Abstract: Implant assemblies and methodologies provide immuno-protection for implanted allografts, xenografts, and isografts. The assemblies and methodologies establish a boundary between the host and the implanted cells. The boundary has a pore size, an ultimate strength, and a metabolic transit value that assures the survival of the cells during the critical ischemic period and afterward. The boundary allows the fabrication and clinical use of implant assemblies and methodologies that can carry enough cells to be of therapeutic value to the host, yet occupy a relatively small, compact area within the host.

Abstract: A cellular telephone system includes a plurality of base stations which cover a plurality of cells. The system also includes a plurality of portable telephones communicable with the base station over radio frequency channels. A base station covering a given cell transmits an IM control signal indicating that there exists IM interference in the given cell. In response to the IM control signal, each of the portable telephones reduces its receiver sensitivity, so that the IM interference can be alleviated.
Abstract: An I/O control system in a virtual machine system has at least one virtual machine (VM) running under control of a virtual machine control program (VMCP) and has a direct I/O execution mode in which an I/O interruption to the I/O device dedicated by the running VM is directly executed without intervention of the VMCP and an indirect I/O execution mode in which the I/O interruption is simulated. The I/O control system comprises identification portion for identifying the I/O device requesting the switching to the direct I/O execution mode, judge portion for judging a mode switching condition and mode selection portion for selecting one of the two modes.
Abstract: An improved magneto-optical disc memory with a ferroelectric liquid crystal (FLC) is shown. As FLC a chiral smectic liquid crystal is employed to exhibit a hysteresis between a pair of substrates which have easy polarization axes normal to each other Informations to be recorded are written on the disc in terms of a binary system by use of the hysteresis.
