  • Patent number: 9925314
Abstract: A method of safely removing mesenteric fat from the intra-abdominal region of human patients to ameliorate the metabolic syndrome, or abdominal obesity. The method involves using laparoscopically-guided intra-abdominal tissue aspiration, involving the simultaneously infusion of a tumescent solution into the mesenteric region of treatment, while synchronizing that infusion with the forward or return stroke of the inner cannula of the twin cannula assembly of a bipolar electro-cauterizing twin-cannula tissue aspiration instrument.

  • Patent number: 9913757
Abstract: A dressing for an open wound includes a cover layer dimensioned for positioning relative to a wound bed. The cover layer permits an evacuation of the space around the wound bed such that a sub-atmospheric pressure may be established to stimulate healing and facilitate the removal of fluid from the wound. Multiple performance zones in the cover layer allow the wound dressing to remain in position through repeated cycles of evacuation without placing undue strain on the wound bed. An outer peripheral zone may include a high peal-strength adhesive while an intermediate zone may include a shear resistant adhesive. A central zone may be devoid of any coating to maximize moisture transmission through cover layer.

  • Patent number: 9907889
Abstract: Illustrative embodiments of new and useful systems and methods for reduced-pressure therapy are described. One example embodiment is a manually-actuated pump for applying reduced-pressure therapy. The pump generally comprises a charging chamber, a regulated chamber, and a regulator passage between the charging chamber and the regulated chamber. A valve body controls fluid communication through the regulator passage, and a regulator spring may be engaged with the valve body to bias the valve body against a differential between a pressure in the regulated chamber and an ambient pressure. The regulator passage may have a bore size adapted deflect the valve body to cause an audible indication of a leak.

  • Patent number: 9907938
Abstract: An adhesive wound plaster includes a substrate having an adhesive layer on one major surface thereof on which is located a pad that is adapted to be placed directly over a wound and held on the skin by the substrate's adhesive. The plaster further incorporates a capsule having a dispensing neck at least partially overlaying the pad and where the capsule contains a medicament. When the capsule is squeezed, a rupturable seal on the neck breaks and the medicament is made to coat the pad prior to applying the plaster to the skin such that the pad overlays the wound. A piece of removable release paper covers at least a portion of the adhesive layer prior to use.

  • Patent number: 9907887
Abstract: A manually operable pump for the effective removal of fluids to include blood, blood clots, fluid, and air from a body cavity of a subject is provided. The manually operable pump is adapted to be connect to a range of fluid conduits and is equipped with one-way valves that effectively permit flow of fluid through the pump in only one direction. The sensitivity of the one-way valves is such that when properly positioned, fluid can flow through the valves and out of the pump without manual compression of the pump and with the aid of gravity power alone.

  • Patent number: 9889240
Abstract: An apparatus and method for managing reduced pressure at a tissue site are disclosed. The apparatus comprises a pump for supplying reduced pressure to the tissue site, a motor coupled to the pump to propel the pump, and a drive system electrically coupled to the motor that includes a power source that provides a source of direct current power to the motor during an operational period at a substantially constant current and of sufficient magnitude to supply a targeted reduced pressure during the operational period. The drive system also includes a controller that monitors the pump's loading on the motor by measuring the voltage across the motor to determine whether the motor voltage remains within a predetermined operational range of voltages necessary for maintaining the reduced pressure supplied by the pump proximate to the targeted reduced pressure without directly measuring the reduced pressure using a pressure sensor.
