  • Patent number: 11703372
Abstract: A sensor system is described that can be attached to the outside wall of a nonmetallic container located within an outer cage, and that measures with high resolution a level of liquid inside the container using capacitance changes at the sensor system. The sensor system includes a sensing element having a metal channel that houses a foam ribbon, and a conductive strip is applied to the foam ribbon oppositely from the metal channel to form a capacitor. Sensor electronics can determine capacitance changes from which the liquid level is determined, and can transmit sensor information wirelessly to an external electronic device. The sensor system further includes a compression assembly for fixing the sensing element to the cage while maintaining the sensing element applied against an outer surface of the container in a highly conformable manner. The compression assembly includes components for attachment to the cage bars, and one or more springs bias the sensing element against the container.

  • Patent number: 11698325
Abstract: A method for measuring and computing unsteady loads using unsteady pressure-sensitive paint (uPSP) data includes performing an in-situ calibration using an average of pixels of a portion of an image captured of a surface painted with pressure-sensitive paint. The method also includes dividing an average static pressure by an intensity for each region of interest (ROI) in terms of time to produce a ratioed intensity measuring an intensity fluctuation. The method further includes producing a pressure-time history from the in-situ calibration and the measured intensity fluctuation. The method also includes calculating a fluctuating force by multiplying the produced pressure-time history by an area of pixels in each ROI, and converting a time signal to a frequency, and producing a power spectral density (PSD) to compare frequency content to determine an amount of energy at a certain frequency band.

  • Patent number: 11686656
Abstract: A closed-loop temperature controller employing at least two sensors: a control temperature sensor and a safety sensor at the heat-transfer element. The heat-generating element is separated from the controlled mass/volume by a transport delay so that the mass or volume that is being heated or cooled is located in a vessel which is located remotely from the heat-transfer unit. Thermally conducting fluid flows through a conduit that connects the heat-transfer unit to the vessel. Upon fluid flow interruption or control sensor removal, the temperature controller quickly detects thermal runaway before the safety sensor has reached the critical temperature. In heated systems, the temperature controller will therefore minimize direct damage and/or overshoot damage caused by excessive heat. It will also maintain the heater's output at an elevated, but non-damaging level to enable a fast recovery to the original setpoint temperature after the nonlinearity subsides.

  • Patent number: 11660502
Abstract: An athlete wearing footwear measures jump heights with a motion sensor mounted on the footwear over toes of the athlete. By sensing vertical jump start motions the sensor detects jump start and finish times of ?4 g start and ?4 g landing. The sensor, a body wearable mems sensor developed by JAWKU, L.L.C., has a previously installed generic factory scale calibration factor. The athlete replaces this calibration factor with a new calibration scale factor selecting an “absolute” external reference device which measures jump height. This device measures several jump heights then inputted to an algorithm app in the sensor to calculate the new calibration scale factor customized to the actual athlete. The motion sensor has built in programming apps to periodically receive an upgraded factory scale calibration factor which upgrade is based on an ever increasing data pool of jump heights.
