Abstract: Disclosed herein is a protein sweetener that has been isolated from Pentadiplandra brazzeana Baillon. The sweetener is thermostable, lysine rich, and has a relative long lasting taste. Also disclosed is a recombinant host capable of producing the sweetener in large quantities. Compositions of this sweetener with other sweeteners are also disclosed.
Abstract: A novel crystal protein as an effective ingredient in harmful organism controlling agents, Bacillus thuringiensis var. japonensis strain N141 producing the protein, and a gene coding for the protein. This novel strain produces an insecticidal crystal toxin and is useful for a harmful organism controlling agent.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a transglutaminase originating from Crassostrea gigas, a gene coding for the transglutaminase, a plasmid carrying the gene, a microorganism transformed with the plasmid, a method for producing an intended transglutaminase by cultivating the microorganism and a method for gelating a protein using the transglutaminase originating from Crassostrea gigas. When comparing with other transglutaminases, the transglutaminase originating from Crassostrea gigas has novel characteristic properties such that it can be activated by the action of calcium ions and that it is further activated by the addition of sodium chloride and/or potassium chloride and it is of utility value, in particular, as a gelling agent for foods.
Abstract: A novel insecticidal protein isolated from Bacillus thuringiensis var. galleria is described and its DNA sequence is given. This protein, called CryIC(b), is toxic to Lepidoptera, including Spodoptera.
Abstract: The present invention has disclosed the amino acid sequence and nucleotide sequence of the .alpha.- and .beta.-subunits of two types of nitrile hydratase derived from Rhodococcus rhodochrous J-1. The DNA fragment encoding nitrile hydratase is inserted into an expression vector and the recombinant vector is used for transformation. The transformant contains multiple copies of the gene and can produce much higher level of nitrile hydratase compared with conventionally used microorganisms.

Abstract: Methods are described for the isolation and characterization of DNA sequences from Aspergillus niger var. awamori which are involved in the expression and secretion of endoxylanase II (exlA) by said Aspergillus mould. A process using these expression and/or secretion regulating regions to direct the production and optionally the secretion of proteins other than endoxylanase II by transformed moulds is provided.

Abstract: Chimeric proteins possessing Kunitz-type domain 1 of TFPI-2 and Kunitz-type domain 2 of TFPI are disclosed, as are muteins of TFPI and TFPI-2. Nucleic acid sequences, expression vectors and transformed host cells encoding and capable of producing the disclosed chimeric proteins and muteins are also disclosed. Finally, methods for prevention and treatment of septic shock using the chimeric proteins and muteins are disclosed.
Abstract: The invention provides a gene encoding penicillin G acylase, the enzyme encoded by said gene and a method for the production of said enzyme by incorporating said gene in a host and bringing the same to expression. The gene is preferably obtained from a strain of the microorganism Alcaligenes faecalis.
Abstract: Protein kinase mutant and wild-type genes encoding polypeptides of the class heretofore designated "casein kinase I" and useful in screening compositions which may affect DNA double-strand break repair activity are disclosed. Also disclosed are methods using the polynucleotides in cell-proliferative disorders.
Abstract: The invention relates to a regulatory gene coding for a polypeptide having the ability to activate a promoter for a nitrile hydratase gene, a recombinant DNA containing said regulatory gene, and a transformant transformed with said recombinant DNA.The introduction of the regulatory gene of the invention along with a nitrile hydratase gene and its promoter region permits bacteria of the genus Rhodococcus to produce a higher level of nitrile hydratase. Other extraneous gene can also be introduced into a region downstream of the promoter to produce other proteins in high yield.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a process for producing large amounts of 7.beta.-(4-carboxybutanamido)-cephalosporanic acid acylase ("GA") enzyme, which process consists in growing, under suitable culture conditions, a recombinant Escherichia coli K12 strain and subsequently extracting the enzyme from the resulting culture.Enzyme production is controlled by a particular expression system which can be induced by corn-steep liquor, an extremely low cost component of the culture medium. The enzyme can be used in the enzymatic preparation of 7-amino-cephalosporanic acid by starting from 7.beta.-(4-carboxybutanamido)-cephalosporanic acid.
