Abstract: Systems, methods, and other embodiments associated with a hybrid beamforming architecture are described. According to one embodiment, a first wireless device includes a transmitter and a baseband beamforming processing unit. The baseband beamforming processing unit includes a steering matrix calculation unit and a steering matrix cache. The steering matrix calculation unit is configured to derive a steering matrix from channel related information in a first packet received from a second wireless device. The steering matrix includes weights. The steering matrix cache is configured to (i) store the steering matrix derived from the channel related information, and (ii) provide the weights from the steering matrix to the transmitter. The transmitter is configured to, based on the weights from the steering matrix, perform transmit beamforming on a second packet being transmitted to the second wireless device from the first wireless device.

  • Patent number: 9370016
Abstract: A UE gauges how many UEs are currently served in each of various coverage systems, by evaluating downlink control channel signaling in each coverage system to determine from the control signaling an extent to which the signaling provides for UE scheduling and to establish a corresponding relative measure of an extent to which the coverage system is serving UEs. In an example implementation, this evaluation may involve eliminating from consideration any control channel signaling that is not associated with UE scheduling, so as to determine by exclusion an extent to which the downlink control channel signaling is associated with UE scheduling. The UE then compares such relative measures of the various coverage systems as a basis to select a coverage system in which to operate, such as by favoring operation in the coverage that thereby seems to be serving the fewest number of UEs.

  • Patent number: 9357409
Abstract: A wireless network emulation system undersamples log files when the conditions represented in the log files would require a faster refresh rate than the channel emulator can provide. A representative sample may be selected based on number of channel taps, delay spread, maximum value, or being first, last or otherwise identifiable within a group. The RF information from the selected sample is utilized as being representative of a group of related samples for a given time period corresponding to the refresh rate of the channel emulator.

  • Patent number: 9351132
Abstract: The present invention is directed towards providing event-triggered communication in a half duplex communication environment of a wireless communication network (10). A first end terminal (12) sends a selection of an end terminal (14) in a group of terminals to act as an event notifying device to a server (22). The event notifying device (14) compares an event with a threshold and sends an event notifier to the server if the event exceeds the threshold. If it receives the event notifier, the server prioritises data from the event notifying device over ongoing communication sessions for other devices in the group, receives data from the event notifying device associated with the event notifier and transports data indicative of the event to other devices of the group, in order to inform them of the event.

  • Patent number: 9282043
Abstract: A device may determine a first aggregation level for aggregating incoming packets. The device may aggregate the incoming packets using the first aggregation level. The device may determine that a controlled packet pass rate for the incoming packets satisfies an arrival rate threshold based on aggregating the incoming packets using the first aggregation level. • Patent number: 9276862
Abstract: A telecommunication and network traffic throttle and control and rate deck synchronization system including one or more processors coupled to a communications network. The system is configured to monitor, control, and throttle network traffic and to generate and synchronize rate decks to limit and block unwanted and harmful traffic to optimize performance of and protect telecommunications and network infrastructure. Received routing requests are parsed for subscriber identifiers that have assigned current rate decks. Routing requests are forwarded only for subscribers having unexpired assigned rate decks. When new assigned rate decks are generated with prospective effective times, the current date decks are modified to expire before the effective time, and subscribers are sent URLs having embedded security hashes, which must be downloaded before the current assigned rate decks expire.

  • Patent number: 9277302
Abstract: A packet switch that scales gracefully from a capacity of a fraction of a terabit per second to thousands of terabits per second is disclosed. The packet switch comprises edge nodes interconnected by independent switch units. The switch units are arranged in a matrix having multiple rows and multiple columns and may comprise instantaneous or latent space switches. Each edge node has a channel to a switch unit in each column and a channel from each switch unit in a selected column. A simple path traversing only one of the switch units may be established from each edge node to each other edge node. Where needed, a compound path comprising at most two simple paths may be established for any edge-node pair. In a preferred configuration, the switch units connect at input to orthogonal sets of edge nodes. A distributed control system expedites connection-request processing.
