Abstract: A chemically-hardening two-component material based on polyurethane is provided, having a first component being a prepolymer with isocyanate end groups and a second component being a product which has been obtained from that prepolymer with isocyanate end groups by reacting it with a reactive compound which has at least two active groups, containing active hydrogen and which do not react identically with isocyanate. The prepolymer is a reaction product of an aliphatic or aromatic di-isocyanate with a polyol.Such a material can be produced by reacting a prepolymer which contains isocyanate end groups, with a second component, which, in turn, has resulted from a prepolymer with isocyanate end groups by reacting with a reactive compound which has at least two molecule groups, containing hydrogen and reacting differently with isocyanate. The material is especially suitable as a self-hardening gluing, coating, sealing and molding material.

C.

Abstract: There are provided moisture-permeable, antistatic, and oil-resistant work gloves made of film of water-insoluble, hydrophilic polyurethane resin having hydrophilic groups and/or hydrophilic segments in the main chains and/or side chains. They are produced by applying an organic solvent solution of water-insoluble, hydrophilic polyurethane resin having hydrophilic groups and/or hydrophilic segments in the main chains and/or side chains, to the surface of a glove form or the surface of a glove form on which is put a glove substrate, drying the applied solution, and stripping the deposit film from the form.
Abstract: Reaction injection molded polyurea elastomers are disclosed that are derived from the reaction of (1) an aromatic polyisocyanate; (2) primary or secondary amine terminated polyethers; and (3) an aromatic amine extender combination comprising (a) an aromatic diamine having at least one of the positions ortho to each amine group substituted by a lower alkyl group and (b) a polymethylene polyphenylamine. The use of the polymethylene polyphenylamine component allows for the retention of the good physical properties of the prior art polyureas while at the same time effecting a cost reduction in the preparation of this useful class of polymers.
Abstract: This invention relates to a process for the production of solid polyamines stabilized by a polyadduct covering and showing retarded reactivity comprising reacting(1) one or more solid organic polyamines in particulate form, said polyamines containing at least two primary and/or secondary amino groups and having melting points above 50.degree. C., and(2) from 0.1 to 25 equivalent % of isocyanate per amine equivalent of a water insoluble, difunctional and/or higher functional polyisocyanate, said reaction being conducted at a temperature below the melting point of said solid polyamine, and being conducted in the presence of(3) a liquid medium selected from the group consisting of(a) organic compounds containing two or more hydroxy groups and having molecular weights of from 62 to 10,000,(b) plasticizers,(c) water, and(d) mixtures thereofto form a suspension of polyadduct-covered stabilized polyamines in the liquid medium.

Abstract: Isocyanate-derived foams are prepared from an isocyanate, catalyst, blowing agent, foam stabilizing surfactant and at least two active hydrogen-containing compounds wherein one of the active hydrogen-containing compounds is an alkylene oxide polymer having an equivalent of at least 300 and being composed of at least about 10 weight percent, based on a total weight of the polymerized alkylene oxide in the polymer, of a polymerized ethylene oxide.

Abstract: Graft polymer dispersions in a polyol are prepared by a continuous process employing in situ free radical polymerization of an ethylenically unsaturated monomer in a polyol containing from about 0.001 to 0.09 mole of induced unsaturation per mole of polyol in the presence of an effective amount of a chain transfer agent. Products prepared by this process have uniform viscosity with resulting product uniformity. Polyurethane foams incorporating flame retardants prepared from these dispersions readily pass the California No. 117 Flame Test.
Abstract: An esterfication process particularly for the preparation of polyesters and polymeric esters wherein aliphatic or aromatic carboxylic acids are reacted with appropriate alcohols in the presence of catalytic amounts of calcium bis[monoethyl(3,5-di-tert-butyl-4-hydroxybenzyl) phosphonate], the presence of said phosphonate serving to reduce the time necessary for complete esterification and to provide esters with increased oxidation stability and better color.
Abstract: The process relates to a method of improving the color and/or reducing the oxidized acids content of the disproportionated product obtained by heating rosin acids in rosin and tall oil with a catalyst comprising iodine, an iron compound and ammonia, an ammonium salt or an amine. The improvement comprises a pretreatment step in which the starting material is heated with an effective amount not in excess of 0.5% by weight of elemental sulphur, based on the weight of starting material for a period, usually less than one hour. As little as 0.1% by weight of sulphur is sufficient in most cases.
Abstract: A coating composition that can be cured with a vaporous amine catalyst, cured by baking at elevated temperatures or can be cured at ambient temperatures which has as the binderA. an acrylic polymer containing hydroxyl groups and amine containing groups and has a weight average molecular weight of about 2,000-50,000 andB. an aliphatic polyisocyanate.
Abstract: Disclosed is a method of improving the color of tall oil rosin esters comprising the sequential steps of (a) heating and stirring a tall oil rosin in the presence of a Lewis acid catalyst to form a mixture, (b) distilling the mixture to provide a tall oil rosin distillate, and (c) esterifying the tall oil rosin distillate with a polyol in the presence of a phenol sulfide compound. The improved tall oil rosin esters produced thereby are useful in the manufacture of a variety of products, such as paper and textile sizes, plasticizers for polyolefin films, paints, varnishes, hot melt adhesives and pressure sensitive adhesives.

Abstract: This invention is an improvement in a process by which a polyepoxide and a polyisocyanate are reacted to form an oxazolidone containing polymer or polymer precursor. This improvement comprises conducting said reaction in the presence of a catalytic amount of an organoantimony iodide catalyst. In such improved process, the oxazolidone forming reaction proceeds much more rapidly than the trimerization reaction of the polyisocyanate or the homopolymerization of the polyepoxide. As a result, the product polymer or polymer precursor contains a surprisingly small proportion of isocyanurates. In addition, the overall rate of reaction is substantially increased as compared to that achieved with conventional catalysts, thereby reducing the time and stringency of conditions required to form the desired product.
Abstract: The invention relates to s-triazine radical-containing polyether polyol mixtures having functionalities of from 2 to 6 and hydroxyl numbers of from 210 to 640, prepared by the oxyalkylation of a mixture of one or more polyamino-1,3,5-triazines, preferably melamine, and an alkanol having a hydroxyl functionality of from 2 to 6 and having 2 to 18 carbon atoms, water, or their mixtures, in the absence of catalysts and conventional inert polar solvents. The resulting polyether polyol mixtures are suitable for the preparation of rigid polyurethane, polyisocyanurate, and urethane group-containing polyisocyanuate foams produced by means of the polyisocyanate polyaddition process.
Abstract: The invention provides salts of methyl phosphonic acid and its mono- or di-methyl ester with certain amines. The salts are useful flame retardant additives for polyurethanes and polyisocyanurates.
