  • Patent number: 6540852
Abstract: An apparatus and methods of manufacturing seamless gaskets using expanded intercalated graphite worms, in which an annular die cavity has a central column with a charge inlet in a perimeter wall. Expanded intercalated graphite worms communicate from a source through the charge inlet in the annular die cavity for depositing a charge of expanded intercalated graphite worms within the die cavity. An upper pusher is movable from a first position distally spaced from an open end of the die cavity to a second position within the die cavity for compressing a first charge of expanded intercalated graphite worms. A lower pusher is movable from a first position to a second position during the compressing of the first charge of expanded intercalated graphite worms in the die. The upper pusher causes the lower pusher to move to the second position, so that a second charge of expanded intercalated graphite worms is received in substantially the same volume as the first charge.

  • Patent number: 6531015
Abstract: In a method of forming a composite web structure that is finishable to form a disposable absorbent garment, a topsheet assembly is formed having a pair of longitudinally-extending, elasticized leg cuffs. The topsheet assembly is then applied on a core assembly to create a first web structure assembly. A backsheet assembly is also formed which includes a backsheet material, and this backsheet assembly is applied on the first web structure assembly to form a second web structure assembly. Then, the second web structure assembly is cut at one or more locations to form the finishable composite web structure. The step of forming a topsheet assembly generally includes providing two webs of topsheet material and two webs of elastic material; applying each web of elastic material onto one of the webs of topsheet material to form two subsequent webs; and folding each of the subsequent webs about the elastic material to create an assembly having elasticized leg cuffs.

  • Patent number: 6478066
Abstract: A corrugator unit, particularly for sheets or webs of paper, or similar, of the type comprising at least two rolls (1, 2), having a toothed or corrugated surface (101, 202), and being mutually engaged and pushed against each other by a predetermined pressure or force. The invention provides that the mutual compression between rolls (1, 2) is exerted (4, 5, 106, 21, 22, 25, 26) over the whole axial length of the rolls (1, 2). This may be obtained through mechanical (6) or magnetic (21, 22, 23, 25, 26) means.

  • Patent number: 6478917
Abstract: This invention relates to a process for manufacturing a ski, or like board for gliding over snow, which comprises, on the surface, embedded elements constituted by elements of additional protecting and decorative layers, these elements being flush with the surface of the ski. According to the invention, the protecting and decorative sheet is laid flat, before being placed in the mould, and the thin elements to be embedded are added thereon by bonding. The assembly of the ski elements is then moulded conventionally, with the result that the inner, uniformly smooth surface of the lid of the mould presses on the additional elements and consequently embeds them in the protecting and decorative sheet.

  • Patent number: 6475318
Abstract: A method is disclosed for creating a design that appears to float in the face of a piece of material. A piece of fusible material is placed on top of a first piece of material. The fusible material is coated with an adhesive. The non-adhesive side of the fusible material is in contact with the face side of the first piece of material. The fusible material is sewn to the first piece of material. The stitches define the periphery of an unbroken design. The fusible material is trimmed outside the periphery of the unbroken design. Next, the fusible material and the fabric are trimmed inside the unbroken design to create an aperture. The fusible material is pulled through the aperture so that the adhesive is substantially interposed between fusible material the reverse side of the first piece of material. The fusible material is then fused to the reverse side of the first piece of material. A second piece of material is placed on the reverse side of the piece of fabric to cover the aperture.

  • Patent number: 6468371
Abstract: A method for the production of a molded part, particularly of a shell part for a motor vehicle or aircraft passenger seat, uses plastic material and a mold acted upon with a working pressure. A receiving part receives an adhering part being molded to the molded part, and is embedded with adhering elements found on a support. The adhering part is supported against the effect of the working pressure generated during the molding process by a barbed hook surface arranged in the receiving part. The hooked surface is formed by a plurality of projecting barbed hooks, engaged in the intermediate spaces between the adhering elements of the adhering part such that the support is placed on the points of the barbed hooks.

  • Patent number: 6409859
Abstract: An electronic package or module is protected by a lid sealed with a thermoplastic or thermosetting adhesive laminate that has been pre-applied onto the lid, including the bonding area of the lid. The adhesive is deposited as wet adhesive or is laminated in sheet format onto a sheet of the material of which the lids are to be formed. The adhesive is dried or B-staged to become a solid sheet preform, as by solvent removal or chemical cross-linking, respectively. The lids are then formed from the laminate of lid material and adhesive, as by thermo-forming or by stamping. The lid and adhesive materials may be electrically insulating, or may be electrically conductive so as to replace soldered lids in providing electromagnetic interference protection. In some cases, the adhesive may be thermally conductive and be utilized in combination with thermally conductive interface material that is in direct contact with heat generating devices covered by the lid.
