  • Patent number: 8089967
Abstract: Methods for modifying a switching table of an Internet Protocol (IP) switch. The methods include: receiving a dynamic host configuration protocol (DHCP) option 43 request from a host of a LAN at an access port of the IP switch; transmitting the request to a DHCP server; intercepting a DHCP response for the request from the DHCP server; extracting an IP address from the intercepted DHCP response; and adding the extracted IP address to a corresponding entry (specific to the access port) of a switching table of the IP switch. The methods include: receiving an IP frame at an access port of the IP switch; reading an IP source address from the IP frame; and in the switching table either: creating a new entry including the IP source address and its associated port identifier or changing an existing entry based on the IP source address and the access port.

  • Patent number: 8089339
Abstract: Methods and wireless devices for providing secure operation of a vehicle. In one such method, a key for accessing a vehicle is detected, a vehicle operation policy associated with the key is retrieved, and operation of the vehicle consistent with the vehicle operation policy is permitted. The key may be embedded within a wireless device such as a cellular telephone. The vehicle operation policy may include an access control rule that may indicate to enable, partially enable, or disable a vehicle operation feature. Where the intended operation of the vehicle is not consistent with the access control rule, the operation may not be permitted and an enforcement action may be taken, such as disabling a feature of the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 8059658
Abstract: An indication of a host route to be added to a forwarding database table as an entry is received. The host route is added to a first hardware table or a second hardware table if a space is available in the second hardware table or in a first storage area of the first hardware table. The first hardware table has both a first storage area and a second storage area. If a space is not available in the second hardware table or the first storage area of the first hardware table, the first storage area of the first hardware table is automatically expanded to include unused space in the second storage area of the first hardware table. The host route is then added to a space in the expanded first storage area of the first hardware table.

  • Patent number: 8054175
Abstract: A portable type information transmitting apparatus has a bionic information measuring section that outputs bionic information in accordance with a detected bionic signal. A standard radio wave receiving section receives a standard radio wave including current time information. A time counting section counts time. A time correcting section corrects the time counted by the time counting section based on the standard radio wave received by the standard radio wave section. A transmission data generating section generates transmission data including first time information corresponding to the time counted by the time counting section and the bionic information from the bionic information measuring section. A data transmission section transmits the transmission data generated by the transmission data generating section.

  • Patent number: 8049602
Abstract: The present invention describes a car anti-theft system. Specifically, the present invention has an organic light-emitting diode (OLED) patterned onto a visible surface of a vehicle. Vehicle theft is recognized when an unauthorized driver fails to enter a predetermined code, resulting in lighting of OLED. Lighted OLED may be seen by passers-by who may then alert police that a car is in the process of being stolen. Alternatively and additionally, OLED's may be integrated into primary car alarm systems so as to add an additional, visual, layer of car protection.

  • Patent number: 8045492
Abstract: The present invention provides a technique for automatically establishing a virtual circuit from one edge device to another through a core network. The virtual circuit may comprise one or more pseudowire segments. These pseudowire segments extend between adjacent edge and core devices within the core network. Pseudowire segments through the core network are automatically stitched together as a setup message is forwarded from a first edge device to a second edge device through the core network. A virtual circuit is established in one direction, and packets are forwarded in an opposite direction. With the present invention, a virtual circuit comprising any number of pseudowire segments, as well as two attachment circuits, may be established in an automatic and efficient manner upon being initiated by the first edge device.

  • Patent number: 8031707
Abstract: An apparatus for and method of encapsulating Ethernet frames over a Very high speed Digital Subscriber Line (VDSL) transport facility. The VDSL frames are transmitted over a point to point VDSL link where they are subsequently extracted and forwarded as standard Ethernet frames. The VDSL facility transport system comprises an Ethernet to VDSL Customer Premises Equipment (CPE) coupled to a DSL Access Multiplexor (DSLAM) over a VDSL transport facility. The Ethernet to VDSL CPE functions to receive a 10BaseT Ethernet signal and encapsulate the Ethernet frame into a VDSL frame for transmission over the VDSL facility. The DSLAM is adapted to receive VDSL frames, extract Ethernet frames therefrom and generate and output a standard Ethernet signal. Ethernet frames are encapsulated within VDSL frames and transmitted on the wire pair without regard to the state of the SOC signals.

  • Patent number: 8009022
Abstract: A system to present the user a 3-D virtual environment as well as non-visual sensory feedback for interactions that user makes with virtual objects in that environment is disclosed. In an exemplary embodiment, a system comprising a depth camera that captures user position and movement, a three-dimensional (3-D) display device that presents the user a virtual environment in 3-D and a haptic feedback device provides haptic feedback to the user as he interacts with a virtual object in the virtual environment. As the user moves through his physical space, he is captured by the depth camera. Data from that depth camera is parsed to correlate a user position with a position in the virtual environment. Where the user position or movement causes the user to touch the virtual object, that is determined, and corresponding haptic feedback is provided to the user.
