Abstract: A system and method for enabling a Meta Object Facility (MOF) and a Java Metadata Interface (JMI) compliant service to access program resources. A system includes a metamodel repository and an application server. The metamodel repository is configured to store the program resources including metadata and one or more metamodels. The application server includes at least one application providing a first portion of the program resources. A first portion of the program resources are stored in a database associated with the application server. A second portion of the program resources are provided in at least one application of the application server, and programming language instances of the program resources are received by one or more applications independent of where the program resources are stored or provided.

Abstract: A data-driven, hierarchical information search and navigation system and method enable search and navigation of sets of materials by certain common attributes that characterize the materials. A rules engine provides for manipulation of the content displayed to the user based on the query entered by the user. The rules engine includes one or more rules with a trigger and an action. The action of a rule is performed only if the trigger is satisfied. A trigger may be specified in terms of expressions of attribute-value pairs and is evaluated against a given query or navigation state. The actions can include various techniques for content manipulation, such as supplementing content, rendering content in a particular way, and sorting content in a particular way. An action may be specified in terms of navigation states. The rules engine may include a script for processing the rules.

Abstract: The inventive signal incorporates an intelligent diagnosis module inside a light emitting diode (LED) signal, such as an LED traffic signal. The inventive signal can self-extinguish or send a signal through its communication port at the end of its useful life when the LEDs are no longer providing the required light output. Additionally, the inventive signal sends a signal to increase the current as the LEDs degrade to ensure the light output is above a threshold minimum.

Abstract: Systems and methods for enabling a Meta Object Facility (MOF) compliant service for a metadata resource. The systems and methods employ a connector adapted to receive metadata from the metadata resource via a resource-specific application programming interface, and a metamodel repository storing one or more MOF models. The systems and methods further employ a persistence interface between the connector and metamodel repository. The persistence interface is configured to instantiate at least one MOF compliant service for the connector based on one of the MOF models in the metamodel repository.

Abstract: A computerized method, system and program product for generating a data mining model. A user can provide objectives for the model and sample data to train, validate, and test the model. A rules system can automatically select a set of algorithms based on the objectives and/or sample data. A plurality of datasets can also be created from the sample data. Using the datasets, the set of algorithms can be optimized for the particular data on which it is intended to be used. The data mining model can then be generated from the optimized set of algorithms.

Abstract: Delivering one or more alert messages via one or more delivery methods to one or more users who have indicated an interest in receiving the alert messages. A delivery service receives an alert document and a list of receiving users. This list indicates which users desire immediate delivery, which users desire delivery at a scheduled time, a service priority and/or other delivery criteria. Any black out period or other deferral is associated with the deferring users to prevent alert delivery during those times. For scheduled deliveries, the alert message is stored on one of a plurality of storages, based on alert type, user priority, storage loads, and/or other parameters. At the scheduled time, the stored alert message is accessed and marked for immediate delivery. The alert message is delivered as an email, instant message, short message service message, and/or the like. A history is maintained of all alert deliveries.

Abstract: In a search processing system, identifying input authority weights for a plurality of pages, wherein an input authority weight represents a user's weight of a page in terms of interest; distributing a page's input authority weight over one or more pages that are linked in a graph to the page; and using a resulting authority weight for a page in effecting a search result list. The search result list might comprise one or more of reordering search hits and highlighting search hits.

Abstract: A method for determining group membership in a computer system, the method comprising: obtaining an identifier that describes a member of a group, the member of a group having a member hash table that contains group membership information describing to what groups a member belongs; performing a primary search of a plurality of groups to determine if each group contains the member's identifier, each group in the plurality having a group hash table that describes to what other groups the group belongs, caching the results of the primary search in the member hash table, for each group to which the member belongs, performing a secondary search of a plurality of groups to determine what groups contain the group to which the member belongs, and caching the results of the secondary search into the group hash table and merging the results into the member hash table, and reading the member hash table to determine group membership.

Abstract: A semiconductor diode laser that generates light at wavelengths longer than conventional diode lasers. The laser includes a first gain element that generates a first “pump” laser beam having a first optical frequency and a second gain element that generates a second “pump” laser beam having a second optical frequency. The first and second pump beams are mixed in a third section to create a wave of nonlinear polarization oscillating at the difference frequency of the first two beams. Power from this nonlinear polarization wave is coupled by a near-field phase grating to excite an electromagnetic output beam which propagates perpendicular to the laser axis. The frequency of this output beam may be much smaller than either pump beam.

Abstract: A laser diode package (10) according to the present invention is tolerant of short-circuit and open-circuit failures. The laser diode package (10) includes a laser diode bar (12), a forward-biased diode (14), a heat sink (18), and a lid (16) which may have fusible links (86). The laser diode bar (12) and the forward-biased diode (14) are electrically connected in parallel between the heat sink (18) and the lid (16). The emitting region of the laser diode bar (12) is aligned to emit radiation away from the forward-biased diode (14). Several packages can be stacked together to form a laser diode array (42). The forward-biased diode (14) allows current to pass through it when an open-circuit failure has occurred in the corresponding laser diode bar (12), thus preventing an open-circuit failure from completely disabling the array (42).

Specifically, the bounded phase deflection mirror shape or intracavity lens profile is tailored to confine the fundamental mode while rendering the higher order modes unstable. This has application in MEMS/MOEMS optical resonator devices by suppressing the side modes and increasing the side mode suppression ratio (SMSR), as well as improving SMSR tolerance to device external alignment, for example. This also has application to achieving single transverse mode operation in laser resonators, such as in semiconductor vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers (VCSEL).

Abstract: An anti-cycling luminaire control system may detect repeated lamp-off conditions and interrupt power to the lamp and provide an indication of lamp cycling after a predetermined number of lamp-off conditions has been detected. The control system also provides a cool-off period after a lamp-off cycling event is detected during which time restarting of the lamp is inhibited. If the lamp does not restart after multiple restart attempts and cool-off periods, the system determines that a fault condition exists, and may provide a fault alert. The system may provide for shut-off or dimming of the lamp during the night after a portion of the night has passed. This delayed turn-off may be varied according to the length of the night. Starting and dimming the lamp at a zero voltage crossing of the line current can reduce stress on luminaire and control system components and reduce maintenance.

Abstract: A bulb structure of an electrodeless lighting system comprises: a bulb body having an interior space receiving a luminous material emitting light by microwave energy; a bulb support portion integrally extending from one side of the bulb body to communicate with the bulb body, supporting the bulb body, connected to a bulb rotating motor at its one end, and having therein a passage through which the luminous material is injected; and a covering portion formed at an inner communicating portion where the bulb body communicates with the bulb support portion so as to hermetically seal the bulb body, thereby improving light distribution characteristics of the electrodeless lighting system.

Abstract: Disclosed herein are an information processing apparatus and method, a program, and a recording medium, in which a content is recommended to each user on the basis of even the metadata that is assigned with no classification. A metadata analysis block resolves metadata acquired by a metadata acquisition block into components. A dictionary data generation block generates dictionary data in which genre is correlated with keyword and each component. An associated-information database generation block references the dictionary data to assign genre to the metadata which are assigned with no genre, thereby generating an associated-information database of content. An associated-information search block references the dictionary data to identify a genre from a keyword of interest data to search for associated information, thereby recommending content to the user. The present invention is applicable to personal computers or HDD recorders.

Abstract: A system for providing application access to external data uses a data component that translates requests for data into .NET objects. The .NET objects are used to retrieve information from a variety of different data sources that contain data stored in a number of different formats. The data component retrieves the data from the data sources and creates a response .NET object that can be transmitted to a requestor. The data component uses a DST that defines the manner in which data is to be retrieved. To retrieve data from a new data source, it is only necessary to create a new DST. In such a manner, a requestor can retrieve data without the need to translate data into a particular format. Therefore, the .NET object may be available via a web service, thereby allowing access via a variety of different computing tools such as, for example, a personal computer, a telephone, and a PDA.

Abstract: A semiconductor tunable laser (10) and an interferometer (12) coupled to the tunable laser (10) are monolithically fabricated in a semiconductor heterostructure. The laser also comprises a buried ridge stripe waveguide laser. The interferometer (12) has a semiconductor optical amplifier (38) coupled in each arm. A cross-gain semiconductor optical amplifier converter is coupled to the interferometer (12). The semiconductor optical amplifier (38) coupled in each arm is biased so that an optical path length difference between the two arms is in antiphase which results in destructive interference. The output of the tunable laser (10) is coupled to a coupler. A semiconductor optical amplifier (38) is used as a gain controller for the semiconductor optical amplifiers in the interferometer (12) to allow wavelength conversion over a larger range of input signal powers.

Abstract: A method, system, and computer program product for asynchronous unconscious retrieval retrieves and presents information to end users without requiring the end users to explicitly request the information. The invention automatically and asynchronously formulates queries and presents relevant information to end users within the context of existing applications, so as to minimize the effort, overhead, and context shifts associated with conventional conscious retrieval.

Abstract: A system for developing semantic schema for natural language processing has a semantic runtime engine and a semantic authoring tool. The semantic runtime engine is adapted to map a natural language input to a semantic schema and to return the mapped results to an application domain. The semantic authoring tool is adapted to receive user input for defining the semantic schema and to interact with the semantic runtime engine to test the semantic schema against a query.

Abstract: A multilayer semiconductor laser includes a substrate on which is formed a semiconductor multilayer heterostructure divided into a plurality of electrically pumped regions and an elongated optically pumped region. The electrically pumped regions generate and deliver optical pump radiation laterally into the elongated optically pumped region. Output radiation is generated and delivered by the optically pumped region.

A temporary data storage temporarily stores the data received by the message queue while waiting for the data collection system to process the data. A transaction manager receives the data from the message queue and processes the data. A data logger logs the processing transactions of the transaction manager. A data loader receives the data from the transaction manager and prepares the data for storage. A data storage device receives the data from the data loader.
