  • Patent number: 5307399
Abstract: A telecommunications system that performs meet-me paging. The telecommunications system of this invention includes a paging system that is designed to receive calls from meet-me paging system subscribers. Once such a call is received, the system parks the call on hold while sending a page to the subscriber. The subscriber can then call the paging terminal to automatically be connected with the calling party. The system further includes a cordless telephone-2 system wherein each of the system subscribers is further provided with a portable handset from which he can access the publicly switched telephone network. Subscribers with the handset, upon receiving a meet-me page, can automatically dial the paging terminal to be connected to their calling parties. Thus, the telecommunications system of this invention provides a convenient means of providing subscribers with portable telephone service that allows them to both make outgoing calls and receive incoming calls.

  • Patent number: 5283817
Abstract: In a cordless key telephone system for covering multiple service areas, access units are divided into groups corresponding respectively to the service areas, the access units of each group being located in the corresponding service area for broadcasting a recurrent sequence of address signals on a two-way radio control channel and carrying speech signals on an assigned two-way telephone channel. The access units of each group has a uniquely assigned control channel different in frequency from the control channel of the other group. Cordless stations are switchable to the control channel of a first group of the access units for detecting an address signal and subsequently switchable to the control channel of the access units of a second group if the address signal is not detected in a first sequence for detecting the addressed signal in a second sequence.

  • Patent number: 5260986
Abstract: Disclosed is a method of utilizing a public switched telecommunications network which includes a voice messaging system (VMS) to provide a reliable and flexible notification service to deliver to designated persons a message which may be prestored or created at the time of initiating the notification. The list of persons to be notified is pre-established and permits multiple telephone numbers to be used to locate a single person or an alternate person. Pagers may be simultaneously or sequentially called requesting that the desired person call in for their message. The list of persons to be notified may be changed by the system coordinator from any DTMF telephone and the telephone numbers or pager numbers assigned to persons to be notified may be changed by such persons from any DTMF telephone. Alternatively the list may be created or changed by the coordinator using a personal computer or ASCII data type device.

  • Patent number: 5257307
Abstract: A radio pager system and pager terminal apparatus used in the system are disclosed. A pager signal to be transmitted includes destination information and message specifying information for specifying a message to be transmitted. The pager terminal apparatus includes a receiver for receiving an incoming pager signal, a detector for detecting that the received pager signal is a signal destined for the pager terminal apparatus, an extracting circuit for extracting message specifying information from the pager signal transmitted to the pager terminal apparatus and message displaying apparatus responsive to the extracted message specifying information for displaying a message corresponding to the extracted message specifying information in a visually recognizable manner. The radio pager system includes the above pager terminal apparatus, a station for transmitting via radio a pager signal, and transmission terminal apparatus for supplying the destination information and the message information to the station.

  • Patent number: 5241583
Abstract: A portable radio telephone has a keypad including a plurality of externally accessible keys. The keys can be disabled (i.e. the keypad can be locked) to prevent accidental actuation thereof by performing a predetermined order of keystrokes using two of the keys which ordinarily have an alternative function associated therewith. Thus, for example, depression of the # key followed by the ON/OFF key temporarily enables the keyboard lock. The lock can be disabled simply by repeating the same keystrokes.

  • Patent number: 5239572
Abstract: In a cordless key telephone system, access units are located in groups corresponding to service areas for broadcasting radio signals on a control channel or on an assigned speech channel to cordless stations. A main controller selects one of the access units for each service area in response to an incoming call from the switched telephone network and sends a first alert signal to the selected access units to cause them to broadcast a recurrent sequence of second alert signals containing the identifiers of standby cordless stations. The second alert signal is received by each standby cordless station and an ACK signal is transmitted if the received signal contains its identifier. The ACK signal is copied by each access unit for transmission to the main controller, whereupon it returns a proceed-to-assign signal if the number of the received copies of the ACK signals is equal to the number of all standby stations.

  • Patent number: 5231657
Abstract: A cordless telephone system includes a base unit connected to both a subscriber line and at least one branch telephone, and a mobile unit capable of being coupled to the base unit over a radio link. In the event that the handset of a branch telephone is switched on after a speech communication link has been established between the mobile unit and the subscriber line, an alarm may be provided to the user of the mobile unit. In addition, the user of the mobile unit may place the system in a holding state after a speech communication link has been established whereby the base unit and mobile unit maintain the speech communication link, but the mouthpiece of the mobile unit is disabled. In the event that the handset of a branch telephone is switched on, while the system is in a holding state, an alarm signal may be generated and output to a loud speaker at the mobile unit, and the mobile unit may be released from its holding state.

  • Patent number: 5220594
Abstract: A cordless telephone is comprised of a base unit, a handset unit, and a telephone answering machine (TAM) unit. In a normal communication mode, audio signals from the handset unit are coupled to the telephone line network through the base unit. In an automatic answering mode, an audio signal from the telephone line network is recorded at the TAM unit through the base unit. When a predetermined key of the handset unit is operated, a control signal is supplied to the TAM unit by way of a transmitting circuit in the handset unit, a receiving circuit in the base unit, a transmitting circuit in the base unit and a receiving circuit of the TAM unit to place the TAM unit in a reproduction mode, whereby previously recorded audio signals are reproduced and supplied to the handset unit via a transmitting circuit in the TAM unit, the receiving circuit in the base unit, the transmitting circuit in the base unit and a receiving circuit in the handset unit.

  • Patent number: 5210787
Abstract: In a cellular radio communications network a plurality of mobile switching centers have data access to a subscriber interrogation point which maintains a database identifying the home exchange of a plurality of mobile stations, the home exchanges of which are within a given region. When a roaming mobile subscriber seeks to register with a visited exchange, that exchange contacts a subscriber interrogation point identified in its own database as being associated with the roaming mobile in order to locate within the database of the subscriber interrogation point the home exchange of the mobile seeking to register. Maintenance of the home exchange identification information in the database of a subscriber interrogation point, rather than in the database of each potentially visited exchange, greatly simplifies database maintenance when the home exchange of a mobile station is changed.
