  • Patent number: 4180219
Abstract: A lap creel comprising rod shaped carrier elements is used, for example, in the textile industry for winding up textile threads or yarns. For this purpose the rod shaped carrier elements are held together by holding or fixing elements which together with the carrier elements form a circular cage from which the carrier elements protrude radially beyond the holding elements. A plurality of holding elements may be arranged along the lap creel. The individual rod shaped carrier elements have a tapering shape so that the lap creel itself has a conical shape with a largest diameter end and a smallest diameter end. At the largest diameter end the holding element encircles the carrier elements so that the latter face radially inwardly. At the smallest diameter end, the carrier element surrounds the holding element so that the carrier elements face radially outwardly in the form of ribs.

  • Patent number: 4176801
Abstract: A device for rotatably supporting a drum or reel of the type on which cable is wound. The vertical flanges of respective angle members are spaced apart to receive therebetween the circular end flange of the cable drum. The drum flange is supported on roller bearings mounted between the angle members. An arcuate cutout is formed in the vertical flange of one angle in order to accommodate the outer layer of cable when the drum is full or nearly full. The invention also provides a toggle type mechanism used to add an undamaged circular flange onto the damaged flange of a cable drum. The toggle mechanism extends from the undamaged flange and may be expanded after having been passed through the central opening of the damaged flange. Expansion of the connector rigidly holds the undamaged flange on the end of the drum, with a spacer disc acting to maintain the flanges apart from one another.

  • Patent number: 4175483
Abstract: A donut making appliance includes upper and lower electrically heated grids movable into and out of mating engagement along first surfaces. Each of the first surfaces of the grids includes a predeterminedly placed annular recess having a central core. Upon bringing the grids into engagement, the recesses are aligned to define a toroidally shaped cavity in which cake or the like batter is placed for baking donut shaped cakes. The central core of the lower grid defines a well preferably having the shape of a truncated cone, open at the first surface of the grid. The central core of the upper grid comprises a plunger having a shape complementary to that of the well and extending outwardly from the first surface of the grid, for receipt in the well upon engagement of the grids. The plunger-well arrangement ensures the alignment of the recesses and the displacement of cooking oil deposited in the well upon bringing the grids into engagement.

  • Patent number: 4173317
Abstract: A sound generating mechanism for a fishing spinning reel comprises sounding teeth attached in a stationary manner to a spool spindle, and a sound generating element in mesh with the teeth. The sound generating element is formed of a strip of elastic material and incorporated with a support bent in a circular arc and in elastic contact with the inner periphery of the spool, an expansion portion, and a sound generating portion, so that when the spool is rotated to draw out a fishing line the support expands diametrically to jam onto the inner periphery of spool to thereby cause the sound generating portion to move relative to said teeth and make a sound, while, when rotated reversely the sound generating portion contracts to slide with respect to the inner periphery of the spool such that said sound generating portion does not move relative to said teeth and thereby generates no sound.

  • Patent number: 4172563
Abstract: A shut-off unit is disclosed. The shut-off unit is to be used to shut off a drive unit which drives a tubular shaft, the latter shaft being employed, in turn, to wind an awning or a roller blind up and down. More particularly, the drive unit includes an electric motor and a step down gear drive axially aligned therewith and the shut-off unit is adapted to be arrangeable in the drive unit so that the step down gear lies between it and the motor. Additionally, the shut-off unit includes switches for stopping the drive and members for operating such switches which have presettable positions dependent upon presettable positions of a driven part of the electric motor. In accordance with the invention, the aforesaid members are in the form of cams which have lobes and which are adapted to rotate as a function of the movement of the element to be wound and to be drivingly connectable to the central output shaft of the step down gear.

  • Patent number: 4170173
Abstract: A barbecue is fabricated from a cylindrical metal drum which is disposed with its axis horizontal. A dish made of transparent, heat-resistant glass is mounted in an aperture in the lid of the barbecue to provide a window. A plurality of vents are cut in the lower portion of the drum and fire brick is laid in the interior of the drum above the vents. The drum rests atop a scroll assembly which in turn rests atop a platform which is supported by vertically extending legs of a carriage. A plurality of turnbuckle assemblies connect the drum to the legs and may be tightened so that the drum, the scroll assembly, the platform, and the carriage are rigidly secured together. Air can flow through an interval between the drum and the scroll assembly, through the vents to burning coals supported on the fire brick.

  • Patent number: 4169483
Abstract: A device for cleaning compacted clay, fine gravels, sand, and other blocking agents from the inside of drill stems or drill bits. The device cleans away the unwanted matter by use of concentrated streams of high pressure liquid traveling at very high velocity aimed at the unwanted matter so as to erode it away. The device has one compressed gas cylinder attached to a liquid reservoir through a pressure regulating valve so as to keep the liquid in the reservoir under a constant pressure. The liquid is emitted through a nozzle containing many small holes through a pressure actuated valve. This assembly is disposed within a casing which forms a part of the drill string with the drill bit at one end of the casing. The nozzle extends to within a short distance of the drill bit.

  • Patent number: 4168778
Abstract: A box containing a roll of material such as a rope of tubular plastic netting, the roll having a passage extending through it axially. Each end of the box has a triangular aperture through it. When the roll rests on a first side of the box the apertures line up with the passage through the roll. In this position an arbor is inserted through the passage and the apertures. To dispense the material the box is turned over so that a second side, the side opposite the first side, is on the bottom. The arbor now rests on arbor-supporting edge portions of each aperture. The distance between each arbor-supporting edge portion and the second side is greater than the radius of the roll, so the roll is suspended above the second side of the box by means of the arbor. The roll then rotates freely in the box, permitting material to be unwound.
