Abstract: A method of enhancing a geologic model of a subsurface region is provided. A bed topography of the subsurface region is obtained. The bed topography is defined by a plurality of cells with an elevation associated with each cell center. The bed topography is represented as a cell-centered piecewise constant representation based on the elevations associated with the cells. The bed topography is reconstructed to produce a spatially continuous surface. Flux and gravitational force-related source terms are calculated based on the reconstructed bed topography. Fluxes are calculated between at least two of the cells. Fluid flow, deposition of sediments onto the bed, and/or erosion of sediments from the bed are predicted using the fluxes and gravitational force-related source terms. The predictions are inputted into the geologic model to predict characteristics of the subsurface region, and the predicted characteristics are outputted.

  • Patent number: 10133835
Abstract: A system and method are provided for reducing processing time in characterizing a programmably implemented cell. The cell is decomposed into a plurality of channel connected component portions (CCC's), each including a local output node and at least one switching device establishing a conduction channel within a channel path extending from the local output node to a power plane of the cell. A component characteristic function is generated for each CCC, which logically sums a locus of vectors for nodes electrically connected to the local output node. Each CCC's component characteristic function is expanded to form a local characteristic function relative to one or more other upstream CCC. Each local characteristic function is thereby formed exclusive of any upstream local output node electrically disconnected from its local output node. At least one feasible vector is selectively generated from the local characteristic functions according to requirements predefined for a parametric measurement.

  • Patent number: 9799045
Abstract: Methods, systems, and techniques for determining the vertical alignment of an infrastructure corridor having a certain horizontal alignment involve using a processor to model the cost of constructing the infrastructure corridor as a function of cost variables that vary with the vertical alignment of the infrastructure corridor. The processor looks up the cost variables at vertical offsets corresponding to certain vertical alignments of the infrastructure corridor and determines the cost of constructing the length of road at elevations located between pairs of the vertical offsets by interpolating from the cost variables at the vertical offsets; the interpolation may be linear. The processor determines, subject to infrastructure corridor design constraints, the vertical alignment of the infrastructure corridor from the cost of constructing the infrastructure corridor at the vertical offsets.

  • Patent number: 9792555
Abstract: A method for probabilistic fatigue life prediction using nondestructive testing data considering uncertainties from nondestructive examination (NDE) data and fatigue model parameters. The method utilizes uncertainty quantification models for detection, sizing, fatigue model parameters and inputs. A probability of detection model is developed based on a log-linear model coupling an actual flaw size with a nondestructive examination (NDE) reported size. A distribution of the actual flaw size is derived for both NDE data without flaw indications and NDE data with flaw indications by using probabilistic modeling and Bayes theorem. A turbine rotor example with real world NDE inspection data is presented to demonstrate the overall methodology.

  • Patent number: 9785802
Abstract: Method of modelling the evolution of the pH value of a porous medium after injection of an alkaline agent solution into this medium. The alkaline agent is considered as a soda pseudo-constituent of concentration equal to an OH— concentration corresponding to the pH value of the alkaline agent solution injected. An adsorption equation calibrated to experimental data is then used to determine an amount of soda pseudo-constituent adsorbed, from the concentration of the soda pseudo-constituent. Finally, the evolution of the pH value is modelled by modelling the transport of the alkaline agent solution by means of a soda transport simulator, by replacing the soda by the soda pseudo-constituent.

  • Patent number: 9697020
Abstract: The automatic generation of a real-time scheduler for scheduling the execution of tasks on a real-time system is disclosed. The scheduler may allow task overruns in the execution of the tasks on the real-time system. The task overruns may occur when the execution of a task for a current sample hit is not completed before a next sample hit. When the task overruns occur, the scheduler may delay the execution of the task for the next sample hit until the execution of the task for the current sample hit is completed. The execution of the task for the next sample hit is performed after the execution of the task for the current sample hit is completed.

  • Patent number: 9678776
Abstract: Suppressing enabled newer facilities of an older simulated machine. This makes the native machine appear just like the corresponding older simulated machine. The invention creates the Allowed Facilities Table (AFT) that includes all the facilities of each simulated machine that needs to be supported and queries all the installed facilities of the simulated machine. It reads each machine facility of the simulated machine and checks the AFT that includes the state of all the facilities that are allowed to be enabled for the simulated machine to see if this installed facility is also enabled in the AFT. If the installed facility is also enabled in the AFT, then this facility may be used by the software without any problems. Otherwise, this facility should not be used. A system and program product for carrying out the method are included.

  • Patent number: 9665693
Abstract: Methods for generating molecular formula distributions beyond a predetermined threshold for a petroleum stream are disclosed. An initial molecular formula distribution within a predetermined threshold is obtained for a petroleum stream. A correlation between two or more molecular properties of the initial molecular formula distribution is identified, and the initial molecular formula distribution is extrapolated beyond the predetermined threshold along the correlation. The extrapolated molecular formula is renormalized based on renormalization data obtained from the sample. The renormalized molecular formula distribution can then be blended with the initial molecular formula distribution, reconciled to secondary analytical measurements, and/or used to create a model of composition and/or a molecular composition-based model of a resid upgrading process. Systems for implementing the methods are also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 9607115
Abstract: Techniques for reporting realistic kinetic energy of a multi-part FEA model are disclosed. FEA model representing a product is received. The product contains more than one parts, each part comprises multiple finite elements. Nodal lumped masses are defined therein to ensure a realistic mass distribution. Kinetic energy of the nodal lumped masses shared by multiple parts is acutely computed for the shared parts. Each of the nodal lumped masses is allocated and accumulated into respective portions as an added mass contribution in accordance with a set of predefined rules for various sharing situations of the finite elements that share the nodal lumped mass. Numerically-simulated structural responses are obtained by conducting a time marching simulation using the FEA model. Finally, kinetic energy of each finite element is reported; calculated using the obtained structural responses, the element mass, and the corresponding added mass contribution from the nodal lumped masses.
