  • Patent number: 8913594
Abstract: A Mobile Switching Center (MSC) of a CDMA telecommunications wireless network which includes a CDMA mobile station (MS), a CDMA base station (BS), a CDMA HLR, and an Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD) Gateway. The MSC is capable of receiving a MS initiated USSD request from the BS, determining if the subscriber is authorized to use USSD services and if authorized constructing a MAP message containing the USSD Request which is then sent to a USSD Gateway identified by subscriber profile information received during registration. The MSC is also capable of identifying MAP messaging it receives that contains USSD messaging, constructing an IOS message that contains the USSD messaging and sending the IOS message to the BS which in turn sends it to the MS.

  • Patent number: 8913530
Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed for selecting resources for direct device to device (D2D) communications in a cellular communication network. Preferably, resources for the direct D2D communications are selected to minimize, or at least substantially reduce, interference that results from the direct D2D communications in the cellular communication network. In general, either an uplink resource or a downlink resource of the cellular communication network is selected for a direct D2D communication link between a first wireless device and a second wireless device in order to minimize, or at least substantially reduce, interference caused to a third wireless device that uses the same uplink and downlink resources in the same and/or a neighboring cell of the cellular communication network.

  • Patent number: 8908649
Abstract: A method, an apparatus and a system for selecting a downlink primary carrier for transmitting data are disclosed. The method includes the following steps: A terminal obtains primary carrier selection information configured by a network; and the terminal determines a downlink carrier corresponding to an uplink carrier of the terminal as a downlink primary carrier for transmitting data according to the primary carrier selection information. In the embodiments of the present invention, the network selects a downlink carrier corresponding to an uplink carrier of the terminal as a downlink primary carrier for transmitting data. The terminal needs to detect only the downlink primary carrier, and the downlink carrier needs to be switched or detected only if the primary carrier receives a signaling message for detecting or receiving other carriers, so it is not necessary to switch or detect the downlink carrier frequently, which reduces battery consumption of the terminal.

  • Patent number: 8885558
Abstract: A method enables a radio receiver to distinguish sensor probes supplying data to the receiver over a long period of time. The method includes each probe generating a random number sent to the receiver to identify the probe. Each probe and the receiver also uses a pseudo-random process to identify a time of transmission for each probe. The pseudo-random process helps keep the transmission times for the probes separate in the presence of oscillator drift. If a transmission collision occurs, the receiver ignores all probes in the collision and waits until the pseudo-random process separates the probe transmissions.

  • Patent number: 8842620
Abstract: The present application describes embodiments of methods and apparatuses that may be used to accommodate different reference symbol patterns. One embodiment of the method includes identifying overlapping resource element(s) in a resource block by comparing a first pattern of resource elements associated with first reference symbols to a second pattern of resource elements associated with second reference symbols. This embodiment also includes transmitting the first and second reference symbols in the overlapping resource element(s) when first and second antenna ports allocated for transmission of the first and second reference symbols in the overlapping resource element(s) are the same. Transmission of the first reference symbol in the overlapping resource elements is bypassed when the first and second antenna ports are different.

  • Patent number: 8811173
Abstract: In one embodiment, a plurality of queues are established corresponding to each of a plurality mobiles, respectively. Data packets associated with the plurality of mobiles are received at a network element. Each received data packet is assigned to a corresponding one of the plurality of queues. A determination operation is performed on a selected one of the plurality of queues to determine whether or not to send one or more packets of each queue from the network gateway element. The determination operation is performed based on a comparison between a packet size of a head packet and an adaptive transmission threshold value associated with the selected queue. The adaptive transmission threshold value is a value that is changed based on an amount data sent from the selected queue. The head data packet being an earliest received data packet in the selected queue.

  • Patent number: 8699407
Abstract: This invention discloses a method and apparatus for scheduling radio resources among service flows for services supported in a MIMO-OFDM wireless communication system. Preferably a portion of radio resources for allocation is expressed as bandwidth or slots in different units. The method comprises a first stage and a second stage of scheduling. The first stage guarantees supporting minimum data rates for different services. The second stage aims to satisfy a requirement of not exceeding maximum data rates for different services as well as to optimize the spectrum efficiency. Each stage comprises: selecting a primary flow according to prioritization of service flows; allocating a portion of resources for the primary flow; selecting one or more secondary flows if there is resource remaining available, so as to optimize spectrum efficiency when transmitting with the primary flow in the same SDMA region; and allocating a portion of resources to each secondary flow.
