  • Patent number: 5350123
Abstract: A conveyor system for a coffee grinder for taking ground coffee from the grinder to the packing machinery, and a laser test-meter used to analyze the granulometry of ground coffee test samples and compare them with a granulometric reference sample that are known. The system of the invention includes improvements which include a first device which continually receives undisturbed ground coffee samples and delivers these samples to a second device in which a gas stream blows a stream of coffee grains down a tube to the test-meter and a second stream of gas flowing at right-angles to the tube disperses any partially aggregated particles before they reach the test-meter. A third device creates a pressurized safety area around each lens of the laser test-meter. The area is partly closed so that laser beams can freely pass, and gas under pressure enters the area preventing coffee grains from entering the area and disturbing the lens.

  • Patent number: 5348237
Abstract: An apparatus for reducing, dispersing, wetting and mixing pumpable, non-magnetic multiphase mixtures comprises a sealed annular-gap chamber having an annular gap which forms a working chamber, into which the material to be worked flows in from the bottom and flows out from the top. This annular-gap chamber is formed by a double tube, the outer tube of which is surrounded by an outer exciter system and the inner tube of which is surrounded by an inner exciter system. In the working chamber there are, apart from the material to be worked, freely mobile magnetic working media, which move in the direction of the rotating electromagnetic fields within the multiphase mixture flowing through the annular-gap chamber and perform translatory transverse motions and tumbling motions. Within the working chamber or the annular gap there exist an inflow zone and an outflow zone, which are in each case free from working media.

  • Patent number: 5348235
Abstract: A medical waste disposal system includes an assembly for superheating a quantity of untreated medical waste which is partially saturated with water to an internal temperature of at least 275 degrees Fahrenheit for at least thirty minutes. After such superheating the vessel is rotated to cool the same to under 100 degrees Fahrenheit after which the contents are deposited into a matrix of grinding elements having surfaces of different grinding dimensions and capabilities such that the output thereof is unrecognizable as medical waste. Such output is then deposited into a microwave assembly to further disinfect and decontaminate the medical waste. After such treatment the output of the system may be treated in the same fashion as conventional household refuse.

  • Patent number: 5335865
Abstract: A high consistency pulp refiner of the type having a pressurized casing (12) containing opposed grinding discs (14,18) mounted for counter-rotation about a common axis (26) and between which material to be refined is introduced near the axis so as to move generally radially outwardly through an inner refining zone (40) between the discs while producing steam as a result of the refining action. The partially refined material and steam then move through a generally radially outer refining zone (50) between one of the discs (14) and a stationary grinding surface (54) situated generally radially outwardly of the other disc (18), whereupon the refined material and steam are discharged from the casing through a material outlet (62).

  • Patent number: 5328103
Abstract: A process for impact crushing of rock and ore lumps, in which a rock lump is subjected to a primary impact force P.sub.1, and then the plurality of resultant smaller pieces are subjected to a secondary impact force P.sub.2. The application of the impact forces P.sub.1 and P.sub.2 is synchronized in time. The velocity vector V.sub.1 of the lump subjected to the primary impact force P.sub.1 and the vector of the secondary impact force P.sub.2 lie on a line running through the center of the lump mass. The invention also covers an apparatus for performing the above process, which comprises a housing accommodating a primary crushing rotor and a secondary crushing rotor, and also means for synchronizing the rotation of the secondary crushing rotor and the primary crushing rotor, coupled kinematically to said rotors. The secondary crushing rotor has two hammers, and its mass increases along the longitudinal axis of symmetry in a direction away from the axis of rotation.

  • Patent number: 5318228
Abstract: A process for the production of an alkali dispersion includes charging a mixing vessel with a solid alkali metal, a liquid which is inert to the alkali metal and a grinding media. The vessel is connected to a vibrating driver which is vibrated until the alkali metal is ground by the media finely enough to form a dispersion in the liquid.
