  • Patent number: 4846417
Abstract: To lift the leading end of a paper web upwardly into contact with the underside of a perforated support roll which draws the web by suction thereagainst, a bar, rod or wire forming an entrainer is lifted by a pair of strands controlled by a windlass to engage the entrainer in a crease at the leading end of the web, the entrainer passing over a pressing roller which can be displaced toward the support roller and is retractable therefrom.

  • Patent number: 4842207
Abstract: A cable reeling system which provides means to control the tension applied to a cable during rereeling including a reel having an axle supported by members mounted upon a first skid which also supports a drive motor for such a reel. The first skid is mounted upon a second, longer, skid to which is coupled by 4 links so as to aligned the skids adjacent their first ends. A tension gauge is mounted on second skids adjacent to its second end and coupled to the first skid at its second end to measure the actual tension between first and second skid which is related to the tension applied to the cable by the reeling system.

  • Patent number: 4824039
Abstract: A device for lifting the leading end of a paper web to the underside of a support drum on which rolls can be formed from the paper web comprises a lifting device which has a suction box pivotal thereon about an axis parallel to the drum axis, so that as the suction box passes between the blades of a longitudinal slitter, it can assume a generally vertical orientation. The suction surface is elastically deformable against the underside of the drum.

  • Patent number: 4807824
Abstract: This invention provides an improved web transfer mechanism in a paper roll towel dispenser of the type having a primary roll and a reserve roll of paper toweling. The transfer mechanism comprises a cradle for supporting the primary roll that is counterbalanced by an element for tucking the leading end of the reserve roll into the nip between feed rollers. As the primary roll becomes depleted, the counterbalancing force of the roll decreases, causing the tucking element to gradually approach the leading end of the reserve roll until the element finally engages the end and introduces it into the nip. In a preferred embodiment, the device includes a damper mechanism to prevent premature introduction of the leading end caused by the tendency of the primary roll to rise above the cradle by a sudden pull on the toweling.
