  • Patent number: 5117716
Abstract: A dual template assembly for permitting rough and finish cuts to be made on successive passes of a tracer lathe includes separate rough and finish templates. A pneumatic cylinder selectively causes sliding movement of the rough template relative to the finish template. The rough template is initially moved to an extended position, wherein an edge thereof is exposed over an edge of the finish template. A lathe tracing stylus is moved across the rough template edge, causing the lathe to remove material from a workpiece in accordance with the rough shaped defined thereby. A sensor generates a signal when the tracing stylus completes its movement across the rough template. In response thereto, the control circuit causes the rough template to be moved to a retracted position, wherein the finish template edge is exposed over the rough template edge.

  • Patent number: 5113730
Abstract: A bar stock guide arrangement for screw machines having a rotatably mounted fitting which has a horizontal opening for loosely passing the bar stock and guide rollers in the fitting at circumferentially spaced locations around the bar stock. The guide rollers are on roller supports which are selectively adjustable radially of the fitting to accommodate different bar stock diameters. Weights are slidably received in the fitting between the roller holders, and centrifugal force on the weights produces inward force on the roller holders to hold the guide rollers against the bar stock. Each fitting has a central hub slidably received, on and detachable from, a corresponding tube on a rigid cross plate which supports the fitting.

  • Patent number: 5111622
Abstract: A grinding wheel is mounted coaxially of an internal diameter saw blade and rotates with the saw blade during operation. The grinding wheel includes a grinding disc and a center rod which is movably mounted within a central bore of the spindle of the slicing machine. Compressed fluid such as air is used to move the grinding wheel from a retracted position to an extended position against the bias of a spring secured to the center rod. The pressurized fluid is introduced into a chamber for moving an annular sleeve-like piston removably secured to the grinding disc. An adjustable stop ring is also mounted on an adaptor within the sleeve-like piston and has ears which can be deflected by screws from access openings in the grinding disc for fine running adjustments of the grinding disc. This stop ring can be accessed upon removal of the grinding disc from the center rod and sleeve-like piston in order to permit coarse initial adjustments in the positioning of the grinding disc.

  • Patent number: 5101700
Abstract: A rotatable tool head for a machine tool includes a tool slide and a mass balancing counter slide which are radially displaceable in opposite directions. The counter slide is mounted in a central recess of the tool slide such that the mass centers of the tool slide and the counter slide move along substantially the same radial line during tool adjustments. In this manner unbalanced masses present in an arrangement where the slides are positioned in axial or radial adjacent relationship, are substantial eliminated.

  • Patent number: 5095663
Abstract: Microfinishing devices and processes for in-process gauging of a microfinishing process of generally cylindrical workpieces. A size control shoe is used with a microfinishing shoe such that the diameter of a generally cylindrical workpiece can be continually monitored during the microfinishing process. Once a predetermined diameter or workpiece geometry is achieved, the machining process can be terminated. Several embodiments of size control shoes are disclosed which are particularly adapted for retrofit applications for existing microfinishing equipment. A "masterless" microfinishing machine is also described having arms which engage the size control and microfinishing shoes which follow the path of the workpiece during machining. Since the shoes must be maintained in engagement with the workpiece after a desired diameter is achieved, the pressure applied by the microfinishing arms is relieved until all of the workpiece surfaces are machined.

  • Patent number: 5086677
Abstract: The invention relates to a device for truncating tubes, comprising at least one knife, which cooperates at the end of the cut with a counter-knife positioned within the tube to be truncated and which is connected mechanically to a core of strong magnetic permeability. In one embodiment, a winding is wound in a framework around the tube to be truncated, to create a magnetic field in the core through the tube to be truncated so as to be able to act magnetically on the longitudinal position of the core and thus on that of the counter-knife. At least one pair of tubular sleeves are fitted at each of the ends of the framework and are formed of a material of strong magnetic permeability, to direct and form the lines of induction. In another embodiment, the winding is arranged around a core which is fixed with respect to said winding and whose axis is positioned parallel and at a distance from the longitudinal axis of the tube to be truncated.

  • Patent number: 5087222
Abstract: A method and system for dressing cattle in which, after kill, the carcass is suspended in a generally horizontal position by at least one foreleg and one hind leg, with the legs uppermost, and transported while so suspended along a dressing line. In such position, the hide is partially cut longitudinally in the chin, neck and upper brisket area to form a longitudinal cut line. Thereafter, portions of the hide around the foreleg are grasped and pulled downwardly away from the skin to separate the hide from the skin on the forelegs, brisket and chin and form a gap between the underside of the hide and skin on the back of the neck. The carcass is then repositioned with the head up and tail down by suspension from at least one foreleg, the hide cut to form a cut line in the belly region from the brisket to the tail, and the edges of the hide along the cut line gripped and pulled back to separate the hide from the carcass.

  • Patent number: 5081820
Abstract: A method for applying an end plate to a container body includes applying a heated end blank made of deformable material to one end of the container body and creating a pressure difference between the two sides of the end blank to seal the edges of the end blank to the edges of the container body. The apparatus for applying an end plate to a container body includes a jacket having a chamber into which the container body can be fitted. A vacuum source is provided at one end of the jacket and a lid or clamping device is located at the opposite end of the jacket. The chamber into which the container body is fitted is not as deep as the container body so that when the container body is fitted into the chamber, the upper edges of the container body extend above the surface of the jacket. In that, the end blank can be applied to the container body and thereafter, the clamping device is used to clamp the end blank between the upper edge of the jacket and the clamping device.

  • Patent number: 5076021
Abstract: The flat grind stage assembly is programmed so that the grinding wheel is first caused to move along a straight path to form a flat on a wafer while the wafer is held in a stationary position. Thereafter, the grinding wheel is returned to the mid-point of the flat and then moved away from the flat. The wafer is then rotated and grinding commences when the end of the flat is reached so that a circular periphery is ground on the remainder of the wafer while the axis of the grinding wheel remains stationary.
