  • Patent number: 6816715
Abstract: A wideband receiver (10) comprises a frequency converter (16) for converting the frequency of a signal inputted through an antenna (12) by using a local oscillation signal from a local oscillator (18); a wideband filter (20) for receiving the output of the frequency converter (16) and passing a signal component corresponding to the scanning band including the bands of channels; an A/D converter (22) for converting the output of the wideband filter (20) into a digital signal; an FFT operational circuit (24) for receiving the digital signal and subjecting it to high-speed Fourier transformation; and a control circuit (26) for detecting the channel in communication in a predetermined scanning band on the basis of the results of operation of the FFT operational circuit. The control circuit (26) repeats the change of the scanning band by changing the frequency of the local oscillation signal, to detect the channel in communication with an assigned frequency range, i.e., a search frequency range.

  • Patent number: 6799016
Abstract: A method of creating a database of poor coverage areas (120) in a wireless communication system includes (100) determining if a signal quality metric (204) of a communication link (130) in a poor coverage area (120) is below a signal quality threshold (202) then incrementing a poor coverage area counter (210), if not, incrementing a good coverage area counter (212). Storing one or more previous coverage areas (138-140) traversed by wireless device (102) prior to entering the poor coverage area (120) and calculating a trajectory (136) to the poor coverage area (120) based on one or more previous coverage areas (138-140) and poor coverage area (120). Subsequently, anticipating entry of the wireless device (102) into the poor coverage area (120) utilizing the trajectory (136) to the poor coverage area (120) and alerting a user of wireless device (102).

  • Patent number: 6771955
Abstract: An information signal processing function of a telephone communication terminal can be limited taking regulations applied to the other party or an input of the other party into consideration. A base station that repeats a radio wave of a call originating portable telephone terminal transmits a country code thereof to a telephone terminal. Based on a region identification code such as a state code (international number) or a country code included in information received upon origination of the call, the called terminal refers to a status table in a ROM thereof to specify presence or absence of limitations to recording of conversation during communication applied to a state or a region in which the call originating terminal is used. In accordance with the specified limitation contents, use of the conversation recording function during communication is controlled such that a warning sound generator transmits warning sound or a voice decoding section disables recording of the conversation.

  • Patent number: 6725055
Abstract: A method is provided for estimating the SIR of signals transmitted between a mobile unit and a base station, wherein the signals comprise pilot and data symbol blocks transmitted during each of a succession of time slots. Initially, the signals of a group of slots are directed to the receiver, which may be either the mobile unit receiver or the base station receiver. SIR estimates and corresponding power changes are computed for each slot in the initial group, employing only respective pilot symbols thereof. The SIR estimates derived from the initial slot group are used to compute the delay time of power control commands sent from the receiver to the transmitter, in order to adjust the power level thereof. The SIR for signals of a specified slot, which follows the initial slot group, is then estimated from the time delay, from the pilot block of the specified slot, and from the data block of the slot immediately preceding the specified slot, collectively.

  • Patent number: 6665540
Abstract: A method and system for estimating the location of a mobile station in a telecommunications network having a reference base station and a plurality of neighboring base stations. At the beginning of the E-OTD measurement, the mobile station may be provided with the expected OTD values in the reference base station site, possibly instead of RTD values of the neighboring base stations, to make it possible for the mobile station to calculate the uncertainty in the measured OTD due to its unknown location. Alternatively, the network provides the mobile station the expected OTD values in its current location, and the estimated uncertainty of those values. When the uncertainty is greater than a predetermined value, the mobile station makes E-OTD measurements based on the SCH burst. Otherwise, the mobile station makes measurements based on normal/dummy bursts, and/or aligns the time window for taking samples from signals received from neighboring base stations.
