precluding the panels from gouging into the side of the building and thereby failing to rise properly as needed, all of the improvements being directed toward avoidance of cracking, breakage or other damage to the skirt.Type: GrantFiled: April 17, 1981Date of Patent: August 30, 1983Assignee: Variform Plastics, Inc.Inventors: Robert J. Szabo, Garfield W. Stovin

Patent number: 4386487Abstract: A segmented apparatus is mounted to a tower or other vertically extending structure on a plurality of spaced supporting members such as I-beams or the like. Each apparatus segments is mounted on a pair of supporting members such that the weight of the segment loads the supporting members either through or proximal to the shear center thereof for minimization of supporting member torsional loading.Type: GrantFiled: June 8, 1981Date of Patent: June 7, 1983Assignee: United Technologies CorporationInventor: Peder W. Patent number: 4373305Abstract: An arch forming structure comprising a flexible arch forming member centerpiece with hinged pairs of struts attached by hinges to each side. The hinged pairs of struts are hingedly attached to a base and collapse inwardly beneath the flexible member. Two tension line lengths are used to snap the hinged pairs of struts from the collapsed condition through dead center to an outwardly sloping position from which further movement is prevented by their central hinge. Two further tension line lengths are jointed to central portions of the hinged pairs of strut members and threaded through eye bolts on the underside of the flexible member and are tensioned by outward movement of the hinged pairs of struts to bend the flexible member into an arch.Type: GrantFiled: February 6, 1981Date of Patent: February 15, 1983Assignee: Canadian Patents & Development LimitedInventor: Leslie T. Russell

Patent number: 4365452Abstract: A loading dock canopy comprising a frame having a top, opposite sides, an inner face, an outer face, and a center access opening adapted to be aligned with the loading access opening of the loading dock. The frame is of resilient construction to permit deflection thereof, and an elastic material covers at least the top of the frame, with suitable covering material extending over the sides thereof. Inner and outer vertical members comprise the sides of said frame. Spring means extend therebetween to hold said vertical members apart. Cables limit the relative movement of said vertical members. Hinge means at the top of the frame facilitate the deflective capabilities of said frame.Type: GrantFiled: June 4, 1981Date of Patent: December 28, 1982Assignee: Woodford Manufacturing CompanyInventors: Russell L. Fillman, Young Z. Yoon

Patent number: 4358915Abstract: The invention relates to a self-assembling telescopable structure comprising a plurality of members which can be slipped and unslipped into and from each other. For the assemblage and disassembling of the structure releasable fastening members are provided for the several component parts and reversible lifting means acting between the internal component part and its next intermediary component part.By outstretching such means it is possible to effect the unslipping of the internal component part from its next. By subsequently fastening the internal component to the external one or to an intermediate component and binding mutually the other intermediate components, it becomes possible, by contraction of said lifting means to have the mutually bound intermediate components into the unslipped internal component part. By repeating these steps, the structure is assembled, whereas, by reverting the step sequence the disassembling of the structure is obtained.Type: GrantFiled: October 1, 1980Date of Patent: November 16, 1982Assignee: L.P.E. Patent number: 4358917Abstract: An improved extruded resilient flush-look window molding adapted for pre-attachment to a glass plate for concealing the gap between a body panel window opening and the edge of the glass plate. The molding has a stem portion with first and second self-biased retaining legs on one side thereof, adapted to engage the glass edge and a diverging third leg extending from the stem portion opposite side supporting an integral arcuate sectioned trim strip in cantilever fashion on the diverging leg upper end. The trim strip projects inwardly to overlie the gap and the molding stem portion. The divergent leg is self-biased for cammed inward flexing during insertion of the glass plate. Thus, the trim strip self-adjusts inwardly so as to maintain its engagement with the plate outer surface while accommodating production tolerance gaps.Type: GrantFiled: May 11, 1981Date of Patent: November 16, 1982Assignee: Chrysler CorporationInventors: Roy Oda, Richard W. Patent number: 4325533Abstract: The invention provides a device for housing steel reinforcement in areas where joints are made between first and subsequently poured concrete structures such that connecting portions of the steel reinforcements are isolated during pouring of the first concrete and are thereafter bent out for connecting the subsequently poured concrete structure. The device comprises a housing having an open box, a cover therefore, and anchoring strips disposed in the transverse direction of the box at intervals along its length and at the bottom thereof. The anchoring strips having transverse slots in the upper portion thereof to receive and support the connecting portions of the steel reinforcements.
