  • Patent number: 6186507
Abstract: A unitary sleeve lip seal can be used to provide permanently lubricated sealed bearings in severe service conditions such as the track pins of track-driven vehicles and agricultural equipment. The seal has a labyrinthine exclusion path and multiple dust lips contacting the sleeve in addition to the main sealing lip. A garter spring encircling the main sealing lip may enable the seal to operate at moderately elevated pressures. The sleeve has a radial flange at the outermost end. Elastomeric lips extend between the sleeve flange and a faceplate that terminates the outside end of the seal housing. The seal is packed with water-resistant grease and can, when installed in association with grease-packed bearings can create a permanently lubricated bearing/shaft assembly that requires no re-greasing. Resilient coatings both protect the sleeve and case and also improve leak resistance, especially when the seal is retrofitted onto shafts that have been damaged.

  • Patent number: 6062605
Abstract: In a weldless joint 13, screwing a fastening member 13 into a joint body allows two pipes to move closer to each other in an axial direction without rotating. The two pipes can be thus connected without welded. Packings and disposed in the joint body prevent the leakage of gas through the contact surfaces of the pipes and, further, the leakage of gas from the inside of the joint body to the outside thereof. Accordingly, no packing or sealing element is needed on the periphery of the fastening member.

  • Patent number: 5967569
Abstract: A method and apparatus for manufacturing a fluid coupling employs a rod having a bore at one end into which a plurality of plastic tubes may be inserted. The rod is sized to pass through a lumen of a Luer connector and an elastomeric washer placed within a surface of the Luer connector. The rod and plastic tubes are pulled through the Luer connector and washer. After removal of the rod and back tapping of the tubes flush with the end of the connector, a packing material is introduced into the remote end of the connector to fix the tubes in place. The washer then acts as a dam to prevent a flow of packing material from reaching the distal end of the connector. The apparatus employs tube locator blocks which are sandwiched around the rod for guiding the tubes into place in the end of the rod. A piston and cylinder arrangement is used to pull the rod downwardly through these blocks.

  • Patent number: 5964482
Abstract: In a connection between a pipe and a molding, a tubular housing, fixed on the molding, engages around the pipe with an inner wall tapering conically toward the free end of the housing. Arranged between the pipe and the housing inner wall is a clamping ring, which braces the pipe with the housing in a wedge-like manner. The clamping ring is held in its wedging functional position by a spring element acting on it in the axial direction. The spring element can be locked in a prestressed state without force acting on the clamping ring. To establish the connection between the pipe and the molding, a locking clip passing through the housing is pulled out of the housing to relax the spring element.

  • Patent number: 5961126
Abstract: A metal gasket for an internal combustion engine is formed of a metal plate having a first side and a second side opposite to the first side, and at least one first hole corresponding to a cylinder bore. The first hole is located closer to the first side than to the second side to thereby form a first area at the first side and a second area greater than the first area at the second side. A first bead is formed in the metal plate to extend along an entire outer periphery of the metal plate. The first bead has a first portion located at the first side and a second portion located at the second side. The first portion has a spring constant greater than that at the second portion to thereby provide a tightening pressure on the metal plate as equal as possible. When sealing devices are formed around the fluid holes, the sealing devices can be equally compressed to securely seal therearound.

  • Patent number: 5961156
Abstract: An attachment (5) is detachably mounted on the lower end of a main shaft ram (4) in such a manner that the attachment (5) can rotate about horizontal and vertical axes. The power line of a motor installed in the attachment (5) is inserted through a pair of flexible tubes (13, 25) with its ends connected to a terminal box of the attachment (5) and a terminal box (29) of the main shaft ram (4). The flexible tubes (13, 25) have a pair of connectors (15, 26) which are coupled to each other by a coupling mechanism (27) when the attachment (5) is mounted on the main shaft ram (4). A drum (30) and a rodless cylinder 32 provided above the connector (26) constitute a mechanism (36) for lifting the flexible tubes (13, 25). When the rotation of the attachment (5) about either or both of the axes causes slack in the flexible tube (13), the lifting mechanism (36) eliminate the slack bay pulling up the drum (30) and thus the flexible tube (25).

  • Patent number: 5957508
Abstract: A sealing device for a fluidtight screw connection. When screwing in a screw to be sealed into a fluid-carrying threaded bore of a component, in order to prevent a rectangular sealing ring from extending into a gap between a radial flange of the screw and the component as a result of tangential stress, the sealing device embodies a rectangular sealing ring having a thinner thickness than a countersink into which the sealing ring is inserted. A radial flange of the screw includes a collar that protrudes into the countersink and elastically compresses the rectangular sealing ring so that the sealing ring rests sealingly against a bottom of the countersink and against the collar of the screw.

  • Patent number: 5954345
Abstract: A grommet includes a hollow cylindrical body that is positionable in a bore hole of a transmission case and into which an oil fill tube can be advanced, to thereby establish a seal between the tube and case. The grommet defines an open top end, and a scored membrane is formed integrally with the body to cover the top end. Consequently, the grommet can be positioned in the bore hole to cover the bore hole prior to engaging the oil fill tube with the bore hole, thereby permitting pressure testing of the transmission case and preventing contaminants from entering the case. The oil fill tube can then be advanced through the membrane and into the bore hole.
