    Abstract: The invention describes an improved process for the sealing of alternating flutes of ‘honeycomb’ designed filters to be made after construction, or fabrication, of the basic filter structure, rather than during construction, as is shown in the prior art. The method seals both sides of the primary flutes as is typically done for one side in the prior art and then the media is rolled into a honeycomb shape so that secondary flutes, open on both sides of the roll are created. The roll is vertically orientated and then the lower end is immersed into a sealing compound to such a depth which will cause the sealing compound to travel up into the lower portion of the roll to a height above the height of the lower seal for the primary flutes. The sealing compound is allowed to cure, effectively sealing the secondary flutes. The roll is then cut along a line located above the height of the lower seal for the primary flutes and before the top surface of the sealing compound in the secondary flutes.

A method for producing a preformed structure composed of the stepped semi-hardened product and a simple shaped semi-hardened product is also provided.

    Abstract: Methods for forming a single-side-readable DVD having graphical information viewable from the DVD's frontside disc are provided. A first, frontside disc having a first and a second surface, with the second surface comprising program information and coated with a semi-reflective coating, is bonded to a second, backside disc having a third and a fourth surface. A first portion of the fourth surface comprises spillover program information and a second portion of the fourth surface comprises graphical information. The fourth surface is coated with a reflective coating. During DVD formation, the frontside and backside discs are adhesively bonded back to back so that the second surface of the frontside disc faces the fourth surface of the backside disc. Because the frontside disc comprises a semi-reflective coating, the graphical information on the second portion of the fourth surface of the backside disc is viewable through the frontside disc.

    Abstract: A method of repairing or refurbishing a filter screen is described. The type of screen is defined in the specification. The repair or refurbishment is effected by stripping worn or damaged wirecloth from the surface of the frame and placing fresh cloth over the frame and tensioning it as appropriate. Heat is then applied so as to soften surfaces of the frame over which wirecloth is stretched, so that the latter can penetrate softened plastics material in the surfaces and become embedded therein. The frame and its associated fresh cloth is allowed to cool, after which the applied tensioning is removed. Exposed edges of the wirecloth can be trimmed back to the surrounding flange. Plastics material may be applied to the surface of the frame which is to receive the new wirecloth, before the latter is fitted, to provide additional plastics material for bonding the wirecloth to the frame.

    Abstract: A machine for producing corrugated cardboard incorporates a corrugating roll and a glue roll extending parallel to the former in such a way that a glue gap is formed between the two. To adjust the glue gap, the bearing of the glue roll is pushed against the bearing of the corrugating roll with a contact-pressure force A. By means of an adjusting unit the distance of the two bearings is reduced until the force of the bearing contact pressure, which is measured by a force measuring unit, decreases due to a contact occuring between the glue roll and the corrugating roll. The glue roll may have stop rings at its ends to prevent a direct contact between the glue roll and the corrugating roll.

    Abstract: A method for repairing a composite structure is herein disclosed, as well as a corresponding structure repaired using such methods. The structural repair method is a new fill-and-patch-type system that generally includes forming a recess in the structure and placing both a threaded insert and a potting material in the recess. Generally after the potting material has hardened, a patch is adhered to the potting material-filled recess, and a fixture is disposed over the recess. By directing a threaded fastener through the fixture and into the threaded insert, the fixture is drawn toward the structure and compresses the patch against the filled recess via the threaded fastener being tightened to supply sufficient compressional force to assist in bonding the patch to the repaired structure.

    Abstract: A pipe repair apparatus includes an outer carrier tube, an inner bladder tube within the carrier tube, and a repair sleeve within the bladder tube. The bladder tube and the carrier tube are formed by one unitary tube which is folded back upon itself. A wick extends from the repair sleeve to the rear end of the bladder tube and permits evacuation of gases from the bladder tube when the bladder tube is flattened by a vacuum during insertion of a curable resin into the bladder tube at its forward end. The bladder tube can be inverted out of the carrier tube so as to place the repair sleeve in contact with an area to be repaired within a sewer pipe. This method may also be used to repair the damaged joint between a lateral sewer line and a main sewer line.

    Abstract: The invention relates to methods of fabricating an absorbent article. In one method of the invention, combination containment flaps and leg cuffs are formed on a common substrate. A plurality of elastomeric elements are included in the combination article to assist in forming containment flaps. Discrete leg cuff pieces are applied to the substrate at longitudinally spaced locations. In some embodiments, a cutting device slits the substrate substantially along a center line extending the length of the substrate, forming two continuous substrate portions. A glue gun applies adhesive to the substrate portion. The substrate portions are folded lengthwise, using the adhesive to form integral containment flaps and leg cuffs in a composite substrate. The composite substrate is secured to an absorbent article web sausage in forming absorbent articles. In another embodiment, the substrate is a first substrate which supports elastomeric elements used in forming leg cuffs and containment flaps.

    Abstract: A structural panel has one or more face sheets bonded by adhesive layers to a core body having two outer plastic liner sheets fusion-bonded to linear ends of inner plastic truss elements spaced apart with open spaces therebetween extending in a plane direction of the plastic liner sheets. The sheet-to-sheet adhesive bonding provides a high-strength laminate bonding that is very resistant to delamination, simple and inexpensive, and can be carried out by a preferred continuous sheet bonding technique. The all-plastic core body is highly resistant to moisture attack, and the open spaces between truss elements provide flexibility to accommodate thermal expansion and contraction. The truss construction of the core body provides high compressive and shear strength, while minimizing the amount of material required to be used. In one preferred embodiment, two metal face sheets are used, and the core body has plastic liner sheets fusion-bonded to a corrugated plastic core sheet.
