Patent number: 6834875Abstract: A retractable step for use with a vehicle comprises a stepping member having a stepping deck, a first arm, a second arm, a motor and a stop. The first arm has a first end pivotally attached to the vehicle, and a second end pivotally attached to the stepping member. The second arm also has a first end pivotally attached to the vehicle, and a second end pivotally attached to the stepping member. The motor is drivingly connected to the first arm such that a rotation of the motor causes rotation of the first arm about its first end and moves the stepping member from a retracted position to an extended position, or vice versa. The stop is located within the range of motion of the second arm such that the second arm bears against the stop when the stepping member is in the extended position. The first and second arms are situated such that the first arm is loaded in compression and the second arm is loaded in tension when the stepping member is in the extended position and a load is placed upon it.Type: GrantFiled: October 16, 2002Date of Patent: December 28, 2004Assignee: American Moto Products, Inc.Inventors: Horst Leitner, Anthony Smith

Patent number: 6834737Abstract: A system for providing a hybrid vehicle with a practical source of auxiliary power. The system includes two electric motor/generators connected to each other in such a fashion so that when one electric motor/generator functions as a motor, the other becomes a generator with their roles being reversed depending on whether the system is in an auxiliary power mode or energy storage mode. Connected to one motor/generator is the vehicle drive train. Connected to the other motor/generator is a pressure energy storage system, which in the energy storage mode converts the force of rotation into pressurized gas for storage in an energy system and delivered in the form of electric current by the one motor/generator, and in the energy delivery mode converts the stored energy of the energy storage system into electric current for delivery to the one motor/generator which is part of the vehicle drive train to provide auxiliary power for practical hybrid vehicles.Type: GrantFiled: September 28, 2001Date of Patent: December 28, 2004Inventor: Steven R. Patent number: 6834734Abstract: An electrical scooter includes a chassis having front and rear ends to which front and rear wheels are mounted. A seat is mounted on the chassis for supporting a rider thereon. A steering shaft is rotatably mounted to the front end of the chassis in an upright manner and has a lower end attached to the front wheel for swiveling the front wheel. A control device is mounted to an upper end of the steering shaft. An electrical motor is mounted to one side of the front wheel and coupled to the front wheel for driving the front wheel under the control of the control device. Since the motor is mounted to one side of the front wheel, the weight of the motor induces a torque to the steering shaft and thus yawing the front wheel and making directional offset of the scooter in the moving thereof. An offset compensating device is provided to overcome the directional offset of the electrical scooter.Type: GrantFiled: October 17, 2002Date of Patent: December 28, 2004Inventor: Donald P. H. Wu

Patent number: 6832770Abstract: An ambulation aid which has a support structure for the patient that both supports the patient's weight, and is movable laterally with respect to the frame to accommodate sideways hip movement of the patient's gait. The inventors have observed that a patient's hip will shift laterally as the patient steps forward and places weight on the forward stepping leg. This causes prior art ambulation aids to jerk sideways. The present invention overcomes this by providing a support structure which can move sideways without requiring the entire frame to move sideways. In one embodiment, the support structure slides in a track behind the patient, allowing lateral movement. In another embodiment, the support structure includes a belt which either slides through rollers behind the patient, or is attached but is flexible to allow hip movement, or is attached to a slider behind the patient.Type: GrantFiled: November 20, 2002Date of Patent: December 21, 2004Inventors: Christine Wright-Ott, Richard Escobar

Patent number: 6808036Abstract: An electronic anti-skid device for motor vehicles with hydrostatic transmission has at least one sensor for the transmission of data pertaining to the output of the hydrostatic transmission, a steering angle detector and an electronic computer. The electronic computer uses data from the sensor to calculate theoretical power output of the hydraulic motors of the driver wheels of the vehicles and, thus, the theoretical speed of the wheels. The electronic computer is programmed to scan the detectors at very rapid intervals, and to adjust, on each scan, hydraulic output from output regulators. The output regulators have electrical controllers and are coupled to each hydraulic motor of a driven wheel way as to limit the power from each regulator to a value marginally above the theoretical output for the motor of the wheel to which the power regulator is connected.Type: GrantFiled: October 4, 2002Date of Patent: October 26, 2004Assignee: Pellenc, S.A.Inventor: Roger Pellenc
