  • Patent number: 4839124
Abstract: An improved process for controlling and reducing the concentration of free carboxyl end groups in condensation polyester melt spun fiber is provided. By selection of a multifunctional compound, it is possible to increase the intrinsic viscosity of the fiber. The process comprises admixing and reacting with molten polyester polymer an effective amount of a lactim compound of the formula ##STR1## wherein n is an integer of 2 to 15;m is an integer of 1 to 4;R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are independently hydrogen, halogen, nitro, amine, C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 alkyl, C.sub.5 -C.sub.12 cycloalkyl, C.sub.7 -C.sub.9 alkyl aromatic, or C.sub.6 -C.sub.10 aromatic; andR.sub.3 is a mono- to tetravalent organic radical selected from the group consisting of C.sub.1 -C.sub.32 alkyl, C.sub.5 -C.sub.14 cycloalkyl, C.sub.7 -C.sub.16 alkyl aromatic, and C.sub.6 -C.sub.14 aromatic. The lactim reacted polymer is then melt spun to form a fiber.

  • Patent number: 4839132
Abstract: Oriented polymeric monofilaments having a diameter of at least about 60 mils and excellent uniformity in roundness, are prepared in which a core of semi-crystalline linear condensation polymer is melt extruded, quenched to a substantially void-free condition, coated with additional polymer to increase the diameters by about from 10 to 100 mils, quenched to a substantially void-free condition, and oriented by drawing about 3.5 times its original length within the orientation temperature range of the polymer.

  • Patent number: 4839112
Abstract: Methods for fabricating low dimensionally electroconductive articles comprising cofacially stacking organomacrocycles and as cofacially stacking phthalocyanines, in which a composition comprising a cofacially stacking phthalocyanine in strong Bronsted acid is formed into a desired shape such as a fiber or film, solidified by removal of the solvent, and provided in fractional valence state.

  • Patent number: 4836507
Abstract: Directly spinning highly oriented staple fibers of para-aramids using a dry-jet wet-spinning process in which the filaments in the gap between the spinneret and the coagulating fluid are attenuated with a liquid jetted symmetrically about the filaments at a rate sufficient to break the filaments intermittently to form staple length fibers that taper along their length from an enlarged head.

  • Patent number: 4832592
Abstract: An apparatus for making hollow objects comprises a preform core neck ring arrangment which include a support frame and thereon having a core with a base and a projecting portion, core neck ring segments disposed adjacent the base of the core to form a neck mold when in a closed position, a preform mold having a cavity for receiving the projecting portion, and means supported on the support frame for relatively moving the neck ring segments and core through means for maintaining the segments closed and moving the neck mold relative to the core in the direction of the longitudinal axis of the core, away from the base, and then moving the neck ring segments laterally away from the longitudinal axis of the core.

  • Patent number: 4830811
Abstract: A method for molding double-layered preforms in an injection, stretching and blow molding machine. Plastic material is injected into a cavity formed by a mated inner preform and core mold and into another cavity formed by a mated outer preform, neck mold and a core mold carrying an inner preform to form respectively inner and outer preforms. The inner core mold is lifted, while carrying an inner preform, and moved over the outer preform mold. The outer core mold is lifted and the neck mold strips the double-layer preform formed by the injection of the outer preform onto the inner preform. The neck mold carrying the double-layer preform is moved away from alignment with the outer preform mold and advances the preform to heating, stretching and blow molding stages. Another neck mold is moved into alignment with the outer preform mold prior to lowering the core mold carrying the inner preform into the outer preform mold.

  • Patent number: 4828775
Abstract: A process for preparing a profile of thermotropic polymer having a large cross-section, with improved tensile strength and tensile elasticity moduli, comprising first forming a bundle of fibers or filaments of at least one thermotropic polymer and continuously heating the thus formed bundle to a temperature sufficient to form an anisotropic melt and then passing the anisotropic melt through a shape-giving unit.

  • Patent number: 4826550
Abstract: A process for preparing a molded product of thermochromic polyvinyl chloride characterized by incorporating a thermochromic particulate material into a vinyl chloride plastisol comprising a vinyl chloride resin, plasticizer, stabilizer, lubricant and filler, and molding the resulting mixture. The thermochromic particulate material is prepared from particles of a non-thermoplastic resin having encapusated therein the three components of electron-donating chromogenic substance, electron-accepting substance and solvent by coating the particles with a hydrophilic high-molecular-weight compound.

  • Patent number: 4808354
Abstract: A method for fabricating electrical discharge machining electrodes includes forming a thin electrode shell by compression molding a mixture of carbon particles and an organic binder. The electrode shell is then thermally processed to graphitize the organic binder and carbon producing an electrode with the structural integrity needed so as to be useful in electrical discharge machining.
