  • Patent number: 8979014
Abstract: To reduce sound emission and at the same time improve stability, a multilayer board for acoustic insulation is proposed that includes, but is not limited to a core sheet arranged between a first and a second covering layer. At least one of the two covering layers is of a closed design. The core sheet is firmly connected in a planar fashion to the covering layers. The core sheet comprises slits that extend within the core sheet in the direction of the core sheet thickness, which slits reduce the shear stiffness of the board and thus ensure an improved acoustic insulation effect. On both sides the core sheet comprises continuous edge zones, which extend parallel to the covering layers. An aircraft can have an interior lining formed by panels that comprise the multilayer boards in order to provide acoustic insulation.

  • Patent number: 8910592
Abstract: A plurality of pliant scrapers are preferably secured to a feeder grille. The grille keeps an animal from walking in the feed. The scrapers are pliant to flex when the animal presses its head into a gap between adjacent scrapers, without causing undue pain or harm. When the animal pushes into the gap between adjacent scrapers, the pliant scrapers spread sufficiently to allow the animal's head to pass. When the animal subsequently backs out of the feeder, the pliant scrapers flip from pointing into the gap to pointing slightly out from the gap. As the animal continues to recede from the feeder, the scrapers wipe across the face and mouth of the animal. The wiping separates any unsecured hay or feed from the mouth of the animal. When the scrapers eventually separate from the animal, they spring towards the feeder interior, thereby propelling loose hay back into the feeder.

Abstract: Embodiments of a flight-control system and methods of reducing the probability of a roll-control reversal in a canard-controlled flight vehicle are generally described herein. In some embodiments, the flight-control system may monitor angular velocities of the flight vehicle to detect the onset of instability and adaptively control an acceleration limit of the flight vehicle based on the detected instability to reduce the probability of a roll-control reversal. The onset of instability may be detected by persistently high angular velocities. The acceleration limit may be further adaptively controlled based on an approach of a vehicle trim limit.

  • Patent number: 8770522
Abstract: A spacecraft deployment mechanism employing a pair of bi-stable tape springs attached to a cylinder such that rotation of the cylinder extends or retracts the tape springs in opposite directions. The tape springs are fabricated such that they are stable when wrapped around a cylinder (stowed configuration) or when deployed and have a higher energy state when stowed than when deployed. A plurality of bi-stable tape spring mechanisms may be combined to create a deployment device that does not impart rotational torques to the spacecraft during deployment. Deployment may be accomplished by release of the stored energy in the coiled or packaged state progressing to the lower energy deployed state. Alternatively, a motor may be employed to rotate the cylinders for deploy or retrace the tape springs.
