Abstract: The invention is a method for estimating a skeletal maturity value of a human from a radiograph of one or more bones in the hand. The borders of the bones are represented by shape points, which are subjected to principal component analysis (PCA). Image intensities are sampled at points located relative to the shape point, and also compressed with PCA. From the features a skeletal maturity value is determined.
Abstract: The instant invention discloses a method for an orientation measuring instrument to isolate and separate gravitational and non-gravitational components of acceleration from accelerometer measurements by using an ambient magnetic field, typically the earth's magnetic field, as a fixed rotation reference. Using magnetic field measurements, one can track changes in orientation of a device and use that information to determine the gravitation direction, during periods when acceleration measurements include non-gravitational acceleration combined with gravitational acceleration components. In addition to determining orientation, a method and associated instrument provide a non-gravity acceleration vector of the device.

Abstract: Test systems and methodologies are provided and may include platforms for developing test programs for automated testing. In one example, tester and instruments are isolated from the tester OS, permitting any OS to be used. In another, a user layer is isolated from the physical layer, permitting hardware-independent development and usability among different tester platforms. In another, test program execution is isolated from tester platform OS, permitting test program function independent from tester platform. In another embodiment, functions are only added, existing links to functions are not broken, ensuring continued operation with new software, hardware and/or features. Systems may be non-deterministic. In one example, the non-deterministic computer is required to execute computer instructions within a constant execution time. A deterministic engine may be used to wait a variable amount of time to ensure constant execution time.

Abstract: Methods for distributing a random variable by spatial interpolation with statistical corrections. The method includes assigning a numerical value of the random variable at each vertex of an array of equilateral triangles formed in a planar coordinate frame and defining a plurality of test points at respective spatial locations in the planar coordinate frame that are bounded by the array of equilateral triangles. A numerical value of the random variable is distributed at each of the test points by spatial interpolation from one or more of the numerical values of the random variable assigned at each vertex of the array of equilateral triangles. The method further includes adjusting the numerical value of the random variable distributed at each of the test points with a respective correction factor.

Abstract: A technology is provided in which it is not necessary to modify a system on a production side, and in which man-hours required for registering an environmental load value on a supplier side are not increased, in cases of an item having a mismatch between units, in a process of adding up the environmental load values of a post-production product. The technology includes generating correction information for calculating the environmental load that is registered by the supplier at design time, and calculating the environmental load value at design time by using the correction information. In cases of calculating the environmental load value of a product actually produced from a designed product, the environmental load value is calculated using the correction information generated at design time.

Abstract: A system and method for monitoring performance of a wireless network are disclosed. According to one described example, at least one probe is generated. In the example, the probe determines the portion of a wireless network to monitor, the type of the probe, and the number and frequency of the probe or probes to target a specific carrier, a specific system, or a specific geographical area. A probe server generates the probe based on a parameter specified by the user and transmits the probe to a plurality of posts or to the wireless network. In the example, the probe server controls the posts to send and receive probes to the wireless network. In response to the received probes, the wireless network responds by sending feedback information, which can be used to indicate how the wireless network is performing.

Abstract: In a travel angle detection system for a mobile object having a detector installed in the mobile object to produce angular velocity outputs successively, the detector outputs are read and one output is determined as a provisional calibration value indicative of zero-point. Integrated values of differences between the calibration value and successive outputs and output variation width are calculated. When they are within predetermined permissible ranges, the mobile object is determined to be in static condition and the calibration value is corrected by an average value of the integrated values. The travel angle of the mobile object is detected from the calibrated outputs of the detector, thereby achieving accurate calibration of detector output by enabling accurate determination of the static condition.

Abstract: Systems and methods for high-speed image scanning are disclosed herein One aspect of the invention is directed to a method for high speed image scanning. The method for high speed image scanning includes adjusting an object using a positioning element; directing a portion of an image of the object toward a sensor by positioning a first mirror relative to the object, and by positioning a second mirror relative to the object and the first mirror; controlling the positioning element, the position of the first mirror and the position of the second mirror using a processor; and detecting the portion of the image of the object using the sensor positioned relative to the first mirror and the second mirror. In accord with this method, the first mirror directs the portion of the image of the object in a first direction and the second mirror directs the portion of the image of the object in a second direction.
