  • Patent number: 6147988
Abstract: An assembly comprising a program controlled switch and (IP) Module providing signal compression and decompression and packet assembly and disassembly (PAD). The arrangement provides compression and packetizing of digitized voice and data signals between the conventional switch line interface units and the switch fabric, and/or between the line interface units and the time slot interchange in the interface module. Voice channel signals which have been digitized to 64 Kb/s D0 signals are packetized and packet switched to improve the efficiency of the program controlled switch assembly and also provide convenient Internet access via direct connection to ISP routers.

  • Patent number: 6088348
Abstract: A wireless communication with a receiver subsystem capable of supporting communications operating on two or three distinct frequency bands while incorporating only one or two oscillating devices, respectively. For example, such a subsystem could be integrated in a wireless communication hand-held device configured to operate within three frequency ranges in order to support Cellular, PCS, and GPS services. The receiver subsystem includes a receiver subsystem front end configured to receive first, second, and third receive signals operating under three different frequency bands. The three receive signals are subjected to front-stage filtering, low-noise amplifier, and bandpass filtering in order to remove any unwanted radio frequency components. The first signal is subsequently down-converted into an IF signal by mixing it with a first reference signal generated by a first voltage controlled oscillator (VCO).

  • Patent number: 6084872
Abstract: A method and system for providing a network which routes telephone calls to the dial-up access line of on-line data services, such as an Internet Service Provider. The calls are routed over, over data trunks to a circuit-switch that consolidates access to on-line data services. The data trunks are separate from trunks carrying normal voice telephone calls. At the originating office where the telephone call originates, the call is recognized as a call to a telephone number associated with the dial-up access telephone number of an on-line data service. A database selects a route over a data trunk to the terminating office having a circuit-switch that consolidates access to the on-line data services. The consolidation of access to on-line data services over segregated data trunks to a single circuit-switch reduces congestion in the network by relieving the network from handling a large volume of long duration telephone calls.

  • Patent number: 6081523
Abstract: A Gigabit network node having a media access controller outputting packet data at Gigabit rates uses multiple 100 MB/s media interface links coupled to a physical interface to enable implementation of a Gigabit network using low cost data links. A modified reconciliation layer, also referred to as a media interface, receives a data packet from a Gigabit MAC and divides the received data packet into multiple data segments having a prescribed length. The multiple segments are output on the multiple media interface links according to a prescribed output protocol, enabling a corresponding media interface at the destination station to recompile the data packet from the received segments from the multiple transmission paths. The transmission of the segments upon multiple transmission paths provides an efficient load balancing of data traffic among the multiple transmission paths.

  • Patent number: 6067291
Abstract: A method and system of operating a wireless local area network station adapted to transmit and receive a signal within a communication cell. The method includes the steps of establishing a carrier detect threshold level, establishing a defer threshold level, and transmitting a signal when the signal level detected by the network station is above the defer threshold level. Additionally, the method further includes the step of receiving a signal transmission intended for the network station when the power of the received signal transmission is above the carrier detect threshold level.

  • Patent number: 6055236
Abstract: Methods and system for locating network services with distributed network address translation. Digital certificates are created that allow an external network device on an external network, such as the Internet, to request a service from an internal network device on an internal distributed network address translation network, such as a stub local area network. The digital certificates include information obtained with a Port Allocation Protocol used for distributed network address translation. The digital certificates are published on the internal network so they are accessible to external network devices. An external network device retrieves a digital certificate, extracts appropriate information, and sends a service request packet to an internal network device on an internal distributed network address translation network. The external network device is able to locate and request a service from an internal network device.

  • Patent number: 6046977
Abstract: A signal detector includes a transform unit and a signal alignment unit. The transform unit is adapted to receive a plurality of frames of time domain input samples and generate a plurality of energy values based on the frames of time domain input samples. Each energy value is associated with one of the plurality of frames. The signal alignment unit is adapted to identify at least a first partial energy frame and a second partial energy frame from the plurality of frames. The first partial energy frame is associated with a first frequency and has a first energy value. The second partial energy frame is associated with a second frequency and has a second energy value. The signal alignment unit determines a misalignment between the first and second partial energy frames based on the first and second energy values. A method for detecting a signal is provided. The method includes generating a plurality of energy values based on the frames of time domain input samples.

  • Patent number: 5995483
Abstract: A multi-point communications system is set forth herein. The communications system includes a transmitter for transmitting OFDM/DMT symbols over a predetermined number of bins across a transmission medium. The OFDM/DMT symbols are generated using at least one timing signal. At least one of the predetermined number of bins includes pilot tone sub-symbols generated from a pilot tone having a frequency corresponding to the at least one timing signal. The communications system also includes a receiver for receiving the OFDM/DMT symbols from the transmission medium. At least one frequency multiplexer is disposed along the transmission medium that frequency multiplexers the OFDM/DMT symbols and a transmission from at least one other transmission source. A mixer is disposed along the transmission medium between the frequency multiplexer and the receiver for mixing the OFDM/DMT symbols for receipt within a passband of the receiver.

  • Patent number: 5687320
Abstract: This invention allows a selected type of network device or resource (e.g. printers) to be discovered on a subnetwork and on remote subnetworks on a network. A broadcast message is sent requesting a response from each host on the subnetwork with a file having a listing of the device. Upon receipt of responses, a STIFLE message is transmitted to the host, thereby allowing subsequent broadcast messages to generate responses from remaining hosts. The responding hosts are then queried in order to obtain address information of potential devices on the subnetwork. A corresponding procedure obtains addresses of agents on remote subnetworks. The agents are then queried in order to obtain addresses of servers containing lists of potential devices on the remote subnetworks.

  • Patent number: 5680641
Abstract: A system and method is provided for use in register-based CPUs for processing data in the CPU register bank while concurrently loading and unloading data into additional register banks. The additional register banks are then sequentially connected to the CPU datapath for data processing. Interconnections between the various register banks in the CPU and appropriate data buses for performing the load/process/unload functions are controlled by a load/store control logic block which can be a simple state machine processor. The load/store control logic is triggered by a software instruction encountered at the end of particular computational routines during normal program execution. This software instruction replaces the need for separate load and store instructions and their attendant clock cycles. The invention substantially decreases unused data processor time since the arithmetic and logic unit (ALU) can be sequentially connected to register banks which have been pre-loaded with data for processing.
